with this much autotune over the samples we can barely argue either of the 2 are "real", especially when we're talking about voice cloning rather than completely generated vocals. Both of the audios you hear have been drastically changed digitally already

This is genuinely insane. I got 12 right, as someone who studied music at degree level, some of these are impossible to tell. I am equal parts excited and nervous for the future of the music industry.

Key takeaway from this: Many "singers" use so much autotune that they might as well just be using a computer for the vocals to begin with. Don't even need the people, especially when the autotune many times sounds better than the massive autotune.

The BBC Radiophonic Workshop deliberately introduced irregularities into their electronic music to make it sound more human. People just responded better when it wasn't too perfect. This helped me spot the ai a few times.

I think I found a way to spot AI vocals very consistantly : AI vocals have very inconsistant sibilances and energy in the "p", "b" and "d". Following this method I almost got everything right (a few were undistinguishable from real vocals even with this method unfortunately)

Love the RU-vidr music squad ya have on! entertaining opinions- Gabe’s singing is lovely! However, some of the ones on here may as well have been AI because they sounded bad…but I’m guessing it was on purpose to make it harder to tell? Kinda agree with Daniel, that the ones indistinguishable it’s also just due to most music is heavily artificially enhanced/ stylized with programs.

This is nuts. My favorite music comes from last century… so all sounds like AI to me!

As someone who has played both saxophones and clarinets from middle school until after college, that instrumental round was super obvious to me. One sounded distinctly like an alto sax and the other sounded distinctly like a clarinet. If both played the same line with a straight tone, then maybe the AI could work, but these lines both played to the strength of their instrument. Also, maybe a soprano sax vs clarinet would be better, or a tenor sax vs bass clarinet. The voices had me fooled though. I stopped trying after a bit.

Excuse me while I do the math haha There were 17 rounds and the average of the final scores was 9.75. So on average they were right 57.4% of the time. Which is not significantly high enough to distinguish it from random chance and so the math is suggesting that the average listener already can't tell the difference between a real singer and AI. 4 people isn't a big enough sample size to definitively say tho

I'm excited for this, but also nervous for the human musicians. On the one hand, we have diamonds in the rough for songwriters, people who are not known...much at all, but make great writing for potential songs. On the other hand, a lot of people are going to lose their jobs, and that sucks.

I got them all right. There's an easy way to tell with this one. Listen to the timbre of each voice. The AI is always less dynamic, as if always singing in their chest voice.

round 12: 2nd sounds like a vocalizer i know. i guessed right, but don't know the artist, lol. round 13: 2nd has more soul (is this your assistant, lol?). guessed right round 14: voice 1 is ai, bc autotune is hard to distinguish. guessed right round 15: 2 is ai, bc it sounds so clean. guessed right (makes me think i should have played since the beginning...) round 16: 1 is real, bc mouth asmr. guessed right round 17: 1 sounds like a sax, while 2 had a klarinett sounding mistake. but, 1 sounds like it got converted. i was wrong for choosing 1, bruh. i knew the right answer but was wrong.

I got really good at this when you brought in the sax and clarinet 😂 been playing clarinet for 17 years!

As a saxophone player for the past 43 years, it was very easy to pick the real sax. I want to know what kind of saxophone was played. It sounded like a Selmer. They're more smooth than other saxes, they don't really have that rasp that you hear in most pop songs with a saxophone. I have a Selmer Mark VI and I will never part ways from it.

The vocal on 2:49 is actually sick, idk why but I instantly heard it on a sick dubstep track. This vocal makes me want to take the dive into producing hahaha

This was an interesting and fun quiz! I think u made a point with this video about how difficult it is to tell the difference and how it's going to be impossible in the future. To me all these samples sounded quite digital in a way, perhaps 'cos of auto tuning or something 😅 Gabe was scarily good at sounding digital 😂 The way u introduced Audimee, made me want to try to play with it, sounds like fun. Since I don't make music and don't know enough about the AI, I feel like my initial reaction to AI in music was a bit naive and purely emotion based. I still think that I rather listen to music where there's a real person behind it, who can actually sing, lyrics based on real human experience etc., than some song where random person typed cat or whatever and clicked create a pop song, which is then basically entirely AI. But like u have said it before, AI is here to stay and I assume that to make really good unique songs even with AI would require a little bit of knowledge perhaps about songwriting and music 😅? So perhaps the artists who will incorporate AI as part of their music making toolbox, but still have strong knowledge and the real story behind the song will thrive still in the future. There's already AI programs that can tell if AI has been used, so perhaps there will be one for music too.. I mean it's ok to use AI, but I would like to know how big part of the song is AI. I wonder what will happen to the Grammys and other award shows. Not that those have a lot of value to me even now, but if a song that has hardly any human input gets insane amounts of plays etc. Will it be awarded if someone let AI do 99% of the song for example and the person can't even sing it themselves 🤪 That seems insane. Also I wonder what will happen to the concert ticket prices of the artists that can actually sing and play instruments 🤔 I really hope that in the future there will still be musicians who put their heart and soul into the music they make and that music won't become this huge mass of same sounding digital porridge. Imperfections, different pronunciations, breaths etc many times makes the song more intriguing. Sorry again for the long comment 😅

Holy... No way I just got all of the ones I could get right, with the execption at like 14:00 and 19:00. I looked at things that would've been smoothed by AI, looked at specific consontants, looked for more soulfully attacked words and phrases, natural styles, and human-like they are TRYING to sound. I was flabbergasted with myself and don't blame you if you don't believe me. Maybe it was just luck, maybe I have a knack. Idk. I am a singer 🤷‍♀️

That‘s veeeery interesting!^^ I think maybe the reason, why it‘s easyer to tell human rap apart from artificial rapping is because there is no or verry little autotune used for the real rap. With that much autotune on the singing voices like they are using today, I think the voices sound so artificial that it is allmost impossible to tell them apart from AI voices. I could imagine, that without autotune on the real voices it would be much easier to tell.
