He wielded the swords backwards sometimes. During the show, fighting Dinobot in episode 2, he wields them backwards, but other times he uses them normally
Tbh the gorilla mode looks kinda like the beast machines primal in terms of techno organic gorilla where it is more a detailed gorilla with robo bits not saying he’s robot mode looks bad but compared to ANY live action prime designs next to primal design I love the way they took with the live action takes of the beast wars cast
5:06 Ba dum tish 5:09 Scott Lang sneezing in the background. 8:19 Wish they had Garry Chalk so that the movie has two legendary actors who voiced Optimus Prime. 10:10 Nice call back of one of the episodes. Great looking Optimus Hellboy... I mean Primal figure, Baltmatrix!
The mistake with a lot of reviewers is they don't know how to be realistic with their expectations. Count your blessings because chasing perfection only leads to disappointment of your own making. Something doesn't have to be perfect to be great; like the ROTB Voyager Optimus Prime.
ROTB mainline Optimus Prime is a dud. For a voyager figure it’s substantially smaller than it should be with minuscule amounts of paint. Hasbro needs to step up their game. Even if it’s the main ROTB and not Studio Series, that figure is embarrassingly inadequate
@@qwertyzillaofficial2969 Yeah but Voyagers keep shrinking, the paint keeps disappearing, and the prices keep rising. The Studio Series figures look great...for now. But I'm starting to see signs of compromise happening with the Gamer Edition figures.
Balt, you are right about the blades facing the opposite way! That was the original intent. I first noticed this in the 90s, in the earliest episode where Primal used them for the first time to ward off the Predacons. [PS. I usually only flip them the other way (with the blades facing forward) in 'combined' double-blade form, for the original, Universe 1.0, Robot Masters, 10th Anniversary & Kingdom iterations.] Great review as always, man!
Another great video Balmatrix! Could you possibly tell me what area you from and finding these? I live in Central Maine, and all of the local walmarts still only have the first and second wave of Legacy in them, twice I've found Evo figures, but it's been few weeks since I last seen them! Any hunting help would be appreciated!
I always saw his sword little”hook” part of the guard went on the back like a swooping upwards guard like scimitar or a Chinese broad sword which is what I feel they’re based on
One of my favourite Mainline figures so far. It’s incredible and nearly rivals the Studio Series. For the longest time I couldn’t decide which one to go for as the Studio Series hadn’t been revealed yet.
My Holy grails are G1 Ultra Magnus,G1 Springer,G1 Syclonus,G1 Skullcruncher, and selects Megatron, selects OP Star convoy, selects seacons (got Skailor to began with) and that’s all
6:56 If you want to split the chest easier, push the chest outward and then try to split it. It still got tabs to hold the chest at the back of it. Just bought this figure for dirt cheap at £12. While I can't complained too much but it needed abit more engineer and effort to it. Like his ape face should of been painted silver at the least!
Every time I look at a ROTB Optimus Primal figure. I can't help but think how it could be re moulded in a transmetal Optimus Primal. Also I find it ironic that this version of Primal has a mouth plate. While most of the modern versions of Optimus prime has a open mouth. Also this version of Optimus Primal reminds me of a ninja.
I would like this guy a lot more if we could have gotten at least a *little* colour in bot mode. Hopefully there will be a cartoon colour scheme repaint down the line.
For studio series, it's only a small amount of Maximals in the film. The 4 you mentioned. The rest are reserved for later & other spin-off material. Same with the Predacons. To alleviate some concerns on that, we will get them later. It's not that they are being removed at all. It's that the material was rationed on what was usable here, and what had to be mitigated to save for later. Even Primal himself was a long debate on which one to use. B/c Ape primal was supposed to premiere in a different movie. Original ROTB plan/prequel side, was supposed to be Mammoth & Lion Primal. But then began the debate on the number of felines, between Cheetor & Tigatron too. So some concessions had to be made, with Beast Trilogy 2 having to adapt to still keep itself intact. Originally, Beast Trilogy 2 was supposed to be the first movie of the trilogy, so it went that one, to then flashback, to then finale of the trilogy. But due to internal issues & other problems, that plan had to be reversed with the prequel/flashback going first, to then 2. Which then caused a lot of development issues on what was originally first b/c of characters it needed. So that's going to be a whole debate to deal with. Especially as certain parties kept making threats to try to derail the trilogy, and other parties tried to use it as an excuse to force their way in to take over the trilogy & botch all future franchise plans. It's a whole issue that still needs to be remedied. Originally, the prequel portion of the trilogy was supposed to have more emphasis on JG1/Japanese Beasts & wider. But a lot got a bit skewed in those plans, including what the terrorcons are supposed to be. The intent was to never make them full on Heralds of unicron, but more like his "anti-bodies", with some caveats of older ones having evolved away from Unicron. Which was supposed to also tie into the origins of the Horrorcons that Quintessa uses. Nightbird was another hotly debated topic, because was slated for different future material which is why she was off-limits to Travis Knight, but instead of that, interference tried to force her used here to botch future plans with her. That one's easy to adapt to at least, since all that needs to keep those plans intact is a name change. But it still rather sucks that Knight got forced to not use her, simply for someone else to force it used here for no reason except to mess up future franchise plans in content. Ape Primal tho is an entirely different issue. He can't be written out of Beast trilogy part 2, so how to reconcile how he's used here, but still keep those vitally important scenes in the next installment intact is the heavy question. Same to how much the dynasty of the Beast lineage seemingly got disregarded too, instead of using it & what it represents, which is why Leo Primal & Mammoth Primal were important. But hey, adaptation is the name of the game. It wouldn't be transformers if it didn't have to constantly fix the mistakes others forced in for whatever reason. Still a shade annoying tho how "americanized" it is, when the brand should cater to the world. Not selectively focus on American elitism of their media. Fans have their faves from all over, and that should be celebrated. To be inclusive of all the lore & variations, not focus on solely one narrow branch. Also slightly miffed we're losing out on the Lio Convoy/LeoBreaker hybrid we were supposed to get with the prequel side of things. But that's discussions for another day after that problem spot can be removed from damaging any future works more than they already have been. Needless to say, there are parties that worked on ROTB that their services will never be used again on future works, and movie 2 is going to do its best to clean up any continuity issues to get things back on track to intent & direction. To not let interference & other ignorance run those plans into the ground & not let them damage longevity of the brand as a whole.
I just can't get into these movie beastformers. Maybe I'll change my mind when I see them in action but when you make your monkey look like a robot to begin with what's the point of him turning into a slightly less monkey-ish robot?
Idk man we need to see the plot first😂 Lets just hope the plot is as least tolerable lol. But i think if they make the beast mode completely organic looking... ugh... i dont think its gonna be easy. Its either gonna look disturbing or goofy in theory or idk. But it'll probably only look good in cartoon. Idk man
You're mistransforming Kingdom Primal. If you look at the ape buttplate it's molded to be transformed at a similar angle to the ROTB one's back, which gives him the more apelike silhouetted and also covers up the robot knees better, fixing much of the color problems.
Why do TF fans all abuse the term 'retool and heavy retool'? ROTB mainline Optimus Primal and Rhinox aren't heavy retools of the Kingdom versions. They're wholly new tools with similar engineering to Kingdom Optimus Primal and Rhinox!
That's because they don't actually know the meaning of the words they use. They parrot these widely-used terms because everyone is. It's even more embarrassing when Balt, a long-time contributor to the space, does the same. It really just adds to the "whiny ungrateful boomer" image he has. Or they're all just idiots.
@@magnolia549 Hasbro themselves rarely ever use that term. (They use terms such as 'partial or heavy partial' instead) Yet so-called fans love to abuse ‘retool and heavy retool’ without understanding what it means!
@@brooklynbud1138 You can't use the term 'retool or heavy retool' to a toy that's a wholly new mold, which doesn't barrow any tooling/parts of another toy. No one here's triggered; only correcting fans’ use of terms that are abjectly wrong!
I mean, the molding looks pretty good, and the posing seems par for the course. Tranformationnis about as uninteresting as one can expect from a primal. But I think the color scheme here really let's this figure down. You have good molding there. But this thing just looks boring with the complete lack of color, all that nice molding gets muddled together and lost amidst the charcoal gray and nearly identical silver.
Yeah, I've noticed that Balt does that a lot. And as a collector, who's been collecting and transforming these things since the 80's, it annoys the hell out of me when I see reviewers do this. They'll mistransform something and complain that it doesn't look right or that "the transformation is off", or they'll complain that there's no weapon storage when it's right. Fucking. _There._ It's like they don't even put an effort into anything anymore. That, and the fact that Balt _insists_ on saying 'Posts' instead of 'Tabs', is why I had to unsubscribe from his channel. People like me who've been doing this for quite a while can figure it out on our own. We'll see the review so we know what to do when we get the figure, so the fact that there's a fucking 'Tab' there instead of a 'Post' doesn't hinder us. But the people who are new to this might be expecting a 'Post' there instead of a 'Tab', so when they don't see one they might think they're doing it wrong and that the mistake is totally on _them,_ instead of on Balt for constantly mislabeling these things.
I dont understand how ppl see this as dull. Mainline prime was dull. This is ok. He got some shine in the plastic. Silver was shining. Black was on point. No boring grey like prime. He looks fine to me. I mean no way hasbroke gonna give us some premium finish eventho the price is some sorta premium right?
@@capness1228 Well i didnt say that. Its ok bruv some of us dont see gray as equal to dull but you do. And he's a live action gorilla robot. Like idk what other colour am i supposed to expect. And hey at least the grey here is not studio series rotf megatron dogpoop grey. THAT is 90% if not 100% lifeless, muted, boring grey
@@aimanhaqeem1362 Oh so your defense of the objectively boring colors for the transforming alien robot gorilla is... realism. I think we've found another definition of dull that applies here.
I'm not impressed with this or cheetor. Hasbro could have put better effort into being more BW accurate for the bayformer variants. Hell i would have accepted beast machines as a point of reference. This just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
