I could listen to speaking all day long. I loved to the bride's mother. When she speaks, it sounds like music. There is something about the Irish that feels like home to me, as if it swirls around inside my heart and soul and is a part of me, and I suppose that's true. I live in Southwest Virginia, USA, in the mountains. It was to these mountains that the Scots and Irish settled 150-200 years ago, and these are my ancestors. When I listen to the words and phrases of these people in the UK, but especially the Irish, they are the words of my people here. May people laugh at our language and consider it backwards, but the truth is that we have maintained an ancient language, and, locked away here in these mountains, we continue to use the language, and the music and dance, of the Irish who settled these mountains. We have clogging, which is very similar to the traditional Irish dance, and our music is almost identical to the traditional music found in Ireland. My, how I've gotten carried away in my thoughts! This is what listening to the Irish does to me. They are my people, and they feel like home tome.
