RWD is the best when it's come to repair and drifting. FWD is the best when it's come to economy. AWD is the best when it comes to agility stability and control

Even as an FWD enthusiast, I am not afraid to say this video is totally bullshit, even if it was a legitimate upload from the original owners. I will be first to admit that the big Achilles heel of a FWD format is traction when accelerating from a stand still. If the demonstration is unable to accurately represent the better launch capabilities of a RWD format over FWD, why should I believe anything else this demonstration is meant to represent. Also, there is a massive difference between traction and grip. 2WD has less traction than AWD, yes, but if all things between these vehicles really are equal, including power, weight, and weight distribution, then total grip will be equal between all parties, regardless of powertrain. Traction is a car's ability to effectively and efficiently put power down to the road, basically its ability to accelerate. Grip is the tire's ability to...well, grip the road. Traction accounts for acceleration, but grip accounts for it all, be it acceleration, braking, or cornering. All cars have all-wheel-grip, and in fact, a FWD car will often have _better_ grip than AWD, since it is a much lighter and more compact and simple setup, meaning less mass to move around. Same for RWD. My point is, all drivetrain styles have their purposes, and it is true, AWD has many strengths, it also comes with drawbacks, ones I am not really worth taking, so I prefer a lighter, more nimble FWD format.
There's a popular myth the drivetrain gives you grip. My friend thought the same untill he understeered a Quatrro into the ditch. It's the tyres that give you grip no matter the drivetrain.
FWD: Predictable, typically a more fuel-efficient platform, better up hills than rwd until rwd gets more than 8.5hp/lb, strong grip early, mid, and exit of a corner. Too much power makes car unable to accelerate from constant wheel spin w/out crazy good tyres (good bye wallet). Can't accelerate reliably through turns, and usually has worse overall speed in terms of acceleration/topspeed until vtec use in the midrange once grip is reliable w/ power. Can't use slip angle. Wants to, but can't. Weak. AWD: #1 Launch. #1 Stability. #1 Offroad. 100% #1 Handler of MO POWUH BABEH. However, handling on asphalt is iffy, weight must be balanced well with suspension, and the f/r balance of diff, and diff locks respectively, that really decides most of how well you can power through a hard curve. I'd say in terms of accelerating while turning, awd is better than fwd worse than rwd, however awd is more advantaged in that their trail braking can push the limits of entry points and can take lower speed sections much more lively and quickly than the others and a LOT more confidence. Also; can use slip angle, fwd can't kek. Bretty stronk, basically the best drivetrain. RWD: Hardest to drive at the limit. Faster than fwd downhill, and #1 defender of positions as long as theres a hairpin or tight curve. #1 KING of slip angle, undoubtedly. Unpredictable ASF. Drift Lord. Can handle MO POWAH BABEH w/ accompanying tyres. Literally competes with awd as their pros and cons balance out relatively well. despite being left at the line on the jump, the rwd usually turns out faster in mid-high speed technical sections than awd due to the ability to control power and angle through a turn imo more precisely which sounds weird but not stressing front tyres w/ accel and instead just using them for grip is much strong. AWD/4WD platforms begin to translate from oversteer to understeer if too much power is added and all 4 drive wheels end up spinning. TL:DR Read above lazybones.
There's no "twice the grip", especially in corners. Good RWD or FWD can be faster than AWD on track. Main factor of the grip is weight distribution and how you distribute it taking corners (braking, accelerating, steering wheel movement) AWD doesn't instantly give you 2x grip. In some circumstances RWD and FWD might have more grip than AWD.
Sorry but rwd had more grip in launch than fwd because of weight transfer, when you put your foot down on fwd, the nose of the car goes high so you lose grip in rwd the weight goes to the rear
But only when you accelerate hard, when you gently accelarate like on a slippy road FWD is better because the weight transfer doesnt compensate the weight enough.
This video is from Subaru, the guy just downloaded it and uploaded without permission and he's done a shut job of it because there's no sound making it boring as hell. Also rear wheel drive doesn't accaelerate slower than front wheel drive
@@tsunamiguay8956 Nope, launch grip will always better in RWD than FWD granted that you have a smooth road, bonus point if it's flat. FWD wins in snow and rain because understeer is easier to control then oversteer and in bad conditions both systems are prone to losing grip a lot more.

Wtf they telling us, fwd has less grip than rwd, a car with 143hp for example a bmw 318i e46 has rwd and has maximum grip while accelerating on a normal street. A celica t23 has also 143hp but fwd and it has less grip cause it pulls the car instead of pushing it
70s rwd rally Ford mustang could wheely on gravel. The physics of weight transfer is often overlooked by fwd fans. Pulling the car with front wheels gives zero weight transfer advantage. It's equal to the efficiency of rear wheel brakes. Front wheel brakes have much higher efficiency.
@@jeffsafawi7947 your car is not without weight on the rear wheels. A rwd or awd cars are ofte close to 50/50 weight distribusjon because it has more driveshafts in the rear and gearbox far behind the front wheels. The rear suspension is also beefier on rwd and awd cars. When climbing a hill the weight of the car is moved backwards. Fwd cars has more grip when going in reverse. To take proper hillclimb advantage of a awd or rwd car you just need to add a little weight in the rear.
Many AWD with rear wheel biais behave like RWD very often, like when power is required such as moving from a green light, passing, accelerating. Think of BMW or Mercedes
Its a bit inaccurate cause rwd actually have better grip for starts then fwd, rwd pushes the Wright while fwd pulls it and as we all know it pushing is easier then pulling
What? Front wheel drive launches quicker than rear? Don’t believe that. AWD launches quickest followed by rear then front. It’s easier pushing from behind weight than pulling like FWD
Engineer's are the best to decide whether AWD or FWD or RWD... it depends on where the engine's weight is located more, eg Lambo's are RWD because engine is located back, more weight back..so more grip, you can see many conventional Cars are FWD because engine is located front, more weight front and better grip...

It's common sense..The FWD has better grip because the weight(engine) is in the front. It would be the other way around if the weight(engine) is in the back of the RWD, then it'd have more grip than a FWD.
Rwd usually have more grip than a fwd when you need it the most. Full car with trailer, and baggage means the fwd loose weight one the front wheels when going up a hill. Rwd gains weight under acceleration up the same hill because of weight transfer. The front shocks actually rises, and the rear shocks compress more. That means much more traction on the rwd. My father always had to reverse his old fwd saab to get up some roads. It was impossible otherwise. Even with only 2 in the car.
Fastest dragsters are rwd, fastest track cars are rwd. End of story. (I'm wondering if the creator of the video ever been in a car, especially when fwd launched better lol)
Because all the weight is on the steering wheels, which means when you're driving fast during cornering you just have to accelerate to maintain grip and prevent the rear side from sliding. In rwd this would result in a crash or drift.

In physics, when the car accelerate, the center of mass will move backward so the weight and the grip in front wheel will decrease causing the front wheel spin (fwd). The back wheel will has more grip because the weight move back ward. So, i think RWD has more grip than FWD if they compare in drag race. CMIIW
If you look again the drag race is in a wet weather. Fwd track car with 200hp at 1000lbs is like a rwd track car with 300hp at 1000 lbs. both will finish equally
Filip is not the fact that is faster, but the fact a lot of people forget/dont take in consideration: GRIP. Grip is to have a good (not too low, not to high) tyre contact with the road. The fact the engine bay is right over the FWD main axle, that means weight is pressing the tyres on the road, which sometimes means a perfectly grip. The RWD has little weight on the rear (if you compare with the front) and when acellerating, you can literally spin out of control because the tyres will spin without good contact with the ground(in this case, the grip is low. Mustangs love to do that). If you have too much grip on a RWD the front side of the car will raise (the famous wheelie) and you certainly will crash or break because when the car hits the ground again everything will shake like hell. A good example are RWD drag racers which need a wheelie bar to avoid themselves commiting suicide. The mass center of a FWD is between the driver and the front wheels, and that's theorically a good proportion of weight. However FWD still can lose control, in this case it's called oversteer and that occurs when a FWD loses the rear wheel contact with the road which makes the rear push the whole car to the side you're turning. It only happens if you're at high speed, you make a turn and the rear wheels lose grip.
Miles Jr no because the mass is shifted all to the rear resulting in complete loss of traction in the front. Mustangs are infamous for crashing into groups of people for this very reason.
@@dirceum8224 many rear wheel drive cars have a good 50/50 weight distribution between the front and rear, (although there are a few that don't).This results in a balanced vehicle which improves handling.
😂 you clearly never seen speed factory’s fwd honda civic at world cup finals back halfing every car there lol rwd an awd. And they make less power fwd with only slightly less weight went and went 7.47@215 mph in the 1/4mile
Awd loses more power because of having to power 4 wheels usually slowing the car down in drag racing on a track most of the time fwd and rwd win races awd really only has a place on the street or the dirt or in the rain otherwise it really has no benefit it makes cars heavier and have a higher lose of power
