00:00 Real vs. Fake Boutonniere Introduction
Boutonnieres are a popular topic around here at the Gentleman’s Gazette. In fact, we’ve produced numerous posts on how they are made, how to select the right ones for your outfit, how to wear them, and even sell a variety of faux models at the Fort Belvedere shop!
At first glance, many might have a negative impression of artificial flowers. After all, when it comes to their use in interior design, they might conjure up images of something in doctor’s offices or your great-aunt’s sitting room. Just like with most things, though, there can be a huge range of qualities and, often, you get what you pay for.
02:56 Natural Flowers - Pro: It Looks Alive & Vibrant
03:33 Con 1. Looks and Longevity
08:24 2. Lack of Convenience
09:12 3. Cost (You’ll Spend More Over Time!)
11:11 Artificial Flowers - Pro 1. Different Sizes
11:30 2. Longevity
12:29 3. Several Style Options
14:11 Con: It Doesn’t Smell Like Real Flowers
At the end of the day then, the choice of what to wear for a boutonniere is ultimately yours. But, you can see why we here at the Gentleman’s Gazette are big fans of artificial boutonnieres.
Assuming you buy one of high quality, it’s going to look 99% like a real flower, have a much lower cost per wear, and simply be more convenient. You won’t need to worry if your local florist has boutonnieres or spend the time to go get them. In other words, peace of mind is another big reason why these artificial boutonnieres are the winners in our book.
So, if you are now curious about artificial boutonnieres, head over to the Fort Belvedere shop, take a look at our selection, and, perhaps, even compare them to the offerings of your local florist. We’re confident that you’ll enjoy them as much as we do.
And, of course, if you don’t, feel free to return them for a full refund at zero risks to you. We’re confident that you’ll like our product and we do stand behind it. Does your local florist offer that kind of a happiness guarantee? You’ll have to find out for yourself.
Hopefully, we’ve convinced you, then, that if you take the time to seek out quality an artificial flower is nothing to scoff at when it comes to boutonnieres and, indeed, may actually be the better choice in the long run.

I prefer to wear artificial boutonnieres because they look better all day long. Remember Frank Sinatra in Robin and the 7 Hoods: A flower is not a flower if it's wilted.

After the end of World War 2 my Mother attended a series of Trade Corses in Dress making, Pattern making Millenery and Artificial Flower making. The newly built Trade College did not have enough Students because many people who would in the future be trained at the College had already received their Trade training in Military Service. But the Government was preparing for the future, so to get it operational they ran course for local housewives. Because I am technically competent my Mother would recruit me to he;p her. I learned to make the flowers, by shaping the petals using the dozen marble size brass balls, mounted on steel ahafts, with wooden handles which were heated over a spirit lamp. My mother also bought a wooden Head Block in her exact size to shape felt for hats, I learnt to do all of this while I was in Secondary School and I can assure you that many hours of practice is required to make quality flowers.

1) I got a few from you guys, and they seem like the best to get out here. They look so good. 2) ALSO MIND THE SEATBELT. Seatbelts crush and warp the flower too, so take it out when driving, buckle up, and put it back in when you get out of your car.

One of the flowers not mentioned anywhere I can see is the Zinnia. It is a great summer flower, extremely easy to grow, comes in a ton of colors and sizes, and produces more flowers the more you harvest. It also makes a great boutonnière. The shape is very similar to a carnation, they have a thin bendable stem, and they will usually last all day before becoming noticeable limp. I use artificial flowers in winter, but love Zinnias in summer. If folks want a low cost, dependable, live flower, I highly recommend the Zinnia.

I haven't watched the video yet, but I will hazard an answer to the question: could it be the option that Sven Raphael sells for exorbitant prices? For some reason I suspect that will be the conclusion. Not much money in fresh flowers, eh?
@phillipj.moodie3077
@phillipj.moodie3077 3 года назад
@ Seybertooth. Well it may be an exhorbitant price that Sven Raphael charges. But based on the consistent quality of his videos, which now have nearly a million subscribers, he can probably ask a high price beause of the poor quality products sold through both Menswear and Department Stores. But the Buyer is the one who decides if a price is exhorbitant. My suits that I throw into an airline bag to make Technical Sales Calls cost on average $US 1,200. The suits that I wear when flying interstate to attend Customer meetings are Department Store "Made to Measure" which cost on average $3,500 and the Bespoke Suits that I wear to Company Board level presentations are more expensive than the Department Store "Bespoke" suits. But these are just part of any Enterprise Salesman's "Tool Box", who is on a minimum salary of $1 million in any of the leading High Technology Companies. So which of that range of what to any Salesman are just "Tools of the Trade" do you classify as being an "Exhorbitant Price". And I am just an old Salesman, try that exercise with a top flight Lawyer in any of the Top 10 Law Firms. I dress to "Mirror" my Peer Group, not to impress the Peasants. It works for me, which is why I am always being offered new projects. The CEO's of the TOP 100 Companies want people who represent them to look capable, because "Actions speak more than words" in an environment where nobody cares what is on your Linked In profile. Phil.

Well, considering that the local florist in my city has no idea of what is a boutonier neither, how to make one and the FB's ones won't be affordable in South America, my only option was to make them by my own, and honestly, I'm very proud of ylthe results.

It is exaggerated to say that you can use a real flower only for a few hours, but it's indeed true that you won't have more than a "working" day in which you could use a real flower, that's why normally natural boutonnieres were used for special events such as a weeding. Indeed, to be fair, for day to day use I would still use an artificial one.

I have to be honest, I disagree with the opinion of the Gentlemen’s Gazette on live boutonnieres. Recently I was a concierge at a resort in VT, and I wore a live carnation daily. I got fantastic comments, and I loved having the fresh beautiful bloom. In the beginning, I just put the carnation in my lapel, but as I learned more, I began to prepare the carnations as you have demonstrated in the video. I had learned how to prepare them elsewhere. I loved the natural beauty. I bought enough carnations for the week for 1$ a piece at my local grocery store. They do have some cons, but I think a live flower prepared well is a classy and classic option.

Hello. I love classic menswear, I wait till Friday for another GG episode. But it is so sad that that is just an advertisement for your shop. Where are the excitement documentation? I am hungry for more information about cloths, tissues, styles etc. But in the last time there were more advertisements than real stuff about classic menswear . I can understand that is difficult to find new topics. But you can make more about cloth, craftsmenship and updates from old episodes. Ich wünsche euch alles Gute und viel Kreativität. Ich denke, dass bekommt ihr hin. Greetings from Germany.

It seems like you do not watch many of our videos. It is so funny to me, that if there is a mention of a Fort Belvedere product people feel insulted. The reality is, we could not be doing those videos you ask for if we could not find a way to finance them. The scriptwriters, the content director, the editors, the videographers, the transcribers... all have to be paid, and youtube ads are not to cover the cost of production.

All that is said is trying to justify the overpriced faux flower boutonaires. I hate to be such a pest to your site for I like you more than the others. Fact is having a real flower on the the lapel is not as complicated as you made it to be. I do it quite often; it is as the matter of picking the right choice.
@gentlemansgazette
@gentlemansgazette 3 года назад
Sure, if you just pick a flower from the yard, it works. I have found that many wilt, and the carnation is a bit of work, and as we showed, real roses are a pain, at least in my experience. If you have good access to real flowers, wear them and enjoy them. We all have different needs. Not sure if you watched the video on the making of the flowers, and once you add the packaging, logistics, customer service cost and everything, it is not overpriced, although it may be too expensive for some or not worth it, and that is ok. We cannot be everything to everybody.

9 minutes in and I'm ending my viewing. This is really coming across as a cheap sales pitch for your artificial boutonnieres. The slant against natural flowers really comes across as tacky. I really like this channel, but this video really comes across as contrived straw man sales. "Wearing a fresh flower might cause you to be attacked by killer bees!"
@gentlemansgazette
@gentlemansgazette 3 года назад
I guess, we do not share the same kind of humor. Real flowers are great if you have the time and money to make them work. If you want more convenience, artificial ones are worth considering. At the end of the day, it is each to his own, and you are welcome to stop watching at any point in time. No matter what we do, someone will always be unhappy, sorry to disappoint you this time, I hope you find more value in other videos on the channel.
