I always thought removing the rear subframe would be extremely difficult to do at home. Turns out it's pretty easy, just time consuming.
While having the subframe out, I will be upgrading to solid diff and subframe bushings, a carbon driveshaft, titanium forward x-pipe, SPL kinematics and a 4.44 final drive from limitedslip.de. Super excited to see how the car performs after these mods!

Here's something essential for anyone doing this... depending on how you have the car supported on Jack stands, or whatever, place 200lbs of weight into the trunk before dropping the rear subframe to prevent the car from tipping over the supporting platform (if it applies to how you have the car supported)

This is courage! I did rod bearings, actuators, shocks, front suspension, SAP removal, valve covers, BBK, X-pipe & exhaust and intake myself, but for rear subframe I finally took it to the shop :)

can't wait to see the final result and how the car handles

Had my poly diff and solid sub bushings along with Cf driveshaft installed back in december. You're going to love how responsive the car feels. Solid work, love the content 💪🏾

did it make a difference in sound? like when you drive normally you feel like the car makes more clunky sound in the back. And did the carbon fiber driveshaft made a big difference?

@@stancuflorin what’s good Brody! Cf driveshaft was definitely worth it imo. The throttle response is so much better. I haven’t had much seat time since my install since I’ve been traveling with work.. but I do get a lil diff whine with the poly diff bushings. It sounds cool though lol.

@@RickySlickk glad to hear that everything is good with the car, hopefully with you as well. I got the short shifter a couple a months ago, and I love it, totally changes the feeling like you said. For now the gearbox is still working but planning to sell the car, and buy one with lower miles, and start the build on that one, kind of a track build for the Nurburgring. Also I want to pur a supercharger on it and I think I'm going with Infinitas since they are based in Europe. How about you, what are your future plans with the var in the future

@@RickySlickk did you upgraded the flywheel and clutch as well?

@@stancuflorin Nicee! The short shifter is definitely a must with 6mt. Glad you like it. I haven’t gotten to the clutch and flywheel yet. I’m honestly scared to do the flywheel cause of the chatter at idle 😅. It’s a daily driver and I’m not tryna scare the girls away lol

Hey Florians diff! My diff comes from him too. What a great upgrade it is 👌🏼 Youre gonna love it.

can’t wait to get mine installed. can you give some insights about your setup and also how it changed the driving and in general if the car became easier to drive or harder (in some scenarios such as breaking into a corner)?

Awesome job! Be prepared for a really loud diff whine with solid diff bushes! Solid subframe bushes you make the car feel sharper as soon as you put your foot down you'll feel exactly what the car is doing in the rear

i'd keep the aero pieces. i don't know for sure, but i'd speculate they are designed to kick air away from the rear wheel well area. you're gunna love the solid diff/sub bushings. i'm working through thinning some wiring right now.

Good point. I guess I'll reinstall those pieces for peace of mind. How's the wire thinning going? I need to do this as well down the line.

@@WillsGarageOfficial wire thinning is kinda fun. it was an intimidating job at first, but i'm enjoying the problem solving aspect of it. its like doing a puzzle... i think i'm almost stuck though... i need to do some coding before i proceed further. i also want to yank the hvac assembly. i'm really enjoying your vids. i just like to see people working on the innards of these cars. its relaxing.

As someone who is debating this job since my sf is toast, about how long did it take you?

Awesome vid man, have been following your how to’s for some time now. What xpipe is that? Also the video of the diy corner balance convinced me to pick up a setup since I have the quick Jack already. I need to loosen the subframe since it’s off center by a couple mm and it makes a big difference. Hopefully when you put yours back on it’ll be center. Just an fyi

Hey Chris, The xpipe is from Alibaba. I’ll share the details in a future video. Quick jack with the leveling pads must be awesome. I was wondering how centering the subframe works. How did you know it was off centered?

@@WillsGarageOfficialI’ve always ran staggered and when I switched to 10.5” squared the passenger side wheel is more sunken in than the driver side rear wheel. I’ve done measurements and the Spl arms are all even and should be good. Again this is just my assumption with why it’s causing the difference. Maybe something to keep in mind when putting the subframe back on. I’m going to be installing the MK rear bumpsteer roll center bushing kit eventually so I figure I’ll take care of it then. I don’t want to remove things twice. I still need to get the scales and hub stands before I try this so I can do my alignment right after.

I also have slight leak from the diff and for the love of god can’t figure out where it’s coming from. I had to replace one of the seals awhile ago, after each track day there is some liquid on the fins, but I can’t trace it.
