I’m 17 and I’ve wanted to be a pharmacist since I was about 12. I feel like it’s PERFECT for me. I’ve always wanted a big family so I wanted a career where I didn’t have to work many days and still make a good amount of money and I LOVE SCIENCE 😂❤️

UpJoy Happy i was interested in being a doctor, but i knew i did not want to be married to my work and would eventually like to have a family one day. i chose pharmacy for the exact same reason as you! i feel like it’s the best of both worlds!!

Karin Mcmillon i want the same but the negative comments(its saturated,its shit,has no scope) are scaring me I’m a week into my pharm school,idk what imma do with my life Is it really that saturated? Like everywhere in the world

Pearl _ Honestly it’s not saturated everywhere. You don’t have to work in retail, you have other options like hospitals. I was contemplating the same as you, but I dug further and that’s what I learnt. Good luck!

I’m a senior in high school next year and was wondering whether or not I should attend a school like University of Texas at Austin for college and then the pharmacy school part or just attend a different school then apply after I graduate college?

P1 here. I got my undergraduate in biochemistry and it’s help so much thus far. I definitely don’t regret those 4 years. I honestly think people say market saturation to scare future pharmacists. But you have to think about the multiple specialities that are unique to each person across the states. lol. I don’t think people really understand what we have to go through to get this degree. Like we have quizzes, exams, presentations, simulations all within the same week and friends or family will be like why haven’t we talked in so long. Mind you in the fall October and spring April are the possible worst months for any graduate student I promise you. Anyone can definitely do pharmacy school if they’re willing to put forth the effort. But it makes it so much more easy if you are interested and love what you’re doing.

Only until recently has this become a path I’ve wanted to take, I’m 17 and my entire life I’ve been stuck but all Ive known since I was young about my career path is that in the future (when I retire) I’ve always wanted to start my own natural supplement company, pharmacy has been something extremely intriguing to me because of this. I can gain experience to better help my future company, help people until then and become a master in my field, make enough money to be comfortable and most of all, enjoy my job!! It’s perfect! The only thing that’s deterring me at ALL is the fact that math has never been my strong suit, my mind is a very creative and action based one, math has always just been insanely complicated for me, but if this is a path I choose I’ll have to learn!! Thank you for this video!

I am thinking of going into Industry Pharmacy; Compounding Pharmacy. I'm tired of retail as a technician lol. I've been bombarding the Pharmacists at my job with loads of questions about PHC cos I'm graduating with a B.S in Biology next year, and I think they're getting a little annoyed with me 😆 [even though they said they're not], so I decided to ask RU-vid today. Thank you for this. I have always felt a strong attraction towards the medical field but never really knew what area of the field I wanted to pursue. As I started to get older and think about my future more I discovered the field of Pharmacy and immediately grew a strong interest and attraction towards it. Lately, though, I have been feeling discouraged as I am taking Advanced Placement Chemistry in junior year and honestly do not like it. Now that being said, I still truly think I will like Pharmacy so I was wondering if there are any tips that you would give me to see if I truly like the career :) Thank you so much for this informational video, I will definitely be tuning in for more!

Hi! I would recommend speaking to someone who has your dream career. Hearing their journey and learning about their day to day will give you more insight into the career and if it's really for you. Don't let one semester of school deter you from your dream career:) Hope this helps.

Been graduated from pharmacy school for over 3 years now and the job saturation is no joke! What you mentioned in the video is definitely true- wish I had resources like these when researching professions to enter before applying to colleges- best of luck through pharmacy school!

From my understanding, clinical pharmacy may not be as saturated as community or retail pharmacy, but most clinical pharmacists complete a residency programs that delays full earning potential. Just some things to think about.

I have applied for PharmD and the schools are requesting for some prerequisites they didn't find on my transcripts, even though I did most of them in my undergrad and Ms under different course titles. Do you have a recommendation on where I can quickly take Human Anatomy, Calculus and Microbiology prerequisites this summer? I am currently not in the States. Thanks

I am halfway through my undergraduate program and had been set on going to law school for my parents. but I've always had an unavoidable pull towards the medical field. i was researching about different jobs in the medical field and pharmacy just piqued my interest. Hello, great video. I’m honestly really excited because I wanna be a pharmacist and it’s litteraly the perfect career for me since I live science and chemistry. But I have one question, do you need to be really good at math to be a pharmacist because I struggle a little with math. But I am willing to get better to become a pharmacist. Answer when you can!

Great communicator. All true points. Con #6 - you don’t get to apply all that knowledge and learning especially in retail. Con #7- post graduation retail is physically and mentally stressful Con #8 - since there is market saturation the pay, your worth and your job is in jeopardy IMO. Very beautiful young lady. Bottom line- Don’t Do It!

I love human anatomy/physio and learning about diseases and wanted to know if that was a part of it. Thank you! :)

You're welcome! I have a video coming soon of my year in pharmacy recap that will list classes I took my second year. Honestly, curriculum varies based on the school you're interested in but most pharmacy schools focus on pharmacology, pharmacotherapy, kinetics and variations of other courses.

@@lilovs9952 well, TO HIM schooling was easy. (I looked at his transcripts because I found it to be unbelievable and indeed he got all As and a few Bs in pharmacy school.) NOW, that doesn’t mean for others it will be easy. I’m just saying what he said. I’m in an EdD program. I wouldn’t dare join a pharmacy program. Science is not my thing, and it’s uninteresting to me. And I agree with you, being a scientist is hard work. But then again, to some being a scientist is easy. Everyone is different.

Pharmacy was a 5 year degree in 1980 when I matriculated after high school. It's now a 6 year degree and you leave with a PharmD. They don't require a Bachelor's degree in hand to pursue a pharmacy career. I assume that if you want to attend pharmacy school after graduating with a BA/BSci degree that you would need to show that you completed for credit earlier science coursework. If not, you can get in and start from the beginning of the pharmacy coursework.

Just finished 3rd year today (5 years in total in my country). I never felt as much pressure 💔 Maybe the reason is I didn’t choose pharmacy i kinda get forced. I hope i like it eventually, I don’t want to spend my life hating the my field. btw Thank you for the great video ♥️♥️

I was forced into it too(parents). I was miserable! I stayed in it for 10 years then pursued my passion which is law. Best decision ever!! Pharmacy is a good first degree, if you don’t like it, you have many other options from there. Best of luck to you.

Your vid was def helpful! Thank you! One thing thst confuses me is how people even LIVE while going to school so long!? This is our 20s, we won't be this young again. Do you barely scrape by? Do you have to work part time? Roommates? I'm terrified of struggling tbh.

You're welcome. In reality, I work some weekends at a pharmacy to make extra money. Financially, loans, grants and scholarships help pay for both school and my living expenses. I kind of think about it as my return on investment. I'm investing in my education to make more money in the long run.

Hi Jasmine! I am looking to apply to pharmacy school this year in November. I am taking my second round of ochem for ochem 2 this fall. I am terrible at chemistry. I struggle soooooo much. I love science and physiology, but chemistry just doesn’t click with me. I am able to do it but it takes me 10x longer than other students to understand. Every time I tell anyone I want to become a pharmacist. They all assume I love chemistry. As a pharmacy student would you say that someone who isn’t good at chemistry even try to become a pharmacist? Thank you in advance. :)

Hi! I'm actually not amazing at chemistry either. In my pharmacy program, there was a good amount of chemistry my first semester, but beyond that it's been more pharmacotherapy. I would recommend to look at the pharmacy program you may be interested in and examine their curriculum to see how much chemistry is required. Best of luck :)

Having purpose and WHYs are very very important. If you are truly passionate about something or have high interest in learning it, those videos doesn't matter. There's no course in this world where it applies to everybody's likings. When you know your WHys, hard or easy doesn't matter but instead "How?". "How can I excel at this course?" "How can I use my passion, profession to contribute to the society?" Don't mind what other people said, listen to your heart and mind, remember what drove you to your decision, write it down and look back on them when you start doubting yourself (this really really helps me, instead of 'don't videos' I watch videos on why I should be choosing pharmacy to assure myself). Don't worry about job opportunity or money, if you're truly passionate about something keep working on being the best at it! Effort never betrays, opportunities will come through!! Hope things will turn out amazing for you, you got this bubble

I also have a biology degree (Bachelor) and now I'm two months from getting the Master's degree in molecular biology. But now I have applied to a pharmacy programme, which I will start with directly after graduating from the Master's in molecular biology. It's daunting and I feel exhausted, but knowing that others have made almost the same journey makes me feel better about it.

@@_illvillain_2950 Wish you best of luck with graduation! Yeah, it is a hard decision to complete masters and then spend 5 more years in pharmacy. I would say look into more videos and search in the internet to see what other people say. The genereal consensus seem to be that retail is not worth spending 5 more years on, because it's quite boring and underpaid. However, pharmacist can work with many different stuff, some in the clinincs and other in the industry (for example with drug development). I'm mostly interested in working in the industry, because that's where you get to use your full potential as a pharmacist and it's the best paid position. On the other hand, I'm not going to lie, if it was possible for me I would much rather pursue a medical career.

Would biochemistry be a good preparatory major for a career in pharmacy? I love chemistry and I definitely want to do something involving that and health, so I think this would be a suitable option!

Of course! Just make sure you take the appropriate prerequisite courses required by the university you want to attend.

I graduated from one of the most recognized local university in my country. I graduated in 2015. My CGPA is very low 2.41. After completing my training as provisionally registered pharmacist, I served my compulsory service for two years. Then, I am out of job. I don't really like the idea of working in community setting. I would like to work again in hospital setting. It's been 5 years I am without a job (real job). In the meantime I studied programming. But I don't know.

I have applied for PharmD and the schools are requesting for some prerequisites they didn't find on my transcripts, even though I did most of them in my undergrad and Ms under different course titles. Do you have a recommendation on where I can quickly take Human Anatomy, Calculus and Microbiology prerequisites this summer? I am currently not in the States. Thanks

im doing undergrad now. im so so excited. its going to be so stressful and very hard work but it seems that it’s going to be worth it for me in the end! we have to do undergrad before getting into a pharmacy program. i also question which pharmacists you speak of when you said they dispense the meds. here, in retail we the technicians dispense and do everything else. all the pharmacists do is counsel and verify.

Chemistry is an aspect of pharmacy, so chemistry classes are required to get accepted. Physics and calculus are also required by most pharmacy schools in the US

So i originally wanted to major in marine biology but I found that it might not work for me. Being a pharmacist honestly is starting to intrest me because the study of medicine and medical conditons. I just don’t think being a doctor would be my best choice because I can be an emotional person and don’t think I could put myself under the pressure. So having the background of the condition but not having to communicate with the patient as much i feel would be a better option but I really can’t decide. I want to help people but I don’t think I could emotionally

You know yourself best! It may be helpful to create a pros and cons list to determine your favorite and least favorite parts of marine biology and pharmacy. That may help with your decision. Best of luck :)

lmao @ earning potential. New grad pharmacists are being offered 32 hours max by corporate chains at $40/hr. They pay more at CVS but that also means 14 hour shifts, no lunch break, no bathroom break, and 500 rx per day with 1 tech at most.

Starting salary is so much more less than it was 20 years ago when I graduated. The field is saturated due to increased supply of pharmacists. But if you’re passionate about it, don’t let it stop you.

Like 3 months ago I got accepted in college to be chemistry pharmacist and I want to work in industrial Pharmacy because I love being in laboratories and I want to be part of the health world but I didn't want to be a doctor (besides because in country doctor's salary are really bad) I was scared because I don't want to just work in a drug store or have economic problems, but it's multifaceting and I'm sure I want to work in a laboratory and it's sad that this career don't have the value or respecte due to, people think that pharmacist only sell drugs and no more but investigating you realize it's a lot of sides, Also I think every career it's hard and saturated (more than others, like in my country there're too many doctors, lawyers, architects or engineers) it's more how you develop your knowledge. I'm 16 I love biology and I like chemistry but my biggest fear is that I like chemistry but I'm not that good so I'm afraid of not doing right (also my parents are going to pay a really expensive college so I'm afraid of disappoint them) but thank you for the video and sorry if I had an orthography mistake, my native language it's not English 😂. I'd appreciate if you answer, idk anything 😂 thank for the video
