Realistic Rock by Carmine Appice - John Bonham Grooves || DRUM BOOK STUDIES 

I learned from this book and still use it to this day !

It's one of the two books I learnt from, and teach from...the other is Art Of The Drummer by John Savage. Both get you started RIGHT and equip you with material you can use today! Carmine's book IS EXCEPTIONAL! If you only ever mastered the material from that book you'd be miles ahead of many pros today! The sections on 7/8 and 9/8 are gold...classic grooves where you don't notice that it slips effortlessly in and out of the odd time signatures, just ear-catching funky licks! Couple of interesting points...Carmine wrote a book called Rudiments To Rock that breaks down how to use the standard rudiments in modern drumming Second, Led Zeppelin used to open for Vanilla Fudge (Carmine's band) and John Bonham became friends with him. Carmine once said that Bonzo took the bass drum triplets from the song , telling in a 2006 interview: "When I first heard do that triplet thing on the bass drum, I went up to him and said, ', that is amazing. I have to admit that I took that from you.' Bonham looked at me and said, 'What are you talking about? I took that from you!' I replied, 'I don't do that. You couldn't have taken it from me.' He proceeded to tell me where I did actually do that on the first record and he was right. I only did it for a moment on that album and he took it and made something bigger and better out of it."

My favorite band is Black Sabbath with Dio and Mob Rules with Vinny as the inspiration. Carmine was my teacher. Realistic Rock with the floppy record was the best learning experience for me.

Thanks Marco! I just pulled this book off my shelf a couple of weeks ago. I must have owned it for at least 8 years and did nothing with it. I'm going through the book myself and the triple section was a little intimidating. You've cleared it up completely for me. This book is really wonderful. Other drum books mint money. This book mints drummers. Just started with this book. Its very versatile.

The cool thing I used to mention to students about this book was how each drum is written on its own line sort of like a high school band directors’ master sheet
