I *love* both styles. Actually I used to listen to "real" Jazz a lot more and I wasn't very fond of "smooth" Jazz because I thought that was not Jazz but "R&B with something else whatever". Now I listen smooth Jazz a lot more... I think it's the age 🤔

I know ✓ the outstanding reaction was for ★Smooth Jazz★ but I was just saying (because I got surprised with their reaction) that ★Smooth Jazz★ was not a big deal in my life, since I used to listen ~Real Jazz~ a lot more but now I would react the same way they did because I prefer ★Smooth Jazz★ most of the time 🤭😉🙊🤷🏼‍♀️

I got into listening to jazz, and/or contemporary jazz years ago; hanging out with my slightly older cousin... Some ◇(real jazz)◇ I'll listen to [once in a while]. But ☆{Smooth Jazz}☆ takes it! Is it intelligent to play music (as a job/career/etc.) that the majority of people don't support monetarily? It's an actual question - as a business owner (musician) it seems it would be more intelligent to create music that a larger amount of people will pay money to listen to.

@@DavePollack one could say that or one could find a way to be both. Which takes harder dedication to the art form. It’s also depends on the artist. Are they just playing songs for show? Are they at least sincere? Etc.. you are no longer a jazz musician if you’re not improvising. You are just an entertainer now. I don’t think most saxophonist decided to practice so they can make millions of dollars. I like to think they went to school to study how to become better at their crafts and play music that moves them. All that being said, their is a component to playing music that your audience likes. I just think you have to have a balance

Smooth Jazz WNUA 95.5 Chicago..... A part of me died the day that station went off air. I grew up with that. My dad and that station are what turned me on to all things Jazz.

Authentic original Jazz is Bebop, not smooth. Smooth was created in the late 1980's to appease people who wanted to listen to something soothing and relaxing. There's nothing wrong with either of them. Stop being a snob

I like BeBop and I'm born after 2000s. Chromatic enclosers, Chord Substitution, Bebop Lines, Modal Interchanges are just interesting to listen to. But I feel non-musicians find it harder to appreciate be-bop in this Era. Smooth jazz is so cliché, careless whisper is cemented as the most cliché jazz song.
