Real Steel Knives is the first Chinese knife company that I found which had knives of quality outside of the budget market. My first knife from them was the H6-S1 which I liked so much that when I saw a small online store in the USA had the titanium S571 Pro for about half the price that all the other stores had I jumped at it. Turns out their price was misprinted on the website, but they honoured it and sent me the knife. I loved that knife so much that I became a lifelong Real Steel fan. So, I try to get every Real Steel knife that I can afford to get while still keeping a variety on CCE
I can confirm that Real Steel has their 14C28N Sandvik steel at a Rockwell hardness of 59-60. Just like the vast majority of knife makers do for that steel.
I have reviewed some Bushcraft fixed blades from Real Steel but today is the POINTMAN which is a more jack-of-all-trades type of a knife. Often this type of knife falls flat but not this time. It is a good knife and it certainly can perform a wide array of tasks. It is well made and has good materials that it is made from. Here are some purchase links:
Direct from Real Steel Knives (ship worldwide): www.realsteelkn...
Amazon.COM (for Americans): amzn.to/2zIWPm1
Blades Canada: www.warriorsan...
Twisted Assisted in the UK: www.twistedass... - they ship to many countries

I can confirm that Real Steel brings their 14C28N stainless to a Rockwell hardness of 59-60 which is very much the industry standard.

Nice knife, I'd buy it for the price. Good steel. Great thorough review. Thanks. Tony

Thanks for the mention Canadian Cutting Edge 😀 Brilliant review and the RS Pointman along with the bushcraft folder are 2 of our favourites. Regards Twisted Assisted

COOL. I am getting more and more viewers from the UK so I try to post stuff that way when I can. This knife is not sold in very many places so you guys got the mention because you are smart enough to carry it.

Just a bit outside. Very subtle, not too flashy. If they are make a smaller version I could carry that very unnoticed.
@CanadianCuttingEdge

One of the main things I like about this knife is that it is simple and not a flashy design. I like to have a simple basic knife sometimes and this is that. A smaller knife that has some similarities that I like is the Hornet F815 by Ruike ( I have a review of one with an orange handle but it comes in black too.

I'm quite sure I would like any of the Real Steel knives as they are made at the Sanrenmu factory, as is Ruike knives. In the Ruike knives I have 2 p801, 1 p108, and 2 p105-Q....Since the first Sanrenmu 710, I have found nothing out of that factory that I did not like the quality construction and fit and finish. They just make high quality for every budget.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 7 лет назад
I totally agree. I have mentioned on some of my Real Steel and Ruike videos that they are made at Sanrenmu, but I feel weird saying it on all the reviews. Sanrenmu even makes Spyderco's "Made in China" knives like the Tenacious. I bet there are a lot more quality knives made by Sanrenmu than we know. They are, quite simply, THE BEST budget knife company on the planet - in my opinion.
@sarge1231
@sarge1231 7 лет назад
Jake I agree, but would go a little further....when someone says they are the best budget knife company, it kind of implies that they are good knives for the money. In my opinion, Sanrenmu knives are just good knives period, and would be good even if they were considerably more expensive. The sanrenmu land 910 series of knives went so far as to think of the little things. The pivot pin for instance, has a flat side that fits in the scales, so it can not spin, and the pivot pin has a thin rubber washer to keep it from backing out, and I've found it works as well as locktite. That is just 1 example of how they thought of the little things, that knives 10x the price did not bother with. Sometimes when I dis-assemble a 200 dollar knife and the pivot pin is not captured, and only has torx on the screw side with the threads locktited, and I turn the pivot screw and the pin spins, with no easy means to hold it, it's frustrating. I think...Sanrenmu can make their knife for under 20 dollars. with a captured pin and rubber washer under the pivot screw, and major manufacturers can't do the same for 200...why??? What I'm saying is it is just great knives...even if they are budget knives. It is one of the few things I've seen where you actually get more than you pay for.

That is a valid way to approach the topic. I have no problem with that. I approach it a bit differently. I keep both the cost and the base quality in the evaluation when I decide what to call the company. We have two different ways to come to our conclusions about what we would say about the company. Both are valid I think.

I carried mine for most of the time I was camping and I sure whittled a LOT of wood while hanging around the campsite, and then at home in the backyard.

As an update, still loving the pointman and has become a daily carry for me. Like it enough to buy a few more. Will be replacing the belt loop with a low profile loop I will make myself with kydex, the stock one still works fine, just want a lower profile.

Hi Jake, your detailed review on this wonderfull knife finally won me over. First I was doubting on buying on, but I have to say: no regrets! Fits great in the hand, great atention to detail, and hairpopping sharp out of the box. Also bought myself one of those blue and satin H9 Takin knives you also dit a nice review on. Thanks, and warm greetings from the Netherlands :-D

Thanks so much for the compliments. I try hard to give a lot of clear information to help people make up their minds on if they want a knife or not. I am just as happy if a viewer decides against a knife as I am if they choose to buy one - as long as my video helped them make an informed decision.

Hi Jake! 10 or so years back, I used to use this sort of blades in my line of work, Gryphons, Tops Knives that sort of things. Thats a shame I dont need one now because I would buy it otherwise. The steel is more than adequate and the features of the knife are just near-perfect for my taste. I wouldn't file the pillars myself: or I'd remove the clip entirely and use paracord, or I'd carry horizontally on the back and the gap between the back and the handle makes for an easier grab. Nice blade, nice review, forwarded it to a guy I used to work with!
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 7 лет назад
I did end up taking down the space between the clip and the sheath and I do like how it carries a fair bit better now, both in a horizontal or traditional vertical carry method. BUT, we each have our own tastes, ain't nuthin wrong with that. It's easy to take the space down, but it would be harder to make the space bigger so the way they sell it is good for both myself and the way you prefer it - the adjustment was quick and easy to do.
@pichnoufblues
@pichnoufblues 7 лет назад
I fully agree on this; everybody had their own preferences and habits, and this is very interesting to see how others do things their way. Your review has the merit to show that it's possible to adjust the sheath. And we clearly see how it's done. Very good job on this one!

Fixed blade version of the H6?? Lol!! Blade shape, blade length, and handle shape are all different. How is that a fixed blade version of the H6?? It isn't.

A Beutiful dog!. I like animals, specially cats and dogs. The knife is well, i like, but for the price sure that i choose other, begining for a cudeman, nieto, muela or cold steel. Regards!.

Thanks, I love my dog. The whole point of the video is to help you decide, and I am just as happy if you decide against as I am when you decide for the knife. I am not in sales, I am doing information.

Canadian Cutting Edge I am not saying that it is a bad knife, only than, in my particular preferences, i would.choose another knife for the price, more than 70€ true? it is enough for choosing in a lot of models from differents brands. The dog is beautiful, it remember a bit to a fox or so. Nice dog. A dog alway love you, for that it is the best friend of man.

I don't really see any similarities at all. Idk why they would call this the fixed blade version.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 7 лет назад
My guess is that your definition of similarity is different than theirs. I can see why they would say it but I don't understand the need for saying it, I doubt it would drive any sales.

Sweet knife, great steel, nice sheath. I would like it with a longer blade though for the price
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 7 лет назад
I would like an additional knife like this with a longer blade. I do find it odd that fixed blade knives are not significantly less expensive than folders. Afterall they are much easier to make, they require significantly less labour costs because there are no moving parts...

I wish they would have stuck with the D2 they were using on the Bushcrafter2, I know its chippy on scandi grinds but it holds an awesome edge. The Sandvic14c28N is still awesome stuff but doesn't get as hair popping sharp as the D2.

I don't understand why fixed blades are not a lot less expensive than folders. they must save a lot of money on labour costs and some on parts...

Canadian Cutting Edge agreed but they are usually large and thus contain more steel and handle material with a corresponding larger sheath

I'm an avid collector. There are a bevy of quality knives manufactured right here in The USA. Why would I take a trip to Chinamart, and patronize a their Chinese products when both hate our guts, offering predominately inferior products, and utilizes child slave labor for production. What another chooses to do is clearly their business, but all casuistry aside, I choose American, or other freedom loving American supporting businesses for my pleasure.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 6 лет назад
You wouldn't make that trip if you are happy with what you are getting right now. I buy a good amount of American knives myself, and I am not even American. My guess is that the vast majority of Chinese people are freedom loving too, but unfortunately they are not free to express it.

Sadly, this is RealSteels most boring/dull design yet.😪
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 7 лет назад
I think they designed it just for function and not for aesthetic reasons. Even then, I am often attracted to simplicity and I guess they are counting on more guys who think like that. One other plus is that it is a knife that is less likely to walk away in somebody else's backpack if I accidentally leave it somewhere.
@MrFomhor
@MrFomhor 7 лет назад
Canadian Cutting Edge It's the handle scales that bother me somehow. They make the knife look cheap. If RealSteel'd gone for more rounded scales or maybe another material, like wood...🤔
