run through of how to take apart the rear axel and bearings to replace the rear axel seal on an 80 series landcruiser. this process also involves re greasing the rear bearings.
Please note in this video i have installed the seal the incorrect way, Toyota seals usually go gold side out. i was not paying attention and put it back in the way it came out. with was incorrect.
(Please note I am not a qualified mechanic I just understand 80 series Landcruisers my videos are just what I do and how to do it if you follow them you do so at your own risk)

Good rule of thumb when packing bearings is to keep doing it until small beads of grease form on the other side, this way you can almost ensure that the bearing is completely covered head to toe in grease

Great video mate.. Small tip... To remove the oil and grease from your existing shoes, boil them in water with a strong detergent , eg Truckwash or even a strong household product. I have a gas ring but you can use the one on the side of your BBQ. Dont do it in the kitchen or your missus will turn you into a Eunuch..

Hi free thinkers, Toyota Landcruiser 1997 disc brake rear, not drum, 80 series, you have placed the bearing hub axle seal wrong install, back to front seal rubber faces out. If you fit new bearing cones always over tighten preloaded nut to make sure cones seat properly, did not bounce off shoulder, then back off & do correct pre load on bearing.

Hi free thinkers, 24-05-2022, if video 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser 80JHZ rear axle bearing replacement you installed bearing seal backnto front, the rubber faces out to backing plate. You can remove old seal use a punch on bearing to pop seal, you butchered the job? When you install new cones always over tighten pre load nut to seat cones incase cones not seated on shoulder, Bach off pre load nut & pre load bearing as per manufacturer instruction. You can use tension wrench to prevent incorrect tension on nuts & bolts. Take the video off platform, the comments not always viewed.
@caseydman4651
@caseydman4651 3 года назад
easy way to dislodge the cones is whack the ever living sht out of the center of that axle shaft where the dimple is, if you have an air hammer just hammer the center dimple and it all vibrates loose. you wont hurt the axle shaft by whacking it and make sure those nuts are on the end in case you miss
