This was my first expansion kit purchase. I recently got the TD-27KV2, which I love but tbh not crazy about the stock kits. Your set blew me away. So much better! Cymbals sound awesome too; love how the bell really cuts through. Thanks for doing an exceptional job, for this detailed walk through and demo, and for the helpful getting started video (the PDF doesn't mention to choose BKUP-005.TD0 from the download)!

Got this VEX expansion a few days ago, it really makes the TD-27 shine, excellent sounding kits and I like the way that you can mix & match - cymbals from one kit, a snare from another, toms from a third set etc. and only need to make minor adjustments to create a new kit. Makes getting an appropriate sound for a project simple and quick. Highly recommended!

You're better off loading the entire expansion, but I have included individual kit files in case you'd like to copy them in separately.

Just bought these kits and they're amazing. After downloading other packages, this is the only set of kits I need. Yes, there was some volume tweaking and pad adjustments but that's all preference. Best kits and sounds anywhere. Nice job!! 😎🥁👍🏻

Man, i downloaded the pack and played without music and I was like “ Meh”. I added a drum less track and started playing along, holy cannelloni. That’s the deal. The prog kit for playing disturbed is a pleasure. I was literally playing and stopping suddenly to check if it was the pre-recorded drum or me. The drum - with the appropriate kit - blends in perfectly! Now I can start a YT channel doing some nasty cover! The price is totally worth it!!

I have been playing Roland kits for over 14 years, I buy them because of the quality of the kits but not necessarily the quality of the stock sounds which most of us can agree are not the best even after spending HOURS tweaking them. I now own a vad 506 kit which I have expanded and after buying the Reality Expansion kit it has brought my module to life !! The sounds are incredible. If you are on the fence about changing the way your kit sounds and wanting them to sound more "acoustic like" don't hesitate... purchase this !!

I just bought the pack yesterday. I love almost all of the kits as they do fit nicely with songs. I do use an audio interface that runs to the pc so I can stream and what not. I did have to mess with the volumes a lot to get the kits to be higher in volume. My real only complaint is you don't have any of the ride cymbals set up to be able to crash on them as well. The edges are set up the same as the surface of the ride. I am adding a crash sound to the rides but it would be a nice thing to do say maybe on your next sound packs. Also if I could make another suggestion, have one of the crashes able to be crashed on over and over. I play a lot of sevendust were during chorus's and what not the crashes are used for the most part. Other then that you have some very nice kits in this pack and great for anyone who doesn't really want to mess around with the internal sounds and what not to make their own kits.

Glad you are enjoying the pack. The rides have "ride edges." So yes, if you desire to use your ride as a crash-ride, you'll have to add crash edges to your ride. FWIW, I design the crashes with more compression to carry this load. However, I will keep this in mind for the future and consider adding a few crash-ride versions in another kit for copying across kits.

@@VExpressionsLTD Yeah I noticed how much the cymbals are compressed. Not good for lots of crashing. More just kinda crash once and move on. I am trying to tweak them but soooooooo much compression.

Compression is done just like we do it in the studio. Albeit, pushed a little more at the instrument and master level, due to the loss of bus and mastering levels in the studio side. All you have to do is bring the instrument level threshold back up. Most ratios are fairly low. So, two minor adjustments at most. The master comp is fairly conservative across all kits. If you take notice, you’ll see I do dual band compression in order to keep the higher end transients and range more natural. 😉

Have you planned to demonstrate us the Maxx and Venue Expansions pack on the TD 27 ? Another question, do you think you can split the kick input with two cables, playing on two kick pads ? Without using any aux input. Thanks and great drumming by the way !

We'll consider a demo video. You should be able to run a splitter with no problem. You'll have to ask around how to do it properly without having to match the head settings to the rim manually.

While this is certainly the best I’ve heard a Roland sound I’m using an ad5 for just cymbals and a pmp for the drum sounds with a small mixer I feel like I’ve got a great setup vst quality drums and cymbals have you ever tried the ad5 the cymbals play and articulate very well

Cool video but the snare on here sounds pretty dry&flat, not much punch to it either. Reminds me too much of the Alesis Strike tbh. I personally like a lot more tension on my snare for a brighter, higher pitch. These are the best E-snares on the market so it's important to exhibit their fullest potential. Nice playing 👌

Nothing special. Nothing split. Setup is exactly what you see. A1 is the splash, A2 is the China, and A3 is tom 4.

Thanks for the kind words! Sorry for the delay. YT didn't send me this notification for some reason. Reverb (as everything else) is always adjustable! We never lock any settings from you. Everything can be tweaked any way you desire. The 27 and 17 are about on par with each other when it comes to editing. (if I understand the question correctly)

I'm looking for a rim shot with a super high ting, for reggee music. Like an acoustic snare that has a high pitched ring if you hit the snare as close to the rim as possible and hit the rim. I don't even know if this is possible on ekits or not yet. I've tried on my TD27 and digital snare and I get too lost in the settings and just play a preset because I never accomplish what I want. My tries get me so lost that the user channel is useless because I can't get the snare back to the factory set up, unless there's a way to do it besides a factory reset of the entire module ? I wish someone would come out with a comprehensive tutorial of how to do the settings, especially how to use the positional sensing. I tried and got nowhere. Like, can you put a different sound on the left side of the snare then the right ? Is this possible ? I have no idea if I'm just wasting time or not. Roland really needs tutorials with ALL of their equipment !!!!! WAY detailed ones !!!!! THANKS for your video, I loved a lot of the beats. Still no snare sound I'm looking for though. I have a similar set up as your using A3 for tom 4. However I don't have as many cymbals and I use a PD85 for another tom or other sounds depending on the kit. How do I set up the kits to my particular setup? With my TD 15 I just used the Vdrumlb software so it was pretty easy. Love the sounds. TIA

Simply copy the closest tom to that additional input and re-tune it to fit your desired result.

Oh man... that 7 preset, the country (ahem... country! ...) is worth the 60 bucks on it's own... lol Great job, I enjoy the set very much... The rides are a little loud though... is it my new CY-18R that I am not used to yet? I will need to figure out a way to tone them down some... Overall very happy with the set.

The TD27 kit it comes with a smaller bass drum and single kick pedal although I see in the video that you are using a bigger bass and double kick pedal ,can you tell which bass drum are you using? Also I noticed you have several addition to you drum set. Could you please list all the additions.

It's a TD-30KV kit with the DP50 upgrade. Nothing really abnormal. Only additions for this demo is the splash, crash for China, and forth tom. (A1, 2, & 3)

LOL Thanks, but it's gone. It got few more inches after this, but I thought 18 months was enough. Anyway, I personally would go with the Mimic, but it really depends on your needs. If you just care about high quality "real" drum sounds, then the Mimic cannot be beat.

I don't own an electronic kit yet but I am considering the TD 27 with the VAD 506 set. When you down load the Reality Expression kits. are they down loaded into the drum module. or into your computer. and if they are downloaded to a computer. can you then put them into the module or do you need the computer connected with the drums ?

What speakers or recording program are you using ? are you recording directly to internal recorder of TD-27? It sounds so good. I purchased this pack and try to record using internal recorder of TD27 but it sound nothing compare this this video. Thanks.

It's just master out to the DAW for easier syncing with the video. That's harder to sync with a ton of module single wavs. It's also the exact same signal as recording in the module. The website samples are recorded in the module individually and limited up to -9 lufs like a CD. The YT videos are exactly the same (via the master out instead), and limited up to -14 lufs.(YT's limit) Regardless, they're identical with transparent gain via a limiter to avoid clipping. Thus, nothing gets changed but the volume. I plan to do a video on this topic.

Are these kits made only with the existing Roland td 27 sounds or did you include one shot samples from other programs or the recording of samples in a studio?

Can't tell, huh? 😀 Well, we always completely overhaul the internal sounds. In rare cases, we layer one-shots on modules that allow, but not in the case of Reality. We didn't feel the need at the time, based on the goal of the expansion. Nothing is anywhere close to what Roland provides. That's why it's hard to tell and we get asked constantly. Hope that helps!

These sounds are right up my alley. I don’t like straight-up traditional drum sounds, otherwise I would just record an acoustic kit lol. Great job! Just a side-bar: does the TD27 module have issues with the hi-hat? I’ve been seeing that expressed on other forums. Like issues that the TD17 & TD50 are not having. I want to pull the trigger on a VAD 506 but the hi-hat issue is making me balk. One thing’s for certain, if I get the 27, I’m getting this pack.

Many people are experiencing variances of chokes with any HH pad on the 27. Roland seems to be looking into it, and a fix in the future looks possible. I can only speak from personal experience. My VH-13 works identical on all of my Roland modules - except the 27. Increased offset spacing seems to help, but a rare “choke” of quickly opened hats will still happen. (for me and many anyway) Would I let it stop me from buying the 27? Probably not. I’ve gotten working well enough to overlook the issue until Roland addresses it. YMMV

@@VExpressionsLTD I bought both your kits for the TD-17 and they're wonderful. Thinking of buying this TD-27kv since I leave the TD-17 at band practice and my TD-12 is old and tired. Play classic rock so when I'm ready you can recommend what I get to fill up the TD-27. (TD-27's on backorder at most places.) Love what I've purchased so far. Just can't beat it.

I'll double check, but I always run a limiter to be safe. There were no warnings during export. If you want to provide an exact moment I can verify, that would be helpful.

So, after checking it all out, I think it's just the combination of gating, compression, and de-reverb together that is giving you this feeling. I verified there is no clipping. I don't have the greatest voice for voice over anyway. (lol) I'll try to soften it up in future videos. This room is quite boomy, and that combination of processing is hard to "nail down."

Those are the MG version of the symbals with a metallic grey coating. Roland made these up to 2018 but discontinued them because the coating tends to wear off, sometimes quite fast.

Just got the td27-vk, will the expansion work out of the box without having your extra tom and cymbal? I'm fairly techie so no issues with the process. Sorry probably a stupid question. I'm finding the module a bit daunting and although I will learn it, it will be over months as this is a 30 minute a day hobby for me and in the meantime I would like to have some awesome sounds to play with!

The module holds 100 kits at a time. You will probably want to use this pack separately, or load individual kits from each pack as you desire until you reach 100. Your choice.

Of course! I always max out for the expansions, and never demo anything more than the available I/O. This is what "maxed out" looks like. (also why you see two of my CYs taken down) The splash is A1, the china is A2, and the T4 is A3. Hope that helps!

The differences are far more obvious when mixed with music. Samples on the site will show you. I suggest using good trustworthy monitoring.

As mentioned in the video, the kits are designed to gel with music. Without music accompaniment, they will sound overly wet. This disappears in a full mix. The kits are not designed to be dry “solo” kits.

Hello, I bought this Package but unfortunately it not sound like I hear it here in your demo. I install it from scratch and I didn't made any changes, all the kits sounds with a lot of reverb. lets take for example the "pop dry" kit, when i it the bass i ear crazy reverb, in your video here, it sound clean and sharp. what could be the issue ?

Difference in your monitoring before and after. The demos are directly from the module. You simply need to turn down the “room” level to your preferred level. It only takes a second or two.

I think I really screwed up because now kits 1 through 99 have only a kit number and no sound whatsoever.

Your firmware update I was not completed. Either the update installation was interrupted (it takes quite some time, and you likely interrupted it), and or you need to perform a factory reset. Try the factory reset FIRST. If it doesn’t change anything, try the latest firmware installation again, followed by a factory rest again. If that doesn’t work, your incomplete update bricked the module, and you’ll have to contact Roland to get it fixed. You’ve already told me you hadn’t installed the VEX kits, so this is about the firmware update. Roland needs to help you.

Videos are with the reverb fader set to 0. It's the user's option to lower the fader to their desired level. 😉

While there is a snare or two in the expansion that exhibits a more “thicker” resulting sound due to the layering of a “head” on the rim to achieve said specific sound, the vast majority of kits have a rimshot as expected. It’s quite noticeable. I would question your monitoring if you’re having an issue hearing them. If you’re talking about demonstrating “edge” rimshots (a la reggae), I don’t think any were demonstrated.
