Huge problem's here... an analogy: Wong Fei Hong's fu hok seung ying kuen, tiger crane; imagine it as an intricately composed symphony at best performed by full orchestra in concert; an advanced practitioner displays as taught such metaphorical tenets, a full display & understanding of any advanced harmony & dynamics... This video is the performance equivalent of one man knocking out the same melody by ear at home one fingered on a Bontempi Organ... sure some folks may say it's the same tune, but it's simply mere impersonation of the actual orchestration; doesn't matter how many times they knock the tune out, from one finger to two on that organ, or how many that teach that to. Much power to anyone out there promoting kung fu, but much more in depth study is needed to get to the actual art form. This is not remotely the REAL tiger crane, nor close. Take that as you will; I don't claim to be a great practitioner, but I have been privileged enough to spend a good number of years studying the fu hok tiger crane specifically in depth under the lineage of Lau Kar Leung & have some eye to see this is way off base... would suggest anyone starting here endeavour to dig much further lest the artform gets bastardised into any ridiculous clowning. It's nice that the guy here is physically fit & all, but he needs to question his teachings way further before he tries to pass them on half baked.

I don't know whether to laugh at this, or cry because of this. He's got no clue as to what real Hung Gar (Tiger/Crane) is. I would love to see him or his students enter any leitai competition. It would make me so happy to watch them get beaten by actual Hung Gar stylists.
@cjohnson3836
@cjohnson3836 9 лет назад
To be fair, most hung gar people (most kung fu people) wouldn't fair much better. This dude is a fraud, but at least he's in shape. 90% of kung fu'ers are either 1) Scrawny little guys with emo problems 2) Overweight, balding and spends too much time in front of the computer.
@nomamao

You've described most of the internet, and most people training in any art, as the majority of those "training" never get in the ring, EVER. But, then there are the old war horses who know their shit, and don't have to prove anything. Regardless, to think this guy or his students would fare well in a leitai competition is ridiculous. Sanshou? LOL. It's pretty apparent this guy is full of shit.
@cjohnson3836
@cjohnson3836 9 лет назад
Look here's the deal, I'll say the same thing on his Tiger/Crane as I did his Mantis. I don't care what it "looks" like. You can be freggin spot on with your Fu Hok Seung and still not know a lick of Hung Gar. Hung Gar isn't a condensation of a few forms. Its a strategy (and a history, but right now we're just talking about the fighting). A boxer, that has never been exposed to a single kung fu class, can "know" Hung Gar. Do you know the 12 bridges? Can you apply that into a fighting strategy? That is Hung Gar. Now, I have absolutely no belief that this guy here can do these things, or knows these things. Much like I have no belief he understands the 12 mantis keys, the 8 hard and 12 soft methods, etc. But my statement is ultimately tangential to everything going on in this comment section. I'm simply stating a point on what is or isn't, in my opinion, indicative of a "style." These strategies are the essence of the fighting system, the shape of the form is simply a characteristic of the medium. And with this, I suspect, a large proportion of those here criticizing this dude's Shaolin-Do (and it is Shaolin-Do), probably also don't know their own art like they think they do. If you can't rattle off the 12 bridges and demonstrate how they apply to fighting with an application, you don't know Hung Gar.

@cjohnson3836
@cjohnson3836 28 дней назад
@@johningersoll6647 Stance training is irrelevant and I don't care about western bastardization of Chinese terms. Stances are irrelevant to fighting. They don't train strength and stances aren't equal to footwork. Stances are what people that can't fight talk about.

All Hung Ga styles have animal from old village hung ga to Wong Fri Hung, Lam Sai Wing lineage. All have animal sets. Gung ji funk fu kuen (Taming the TIGER set) Fu Hok Swung Ying Kuen (TIGERCRANE Double Shape Fist) Tit Sin Kuen (Dragon) and. Five Animal Fist (Ng Ying Kuen) Name one Hung Ga Kuen style that has NO animal sets. I'm from the Dang Fong hung Kuen lineage. Oh before I for get, there is no such thing as the TIGERCRANE hand. Its called the kiu Sao (Bridge Hand). This man knows absolutely nothing about TIGER CRANE kungfu.

Very nice form, but for the uninitiated, this isn’t what Hung Ga practices, while some movements are similar this wouldn’t be a Shaolin or Hung Ga form. Think of this as more Qigong daily exercise. No ill intentions, this is still a very nice informative video. Keep up the good work!

Not saying its a perfect idea, but in other countries you have to be certified by a gov't panel that you know what you say you know, in order to teach martial arts. Cuts down on a lot of the crap in those countries. Not perfect, but prevents this mess.

+Kung Fu & Tai Chi Center w/ Jake Mace Me personally growing up loved Bruce Lee, he was a huge inspiration to me and my growing love for Martial Arts as well as Jackie Chan, Meng Lo, Chia-Hui Liu, Jet Li, Etc.) but if I had to pick one, I'd go with Jackie Chan for many reasons, I will always respect what Bruce Lee had done for the Martial Arts world as well as the film industry forever, all the wisdom that he left us with, as well as his legacy that still to this day, is very much alive, the man is an Icon, kids imitate him and don't even know who Bruce Lee is yet, I choose Jackie Chan because unlike Bruce Lee, Jackie was not like Bruce lee at all, although they both did Martial Arts, Bruce Lee's approach to Martial Arts and film is far different to Jackie Chan's in my opinion, Jackie is seen more as the very kind, generous, comical, Stunt Master, as opposed to Bruce, who shares many of the traits of Jackie Chan, but in my eyes was a very serious man, who continuously strive to be the best, Jackie's approach to Martial Arts however is very different than Bruce Lee's Art of Jeet Kune Do (JKD) Jackie's Martial Arts when seen in his older films seemed very Shaolin oriented, very much like traditional Gung Fu, when he did Drunken Fist in the film Drunken Master, you see that segment when he is training, he is imitating the 8 Drunken Gods, then in Fearless Hyena, his Martial Arts is quite different than in Drunken Master, Then when he started making American films it was way different than his old school Martial Arts films. These are films yes, but much can be learned just from observing these films, today there are people who study Drunken Fist as a Chinese Martial Art, people study Jeet Kune Do as a Chinese Martial Art as well. Both are great in there own ways, had gave a lot to the world, but Bruce's Jeet Kune Do Art form to me, is somewhat predictable, compared to some Chinese Martial Arts I've seen, like Monkey Style, etc.) because it's a mixture of several Arts, including Western Boxing, I am refering to Jeet Kune Do, It really depends on who is using the art in the end, how they apply it to real life situations, and about how they apply it to their training, but Jackie Chan to me is my favorite. Again Bruce has been a huge inspiration to my growing love for Martial Arts as well as many others including my very own Father, who has been doing Martial Arts since he was a child, but Jackie Chan's approach to Martial Arts is more appealing to me than Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do Martial Arts style. (R.I.P. Bruce Lee.)

I prefer Bruce Lee's aggression over Jackie Chans goofy style of fighting but Jackie Chan is an environmental martial artist it makes for a great look in movies and it makes Jackie that much dangerous cuz he has a great set of moves to hurt u with along with the environment.. so I'm team Jackie I guess.. much respect to both of those legends by the way

where is the opening salute and the last salute. All Chinese kungfu styles, Open and close with a salute. Also the fist should be at your sides. Only Wing Chun his the fist by the chest. The salute is very important. you haven't got a clue on what too do.
@Heimdal001
@Heimdal001 6 лет назад
Pull your elbows back further, when your fists are at your side. They should be straight at your side, not listing in front of your chest. Your feet are too wide for your horse stance. The fingers in your tiger palm need to relax just a touch; your palm is doing the striking, your fingers should be prepared to grab or claw, even though they will not, but as training for a subtle bit of versatility. Don't aggressively breath out while you're changing your fingers, that is a bad habit. Your style hand postures should have tension at the wrist, meaning you're pulling your fingers back such that your hand is as close to a 90 degree angle up from your arm - you should feel it. The wrist should not be relaxed, straight, and at your side in the hand posture, because that's not what it exists for. Just hold a fist in the off hand while the moving hand does the posture. These are all entry level points that would be pointed out to someone on their first day of doing any sort of styles like this. Please find a teacher.

@drchango2010
@drchango2010 9 лет назад
Hung Gar is where the Tiger Crane form came from. Other systems adopted it, but it is a pillar of the Hung system and he is butchering it. When I first started kung fu I trained with someone very similar to this guy and then spent years undoing bad habits. Doing these forms incorrectly can even be detrimental to your health. Bad alignment in your stances can destroy knees and ankles, incorrect alignment in strikes can damage hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders if you ever hit anything. The qi gong done incorrectly can cause blood flow issues, ruptured capillaries, and even a hernia. This guy is making money off of the martial arts equivalent of junk science, a snake oil salesman in karate pants.

@pistol975 9 лет назад
Jesshung You are correct that tiger/crane came from Hung Gar. Yet as drchango2010 hinted at other styles have adopted and adapted it so that there are other tiger/crane styles out there. Another example of this is the Bung Bo mantis form which has many variations. Some other tiger/crane styles look very similar to the Hung Gar system, some do not. I was only stating that Mr. Mace was not performing a Hung Gar tiger/crane style. I will say that you are correct if you look at it from the standpoint that all tiger/crane styles came from the original Hung Gar system in one way or another..
