We did the same thing on our 18' but used the wide-mouth version, its a must on any pool to have a proper skimmer there is no comparison with that weird little intex thing,

I know! Every video shows how to attach the slimmer to the wall but none show the plumbing.

Anyone found a slimmer to pump review? Trying to figure out to hook the skimmer, sand pump together and use the colemannpump that came with the pool for the water fall

What is the maximum water level for proper use of this skimmer? I like my pool a bit more filled.

You dont need an adapter with an intex pump. It comes with and extension that you can slide the 1.5" hose onto and clamp it. At least with my pump. I would recommend getting the shutoff valve too. Its very hard to clean the pump skimmer without it

Can you do this with out cutting the rubber gasket or will the stress from taking it back apart rip the pool siding?

Do you have a video on the additional spicket you have fitted. I'm looking at getting the same pool and thinking of running 2 pumps, One large sand filter pump for filtering and the other to run through a solor heating setup on top of my shed roof all to be hard plumbed in. Have found all your videos relating to your pool very helpful and informative, also your tiki table V2 looks awesome and I'm going to have to adapt your idea. Do you have any suggestions or advise you can pass on. Keep up the good work and thank you. Regards AJ

Just purchase a large sand filter pump, and the Intex skimmer will pull just as much. The cartridge pumps do OK, but they are the lowest end pump that Intex sells with the pool package.

Hello, I have been following your channel and recently installed a coleman 22 x 52 pool. I purchased the 16" sand filter that you also recommended. I have a question regarding the hayward skimmer. I see that the skimmer will route directly to the sand filter, but before I install it, I want to know what I do with the (2) left over inlet hoses labeled "B" on the pool.? Do we remove the hoses and plug them with the (2) black plugs that came with the pool, or do we leave them alone and cap off the end where they came together and went into the filter? Or do you have a better solution. Thanks for your videos, they are very helpful.

Does the water level have to be especially low for skimmer to work. A estimated it was about a full 12in. From the top. Good video btw.

Great job on the video. I was wondering, I live in Canada , lots of snow . Do I have to remove this skimmer at the end of the season? Also if I do how hard will it be to realign it to reinstall. I have a 16’ x 32‘ x 52“ summer waves rectangular pool. Can I leave it up all winter or do I have to take it down. Can I simply lower the water down to about 2 feet and leave it erected over the winter.

I always take mine down for several reasons. The biggest reason is how tough it'll be to manage the water without movement for months. Itll become stagnant and a nightmare to get rid of. Yes, I remove the skimmer every year. Its pretty easy to do. I think I spent more time worrying about how to install than actually installing. I hope this helps. One more thing, I did move to a wide mouth skimmer this year. You might consider looking at it.

Love your videos! Had a question - we just bought a similar setup Bestway Vista 16 foot round pool and upgraded to the Intex 3000 Sand Filter with Salt Water Add-on as well. We also purchased the Hayward skimmer after seeing your review - my question as being new to pools is there a right and wrong place to install this skimmer? To the right of the B inlets we don't have adequate room so looking for alternative places to install this and if that matters. Many thanks!

You can put it wherever you like. You just need enough hose.

@@marcoarrazattee7389 there's a couple of ways, but the easiest is to just run to the hardware store and buy a PVC connector and cap.

Does it put more pressure on the filter since there in only one inlet? Good video by the way

Not at all. As a matter of fact, when using the correct fitting, it is easier on the pump. The pump calls for an inch and a half. That is what you should modify to. Good question -

Pondiver ok cool. yea when I had the intex skimmer it was connected thru one of the 1.25 “ inlet. And I noticed it was putting a little of more pressure on the filter. Plus the kids would tip it over. But this Hayward skimmer looks pretty good

Pondiver hey I just installed this skimmer but for some reason it’s leaking where the adapter is not a lot maybe like 5-10 small drops a minute. Got any tips?

Love it, going to order this when we get a new pool next month. If you stick a tape measure from the bottom of pool what height is the water at now?

I kept the water at the same height. I experimented with several different water levels, but I found that the original height works best. Good question!

Just not sure what the level is. Want to measure the height and See if it would be too high for my son. Think we want the same pool you have.

Hey there thank you for the video. I need some help as I'm getting ready to install the same thing on my Coleman pool. A few questions I have is how far apart should the skimmer and the return be? What do I do with the other open holes that use to be the old suction???

Should be at least 3 feet apart and use the bull nose to close off whichever suction you are not using👍

@@Pondiver You can also do as we did and put a tee between the skimmer and the other inlet and have a valve on the other one so it can be used as either suction relief or a vacuum port.

Do do you have 2 pumps then.. the original pump for the 2 inlets and then the sand filter for the skimmer? couldn't tell in the video how you have it set up.

Hi Matt. So yes, I have the original pump in which I use for the fountain and the big pump for pool filtration. Im posting better explanation this week. I apologize for the confusion.

I measured down one inch from the top of the liner and that is where the top of the skimmer should be.

I was going to get this skimmer but in all the setups I've seen online, the pool water level has to go down for it to work and I don't want to lose any of my pool's depth. Will it work if water is filled to the point where the white meets the brown on the liner?

Shoot.. I was hoping you’d show your connection to the pump. Did you block off the original two ports or do you still have those running in tandem?

Not in tandem. I still use them for the Intex LED fountain that we have, so I didn't have to block them off.

If my water level is closer to the top of the skimmer opening, will the skimmer not perform as well? Basically, I don't want to lower the water level to the mid point of the skimmer opening if it is not necessary. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Yes, it will still perform. It only needs to be about an inch less than the top of the skimmer. The pump suction will pull the heavy particles down into the basket.

I got one of these and I did it the way other people said where you put the butterfly gasket between the inside and outside of the pool liner (did not cut it) then I put the screws through but I can’t seem to manage getting the plate onto the actual skimmer with the screws it’s very cumbersome do you have any suggestions - You think it would help if I actually did cut it in half would it make it easier to install the plate onto the actual skimmer?

I think I ended up cutting in half after a few attempts and that made the difference.

I'm sure you already have this installed, But for all the others, Unless you drain the water down below skimmer level, you Have to cut the gasket in two pieces, Otherwise there is no way to get it on both sides. This gasket is meant for a Metal walled pool and to be installed around the cutout before the water is up to that level

Great vid. Couple questions. When you pack away your pool for winter do you think you can take this off with no problems? Also, what is your water level at now you have this in? Is it around 40" I just cant decide between the Intex 18 x52 or the 20x48 , but I know I want to but this skimmer on as it looks like it really works. (On your next vid as you walk around can you show how the adapter kits goes on. Sure its straight forward but I bet this is new to many like me)

Yes, you can back the screws out with no issues. The water level is at its normal height. You dont need to adjust the volume of water. With one single port of suction, the water tension is pretty impressive.

no. The skimmer should be near the top of the pool. The water should be near the top of the skimmer

I dont think you have to and the reason is because the one port of suction really creates tension all the way across the pool. Its totally up to you. I just got the one that would work best with my pump suction and pool size.

Well, you can, but you still would be reducing your suction. One port of suction as opposed to two will greatly increase the skimmer's productivity.

I also have the 1600 gpm salt and sand system. I just really didn’t want to cut the liner of my new pool. Had the intex ultra for 5 years. Only had the one port so was looking at options for the dual port system. Since I have my original skimmer figure adding second would be best options. I went with the prism frame this time around. Considered the Coleman but the windows over time concerned me. How have yours held up? 2nd season right?

@@ltdlawnservice4586 They have held up. I uploaded a video last year of me just predictively sealing them. They weren't leaking, but I had seen where several people said that their's had. I have not had the issue to date. I totally understand not wanting to cut the liner. I was sweating the ENTIRE time!!!

Real Life Reviews I am uploading a video on my channel of my pump. Why is it so loud?! It is brand new.... I made sure all the air was out of it etc. thoughts? Is this pump usually this loud?

@@LifeHacksbyStacy so I checked out your video and yes that is super loud. Its just as loud as mine. Your comments are turned off, so I responded here. Since it's a paper cartridge, it's going to be louder than sand, but even still, its ridiculous.
