If you are a Reason user and you make combinators for your studio or for live performance, you have probably found that there are times when you want to limit what a knob or slider controls, or maybe you have wanted one slider or knob to control multiple components of your combinator or live rig, but have not been able to get Reason (#Reason12, #ReasonPlus) to do it. Well in this video I will explain several scenarios that you might have encountered and how to use Reason's combinator to help enhance your control over your gear or virtual synthesizers.

Nice video ! By the way, I just discover a shortcut. When a device is inside a combinator, you can right click and the parameter (ex: Level) and choose "map to combi control" and select the control that you want. (Ex : control 1) It doesn"t work for all the parameters but It could save some time

Yes, that is a great trick. I am aware of it… As you mentioned, it doesn’t work for everything that’s why I generally forget to mention it because half the time I just don’t use it lol but it is a good shortcut when it works. Thanks for the tip. I appreciate you, sharing! Hope you subbed to the channel I can always use some more folks who like Reason!! :)

Nice fundamental Combinator 2 tutorial. Good job. I have loads of Combi's.. Just finishing a 'UJAM Beatmaker Versus Series' So I have Circuits Vs Vice that both have KIT, MIX, Amount knobs for lots of instant change possibilities Crossfading each other with either use of RE Morfin XF or RE Executioner DJ Mixer. It works very well but although I cannot 'Cue' what's coming in there are 10 Kits to remember-ish per device so it's not a problem and nor is pitch control. Once I've done a mix into the Track Sequencer Lane I can then edit that and change the kit, mix or amount or whatever recorded automation I used, obviously. I can also add samples, synths, effects etc to this mixdown resulting in a DJ Tool Track/Song making process, if ya get what I mean. Circuit runs off one Drum Sequencer device that has 8 instrument lanes and 8 pattern slots. The 8 CV drum gate outs on the rear feed Vice via Robotic Bean's TM-1 Multiplexor. UJAM Beatmakers have 16 instrument lanes per device so I reduced it to 8 per device for less mayhem. Now, what you've explained in this video could be useful for the main components of both devices like KICK, SNARE, HI HATS to each share a knob to mix more or less of their corresponding values. So, for example, I would have Circuits on the left and Vice on the right of the same KICK mix knob so turning left would be less Vice kick. I need Coffee after explaining that for any new comers to Reason's Combinator 2 possibilities. It's Benson in disguise btw.. BIG UP!

@HOLLASOUNDS I have one I designed ready for the pro VS from Beringer. I’m selling it on Gumroad. I’ve already sold a few copies. I’ve also designed several combinations and given them away free and I’ve had hundreds of downloads of them. It’s not a dead technology by any means it’s just not all that obvious, and for some reason propeller head will let you sell fake synthesizers made with combat on their site, but they won’t let you sell combiners that utilize external hardware.
