@@KIRKCOLLECTS ahah. I had to double check when I didn't find any result on steam. That game looks really special and I don't want to miss it. Thanks for the recap. Those events are a bit too big for my tiny brain :)
I hope that Agent 64 is popular enough to get a console release, because going through that entire game in co-op on a TV, will send me straight back to when I used to play TimeSplitters. Because TimeSplitters is awesome, and this is basically as close as I'm going to get to having another one. Of course if it doesn't get a console release, I don't mind hooking up a laptop to a TV. Also that Core Decay looks awesome. I just hope that there's an option to turn on bi-linear filtering for the textures. The game already looks really nice as is, but my preference is always bi-linear filtering (what can I say, I prefer smears to blocks), even more so once you realize bi-linear filtering is always on for the games that's it's taking inspiration from such as Thief and Deus Ex. If you're going to play on my nostalgia, you can't half-ass it by shoehorning in modern preferences.
Great one Kirk, ty. Nice to hear Aftershock made it and that Core Decay may get in reach. Kingpin leaves me with a little question mark over my head but Selaco will definitely rock.
Another top notch video from Kirk! I added a couple of games to my wishlist. But honestly, I'm getting a little bit tired of all those games releasing in Early Access or after a loooooong delay. I actually cringed when I saw "Delay fit for a king" in Ion Fury Aftershock trailer. So instead right now I decided to play some free mods for retro shooters. I finished "Marrow" episode for Blood, and it was so good I wanted to play some more Blood. So I decided to check "Fleshed Out" mod, and OH MY GOD, it is superb. Recommended for any Blood fan. I also downloaded "Venturous" TC for Doom, but only played one level, and it's also good as far as I saw.
The show was so big this time....omph. Bought Blood West 1 Day before, downloaded the Cultic Bonusmap instantly and bought the Iron Fury DLC instantly when it came out. Think i am busy for the next 2 weeks xD. A lot of the stuff in the show looked interesting, i think core decay and retrospace might turn into some interesting gems if they get them right.
I kind of appreciate the positivity because I pretty much buried PF after 5 minutes but I just don't see how the overall direction of that game is good. They seem to be heavily relying on the notion that Duke Nukem Forever style, more elaborate interactivity is something that people enjoy while in general that just doesn't seem to be the case for an FPS. When it comes to shooters unsurprisingly I like shooting stuff, navigating the environment, experimenting with my movement options or searching for secrets. Playing minigames, engaging in crane puzzles and turret sections are not in my top 100 preferred activities in a shooter so focusing on those while compromising things like levels design doesn't seem like a very solid pitch to me. It's just hard to imagine a DNF clone not being dead on arrival nowadays when there are so many more exciting options in the retro FPS scene, not to mention getting away from things like strictly linear level design being a fairly important part of the retro shooter "mission statement" in general.
funny thing about the kingpin remaster footage they showed where they were comparing the remaster to the original game both videos were of the remaster and not the og pc game lol
I know you've got your hands full with games to review, but if you could review Herald Of Havoc, I would be eternally grateful (if you haven't already). Game deserves a lot more attention than what it's getting.
As per usual, I find your takes to be some of the more balanced out there and less prone to over-excited hype or getting too "angry gamer" at things that disappointed *cough Phantom Fury cough*. I'll agree on the runtime being off. Every year I've found Realms Deep to be a bit of a crapshoot when it comes to run times. Is it over 2 days and 2 hours each? 3 days with varying lengths? One mammoth day at 4 hours? You never know beforehand and I ended up clock watching after the 2 hour mark. There is only so long you can hold the attention of aging folks who had one can of Monster for the memes before they start to think "I'm flagging. I have work in the morning. It's 1 am and I need to sleep."
Than you! I like to keep things entertaining and constructive, I’m glad it’s coming across that way. I’m curious to see what they do next year, I think it’s a good problem to have, it’s be fun to see it evolve into a big multi day event, like an indie E3 sort of thing.
Whenever I see that trailer for Wizordrum and that charging fireball in between the character's hands I think it looks like a small rotating cheese pizza.
But these games really show that you don't need cutting edge graphics to have a good time. If anything, low tier graphics just make it so that more people can play these games as most of them seem to be able to run on a potato.
Was given Aftershock as a gift recently 😊😊 Going through the original again, then the new campaign and arrange mode. Loving it so far, game feels great. Yep best one yet , Jared drinking the spoiled milk lol Looking forward to Project Warlock ch 2 and 3, the lost chapters and the full Forgive Me Father 2. Oh Core Decay and Graven too. Realms Deep 2023 was awesome 😎
Selaco support for steamdeck is something I want to see, but also seeing how the demo is suuuuper heavy and unplayable on the steamdeck they will have to do a lot of work to make it run smoothly. We seen this where a title gets “steamdeck compatible” badge, but most people don’t know that it doesn’t mean “runs well” it just means “it works”. Valve should really rethink how they use that verification as we got a looot (a lot lot) games that are 20fps stutterfest, but are “verified”.
By what metric is our current demo 'suuuuuper heavy and unplayable' on a Steam Deck? What version did you play? Because we have yet to receive complaints about the game being unplayable on a Deck. Most reports mention 40-45 FPS and that's in a build that's a year old.
Prodeus is a really well made shooter but i have to admit - i never finished it too. At the moment we entered the prodeus dimension the maps turned out so......weird for my taste that i lost interest in finishing it, instead i played 3 times through up to this point. Great to see that they turned away from the prodeus dimension into a completly new, more attractive setting.
KingPin Reloaded showcase was kind of a disappointment. There wasnt anything really new at all. But Graven is something im excited for. Reminds me of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.
Think the very first mod for Selaco I will either download or just make myself if no one else does it, will be a red blood mod. I'm just not a fan of the pink blood at all.
I am looking forward to KINGPIN, not because I will play it....I finished it 4 or 5 times. I bombarded 3D Realms on Twitter for years and I am sure that project will be delayed. Even if it comes out it looks like there is not much of a revamp going on there. GRAVEN looks good but the only game I am really interested in is SELACO. This boomer shooter thing isn't my cup of tea and not because I don't like them. It is over saturated with mediocre titles like Ion Fury etc. I played enough of them in the 90''s and 2000's ;)
Lot of cool trailers, but sadly lots of old shit is still unfinished. It is not a good sign, I understood that 3D Realms want to be publisher for those cool projects, but they lack actual milestones and management.
The only thing that bothers me is that these games take 3+ years to produce, and there are constant delays, yet 25 years ago a few sweaty nerds could make a game like this under a year.
Wow there’s a bunch there for me. Wizordum, Agent64, and Twisted Tower. So many boomers seem chaotic, I don’t need hoards, just some class level design and quirky things. I can’t stand linear story games like COD etc where you’re trapped into a sequence of play out mechanisms where nothing else works. And trying other things sometimes even glitch. Visuals over gameplay is a bad recipe developers have hunted for the last decade or more.
The perma death ruined project warlock 1 for me, turns each life into a fraction of your true health in what is just a roguelike where each chapter is a game. And considering how poorly designed the bosses are. Its like it doesnt want to ne played. A shame considering how pretty it is
What do you call "original"?! The last time I checked, the last thing gamers want is "originality". Every year they buy the same FIFA, the same COD, the same Assassin's Creed... Their definition of "a good atmosphere" is basically anything that looks ugly and dark. And as for gameplay... one button for light attack, one for heavy attack, a parry, a dodge roll and they'll sell their mom for a 7th sequel... So... What's your definition of "originality"? Another Dark Souls clone? Or a Doom Eternal clone in pixel art?
