In this episode of Drum book studies, the classic book Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone is used to demonstrate an exercise that helps develop the jazz samba style that Steve Gadd was famous for.
We focus specifically on the 72 patterns from pages 5 , 6 & 7
After getting through all 72 patterns, your Steve Gadd jazz samba style will be in much better shape

Stick Control is one of the Holy Grails of modern drumming. I remember my first drum teacher giving me "Stick Control" 34 years ago and even back then he himself said it's one of the most important books for all drummers!

Thanks Tony for chiming in. Yes, Stick Control is one of the drum bibles. Still have the copy I purchased in early 80's. And still use it as part of my maintenance practising

I've seen other exercises where the kick is played when the right hand is played. Would you endorse this method?

Absolutely! This video is only 1 of hundreds of ways to apply on the kit. Having kick play what right hand does is a lotta fun.

Really enjoying your series Marco. I have a question on the Syncopation video. Finally got Ted Reed's book delivered today. The new print seems to line up with the original, page 33 is first set of Syncopation. It is only on this page that there is a "+" placed above snare symbol. ????

Hi Jerry! Nice to hear from you! It seems that your copy is the newer edition where the pages are off by one. The page you are referring to is page 32 in the original. This is the page with the plus sign, which btw means 'AND' as in 1 AND 2 AND 3 AND 4 AND, in reference to counting 8th notes.
