Wow, this looks soo dope! Soooo this is what happens when Grain, ReCycle, and Dr OctoRex have a baby!?!? Aaaaah man, I love it! I can’t wait to use this later today! Thank you 🙏🏽!
I've been a drummer for 25 years and was introduced to Cubase when I was 17 but never got into it. I was then introduced to Reason and Logic when I was 19 and never got into those either. 13 years later and I somehow went absolutely crazy for Ableton and have been addicted to it for the last 4 years. I've just decided to check out the Reason plugin and MAN I wish I had explored it more when I was 19. Better late than never.....
@deathknell5167 yeah that makes a lot of sense. I was coming in as a live instrument performer so Reason use of practical plug ins just made so much sense to me. Ableton just felt very geared towards DJs and live electronic performance that it didn't clock with me.
@@felipefs106 it's missing pitch & bpm detection (especially in slice mode). you have to manually adjust BPM before loading it into the device, whereas serato studio and other samplers simply pitch it to your songs BPM
This is exactly what I had suggested not too long ago. We needed a flexible/modern sampler ala Ableton and bitwig. One of the few things I'm excited for. Lazy chop should be on the list of updates for mimic, lazy chop should be a feature for mimic. Read the sentence before this one Reason.
I’ll try to sum it up: It’s basically grain advanced. The sampler has no pitch recognition, so I need to know in advance what key my sample is in. As much as I like the functionality of this device, this is one important feature missing for a sampler. Imho. I was afraid, when they announced it, that this would be missing. I hope the new combinator is more thought through.
I definitely agree. I see myself using this as a compliment to Serato Sample, but not in place of it. I do really like the functionality and versatility though.
No it wont be. I think is because they just keep missing things. Simple things that get pretty importantly. The shame is they never fix missing bits. The good news is that it looks pretty cool.
Reason is one amazing DAW... They make the software feel like your in a real studio, and mimic is a very good addition to the reason family... I hope to god within the future of Reasons DAW THEY CHANGE THE THEMES IN THE D.A.W AND SEQUENCER AND MIXER but the overall D.A.W is amazing!!! I love it they are one of the leaders in the industry!!!🔥🔥💯💯
They could’ve basically added these new features on the NN-XT and redesigned it. Slick marketing at it’s finest people love new things I guess 😂😂😂. When they add VST 3, a new sequencer, midi routing, update the piano roll, add better editing features, performance and functionality I’ll be back. Until that happens I’ll be in Ableton using the Reason Rack.
I was skeptical of what this new sampler would entail but gotta say I'm very impressed. 7 things I was very much hoping it had and 4 (3 of which NN-XT doesn't have) I know it has from this video:- Playing a sample up and down the keyboard without it changing speed, layering samples and transient detection with sensitivity. I now need to find out if the other 3 are there - tempo detect, tempo match and key detection but doesn't immediate seem so at first glance. However, if these features aren't in Mimic, it could be rectified if in Reason 12 you add tempo detect, tempo match and key detection of audio in the sequencer and allow to be easily just dragged into Mimic.
@@nomesigas681 Yeah so now you need to open Grain and drag the sample in there first and then close Grain and open Mimic and drag the sample in there so then you know it's key, what a ballache.
There is no other Music making software like REASON on this Planet. Period! - From a 20+ years reason user. (Although I only use it as a Rack Plugin / REWIRE)
I seriously Hope Reason Studios develop some hardware to control the Reason Universe. It’s the missing piece to complete the picture. It would be a game changer. I could possibly forgive the omission of VST3 compatibility if this were to happen, and gladly stay within the Reason daw. But until then, it’s still Ableton and push for me. This sampler “Mimic” is very impressive though. Very similar to Abletons “Simpler”. Mimicking it 😁 Reason still in the game.
Lol seriously? I’ve been using the rex player to do this for years. I use reason as my main daw and have used rex to chop samples for many years to write Lofi and chilhop. I’m disappointed because propellerhead are always behind the times. There are many other much better vsts which do more advanced stuff.
It's not the same, you can't control 8 different samples at the same time cause you will need 8 serato sample to do so !!! they have 4 functions in 1 machine and 5 algorithms along each type of use ... relax, serato sample can't do that
@@eddrupz1805 I never forced my self to use chaotic method of work to be cool … I used Ableton and simpler doesn’t offer the 8 slot’s individually ! As I may remember using 10 trying to switch DAW’s but Ableton is complex for no reason and have a lot of limitations ! It’s popular because it’s Easily crackable like bitwig by the way… And just the name of the second one doesn’t give me feel to make music … Bit-what?
Hey ryan. Has anyone actually mentioned before that you are amazing ? Oh. it has happened yet? Never mind. I haven't done it yet. So I do: YOU ARE FANTASTIC. Your videos too. oh. that rhymes ryan :-)
@@Notacet What if you wanted to change the parameters for some of the samples? This is where a link box would come in handy. A modifier key could work but would probably change all parameters at once.
A sampler in 2021 without pitch detect and daw tempo sync? No per slice sample edit? I don't think reason programmers know what sort of competition is out here. Disappointing to say the least.....reason 12 is looking like it should have been reason 11.4. so much noise for so little.
First 30 seconds got a like from me! "I don't use samples ^^;;" I stayed away because I saw way too many songs that were nothing but Dr Rex stock clips. It made me fear that if I wrote something bad, people might tell me it sounds good just because of the samples. I obviously came here with an open mind. After watching this video I am DEF going to give mimic a try!
I think Reason Studios always nails the design of their devices. They look modern but also carry a lot of character. I also like Abletons design language but they just don`t have so much character to them. Great job Reason Studios!
So the design does it for a good job? I feel there is a lot of essential functions missing. But the most important in 2021: pitch recognition. Most samplers can tell you what key your sample is in. This is just “nice” or average.
@@therealdevillion to be fair the NNXT has had basic pitch detection for over a decade, the sequencer has had more advanced pitch detection for several years now. If the sample you have is a load of notes all at once, then apps/VSTs like Melodyne are the best option.
@@therealdevillion by design I mean the look of the device, not necessary the feature set. and yeah regarding the look I think Reason does an excellent job. Modern, but still characteristic. Ableton has excellent features but their whole UI looks flat and surgical. I miss pitch recognition too, weird that Mimic doesn`t have it but grain does?!
@@WyattLite-n-inn Arcade provide samples and have onboard FX that I can replicate with Re’s and VST’s that I already own ! The samples aren’t that crazy i have also a Splice Account where I can get my samples or chop my own RAW material and process it the way I want ! I was there for just the vocal samples! That I always Bounce to audio and reuse them in Reason DAW my way Now that i can do what Arcade does more easily and freely man ! That’s it I am against have to pay monthly for programs ! It’s a monthly paid VST that in a year cost me 120$ the price of a point update in reason ! I hate being connected to internet to make music ! I hate distraction
@@DeejayAfro Whoa, that’s a good synopsis! Thanks for that .. I never heard that about Arcade but it sounds right . But Reason is now subscription also if you get the +version
@@WyattLite-n-inn I am in a country where already 100mb of internet cost 50€ euros/month and doesn’t work right and I cannot change the modem due to restrictions and closed technology format, I also travel a lot and work sometimes in areas where I cannot have access to internet, and also I prefer to pay full price and own my stuff to open whenever I want rather to get a constant ping from computer to servers just to use a program ! My daily job is being an IT, I have sufficient troubles the servers at work, I need a stable and local computer license to do my music :)
I just bought Reason 12 yesterday after seeing all it has to offer now. I'm a 36 year old going back for his Masters degree, so I got Reason+ 12 for only $99. Reason 3 was my first DAW I bought back in 2007. I learned so much from it. I had only used things like the Korg Triton before that, but that keyboard wasn't mine, so I had to part ways when I left my parent's house after high school. I only switched from Reason to Reaper in 2009 because Reason 3 didn't allow audio recording at that time. I've went through a ton of DAWs since then. Currently using Pro Logic X since 2018. But I'm happy that I've decided to switch back to Reason. And so happy I can now use all my plugins with it, as well all my outboard synths and drum machines. The reason why I also love Reason is the built-in SSL like mixer. I don't like using so many plugins. I value being able to mix on a board. Rather it be analog or a built-in one that resembles an analog one. Which is one of the reason why I used Cakewalk Sonar for years (in the past before switching from PC to Mac).
Reason needs to address in a post or newsletter ASAP about VST 3 implantation cause I'm about to jump ship after15 years of dedication. I'm sick of getting professional level plugins that are incompatible.
I really like this. Can I dump in a whole song and select random samples to play up and down my keyboard a la serato sample? I'd love this if it had pitch detection too, but either way this is a solid addition to my workflow when the upgrade drops.
@Reason Studios, is it possible to record directly into the device (sample from live source and save the sample), or drag recorded material from an audio lane within the reason song, or sample from a reason device in the same track/song?
Great instrument / sampler thanks for it! Hope the new update has a browser folder remember function the only feature that i am missing it's a deal breaker for me.
Hi gang....so here's the million dollar question. Is Mimic (finally!!) something that replaces Recycle? It has always bugged me that with everything Reason can do now, you STILL need to spend extra to get Recycle, instead of it simply being part and parcel of the Reason DAW. Cheers all...! 👍🙂
@@suryadnb I so agree, mate. Though I'm so used to Reason that I can't possibly change all my habits and workflow (and convert 1,500+ songs...) all of a sudden, or just because they're too lazy to give (sell) us features and tools that other DAWs have. I was just making a bad, sillly joke - as Reason is tending to be, year after year. This brand new sample player is coming only 10 years too late after all, and the browser doesn't seem to be revolutionary either. Well, who knows what they're going to give (sell) us with Reason 13... Maybe MIDI multichannel ? MIDI input routing per channel, like Reaper and others already have since ages ? Or CV/MIDI/other tools natively, without us having to purchase a specific Rack Extension each time ?
Yes finally, I didn't want to leave you we have a great bond, Im not gonna lie i cheated i tried Serato Sample but i really want you i promise to never open Serato sample again just promise to be good to me ill spend all my money on you...
Nice feature. Wish I could try it out. Can't log into reason to run it... "server problem". So much for the inexpensive "trial" of Reason+. Maybe next time don't oversell your capacity?
Thank you for this, I've always used NN-XT as my default sampler (mostly because I was using an older version of Reason) and just started messing around with Mimic recently. This is a huge help. I've always loved that weird chopped up vocal sound but could never quite get it to the point I was shooting for, so now I'm super excited to get in and try these techniques out.
You can get Reason 12 with Reason+, however the new Combinator is not released yet. Otherwise, Reason 12 will be available for purchase on September, 1.
@@Caelo_music Did they make changes to the Piano Roll and sequencer. If not I am out. I have been using Reason since Reason 4 but they have nothing to aid the workflow in years. The Piano Roll is light years behind the opposition. I am getting the impression that they seem Reason now as an alternative Kontakt player/VST hybrid not as a Standalone DAW.
@@Stevethesearcher No changes to the Sequencer or Pianoroll. Maybe they will introduce some smaller workflow enhancements with the official release on September 1. But I doubt it. Seems like they focus more on the Rack and different devices instead of the Sequencer or Mixer. :)
@@Caelo_music Thanks for your reply. So far I have heard nothing in Reason 12 that interests me. Unless they have a few surprises up their sleeves I wont be getting Reason 12
Exactly the right idea! Rolling your own samples and achieving that type of sound means you can sound unique and have control over the samples in cool ways. Have fun with it! I sure have been. /ryan
No. As far as I understand from the video is you have to know the key in advance to set it up. I think this device is nice, but if am the pitch recognition is missing again it’s just average and behind standards.
I made the subscription today, downloaded it, but now it don't work with Win 7, 64bit :-( Will unsubscribe now and use the version 10, witch i bought. On the website they write: - Windows 7 or later (64-bit)
Can you help me fix it my Reason 12 by TeamViewer ? Because I cannot open Reason 12 and always show me this unexpected error also need promession for Propellerhead Software
So, instead of adding ReCycle to Reason for free ...you made us all pay for outdated tech, then revamp it and charge more money 💰 I will no longer be supporting Reason
I'm demoing Bitwig and I'm very impressed compared to this over priced and outdated Reason junk. The HD feature is garbage, the new sampler nothing special. Bitwig looks HD and sounds great, I also have no issues with VSTs in there too. It's missing a couple of features I wished it had, but at least I feel the company care about improving it not just grabbing cash.
Why does the loop x-fade control disappear when you switch the stretch mode to vocal? It makes it difficult to find a loop point that doesn't produce an annoying click. Is there some other way to get usable loop points with vocal stretching mode?
This is cool. A lot of potential and useful features. But, I’m seeing a lot missing with the slice feature. Like being able to play each slice across the keyboard, being able to bend/stretch and shorten each slice. And being able to control the left and right start/end markers with a mid encoder is missing. This is what makes sampling in maschine super human fast. -and there’s no pitch/key detection for samples you drag in. This is cool. But still no reason to use this over Maschine, serato sampler, or the studio one sampler xt….yet I hope you guys bring in people who actually slice and chop and manipulate sample slices as a major part of their hip hop production to help. It seems like Reason didn’t do that.
OMG, I think this could be the sampler of my dreams. I am really liking it. I use Bitwig as my main DAW so it looks like I might need to buy the Reason Rack Plugin if I want to have it. If I buy the Reason Rack Plugin, will mimic come inside of it already for full unadulterated use or do I have to buy mimic separately from the Reason Rack Plugin?
I do love samples... I'm into Jungle and DnB. Btw The Prodigy their tracks are 80% samples....and they are one of the best! Imo if your track sounds good.... it's good.... don't care how you got there...for my sake use dog shit....but making music has millions of ways to get a track right... including samples.
Reason is the perfect tool to nerd out with! I love making my own samples & then manipulating them so I can throw them in Dr. Octo Rex. Mimic looks like an incredible way to enhance this process!
i dont know about mimic it seems like very unintuitive. theres got to be a better way. I remember there were combinator patches back in the day that would chop up vocals, I think it was reason 3 or 4. it was fast, but not as good results. this process takes forever and requires a lot of skill.
If only Reason would add that drag zooming into the sequencer that would be amazing. I mean, obviously you'd have to hold shift or cntrl or something, but still.
Right!? That's sorta how I felt when I started messing with it too - and why I opened my video with admitting my truth that I don't mess with samples as much as I probably should (and now will with Mimic). Good luck!! /ryan
Id loooove to offer this up against Serato Sample. Not sure how it would fair... Using samples, as a turntablist, is vital. all be it, these days my own samples. But Serato was affordable and has been f ing great,...hands down an amazing tool, intuitive and easy. And Mimic looks to deliver the same, with all the sick ass RS nobs and buttons and control, and in HD. Its a pretty expensive switch to make, even for a R11 irl user.
Fantastic software but I just realized that Reason can't auto save your projects, absolutely wrong, step back, I was thinking seriously in switching from Ableton To Reason + but this bad emotion is dangerous, In Ableton I'm used to concentrate in making music not in have the panic to save every time I do something new, definitely step Back reason; that's why I don't use Reason for serious musical projects.
This is a really interesting plugin.. however, the LoopCloud I found really difficult to navigate, and the videos on their youtube site, and sparse and don't explain enuf.. when I watched that LoolCloud video they brushed over a lot.. my LoopCloud, the latest 6.2.3 doesn't look exactly like his in the loopcloud video. for example, he loaded a sample, it appeared on my screen very narrow, and on his screen it was twice as high.. NOT a single mention of how to change that.. So, in short, LoopCloud app has a lot of learning curve.. maybe you folks are a lot smarter than I am.. but how can you explain a new app and you assume your audience are all professional music producers; what about us newbies, do we matter?
Just wondering... Do you use the VIP software with your Advance? Pretty solid vocal flip, btw. I use Serato Sample when not on one of my grooveboxes, but it's missing a lot of these features found in Mimic.

Hi ! We are making Live performances, we are seriously thinking to use reason. Can you tell us please, Is there any way to load an specific combinator (from Specific path) through MIDI? Thank you.
