@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 5 месяцев назад
Glad I could help and well done! Sometimes I do put the socket and wrench sizes on. There are several reasons that I don't as a rule, but the most important is that the cheapest way to buy spanners and sockets is as a set, and I've found that putting the sizes on leads people to buying them individually - and I'm still using the same spanner set I bought nearly forty years ago. If you need to know a spanner or socket size because you are missing one that fits, just measure across the flats of the nut.

Hi David, greetings from Brazil! Your content ia absolutely rich and I am learning a lot. Thanks for share your knowledge. I have a question regarding the TFT display. I didn’t found any video related that and I believe that you faced the same issue that most of us: fog in the display. Do you have any tips to solve or minimize that? Also, could you prepare a content regarding that? Thanks
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 2 года назад
Thanks and hello to Brazil. Fogging in the TFT is not unique to this bike or even KTM. The TFT is not airtight so water can enter even as moisture in the air on a damp day. I don't think KTM have solved this even with several years of trying. I find there is can be a little water after riding in the rain, but it dries out when the weather improves. I have added it to my list. Thanks

@MotoMirius

Hi, it's an odd error to have pop up if all you have done is unplug the display. Could you have pulled the harness and disturbed another plug? Otherwise you might need to visit the dealer to have the code reset. Good luck with that.

I successfully taken off the rear wheel however whenever I attempted to put the wheel back on I cannot fully tighten the axel bolt because it tightens the rear wheel to the point it will not spin freely also makes the rear breaks feel funny
@MotoMirius

Yes, I have had that happen. You just need to make sure that everything is properly in place with the spacers in the right places and then it will tighten up properly.

Hey David, Best wishes for the new year! Had few questions: 1. What's the best way to align the rear wheel to avoid any wear & tear of the tyre? 2. Can I use silicon grease instead of lithium?
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 2 года назад
Hi and thanks. There are a number of ways to align the chain - KTM recommend using the marks provided for this purpose on the rear axle. Lithium grease is designed for lubcricating steel and mechanical parts. Silicon is for rubber and plastic - it does not have the mechanical strength for steel parts. Lithium is not ideal for plastic.

Seals that go on the axle come in contact with road grime, oil and hazardous chemicals. They're generally made of nitrile . Same with fork seals as they see oils and sometimes fuel. They're nitrile too. Lithium grease goes good with nitrile and neoprene. Silicone is generally used to natural rubber. We don't use natural rubber seals anymore because they would go bad within very few months. Here's my two cents! Cheers.

Hello David, I have a 2015 RC 390 and it ran 16000KMs, Chain and sprocket not changed yet. recently when rotating the rear wheel, the chain clatters hard on the swing arm, i have tried to matched the spacer alignment to almost identical, yet there is a wavy pattern in chain motion. The chain gets really tight on part of rotation then comes back to normal. Changed the bearing recently, yet its same. Any idea ?
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius Год назад
Sounds like it's time for a new chain. It's normal for old chains to have stretch in some parts and tighter spots elsewhere. Check also that the rear sprocket is not bent - but if changing the chain, sprockets should be changed at the same time.

hello moto mirius!!!! Can u tell me why a ktm 250 duke sometimes downshifting at low rpm stalls (only when the clutch is kept pressed)? Thank u very much
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 2 года назад
In my experience this happens when the clutch lever isn't pulled in enough (or not adjusted for clutch wear). The engine is designed to rev very quickly and also engine brake very quickly - Ready To Race. The problem with race oriented engines is that they stall very easily and are very lumpy at low revs. There are two solutions, which apply to all race engines - make sure that you pull the clutch in enough and don't run the engine at low revs - it isn't designed for it. Ever see a supercar in slow traffic? They don't flow with the traffic, they rev the engine and accelerate then brake heavily, then repeat. I have often stalled the engine under heavy braking or when trying to pull away at low revs.

I'm following this video to take my tire off so I can bring it to the mechanic and get an inner patch done where a nail went through. When I put it back together and put new grease on everything, does it need to be lithium grease on all of the parts that I will be re greasing.?? I'm doi.g this on the RC390 not the Duke
@MotoMirius

Ah, the grease debate! Personally I use a general purpose grease for this, but lithium based greases are becoming more popular for general purpose use - check the description on the grease as some are more specialist.

@MotoMirius

The function of the grease here is to allow the parts to slide together without damaging the coatings and it helps to prevent corrosion. The rear wheel has bearings which do all of the work - there is no friction on the axle creating heat.
