Reason 6 introduces three new creative effect devices: Pulveriser, Alligator, and The Echo. In this micro tutorial we'll take a look at the Pulveriser. Pulveriser is a sound demolition unit capable of destroying your signal but before you turn those knobs up to eleven, I wanted to show you that Pulveriser also excels at being an audio sweetener. In today's world of pristine digital recording, meticulously sampled instruments, and quantized MIDI it's sometimes necessary to add a little color and grit to your otherwise perfect material.
Pulveriser can do that for you. So before you blow up your sound with Pulveriser, take a look at some of the other ways it can make your tracks sound more analog, more beefy, more gritty... more Pulverised!

It’s 10 years since this video and I STILL use pulverizer. I use it on my master send effects as a harmonic saturation.

That effect from 4:56 on is a preset for Pulveriser that uses the Comb Filter setting with one of the knobs tweaked up high. I'm pretty sure it's in the factory soundbank. The loop is a conga loop to make the sound.

Sure. His name is Frank and I'll send him an email telling him. He'll be very sad, though, because I write the scripts and he does the voice over reading of it. So maybe you actually mean to tell ME that I'm not funny... in which case, message delivered! I have a whole other routine that's much edgier, sorta Chris Rock meets Andrew Dice Clay, but they won't let me use those jokes in these videos. ;)

Pulverizer rules. Easily one of the most versatile and usable devices in reason. One question...what preset is that "ebid-deep" sound?

Actually what you're pointing out is something we've solved with Rack Extentions. Developers are constantly having to revisit their VSTs because of the way VST and AU requires developers to update the plugs to support OS level changes and CPU changes like multi-core technology, for example. Rack Extensions are "do once" endeavors because of the way we take care of future compatibility. In fact, it's the only technology that means developers DO NOT have to revisit their work after publishing it.

@aroflex11 I'm not sure I fully understand your question but in Reason 6 you nolonger need to disable/bounce/stretch/etc. You just scissor your audio clip to a known length and then hold down option (alt on windows) and click the right handle of the region to stretch it to any length you want. So if you clip out what you know is a 4 bar audio clip and then stretch it out to four bars long, it'll be the right tempo.

@aroflex11 If you timestretch it will keep the correct pitch. No chipmunk effect. In fact if you haven't heard the timestretch algorithm in Reason, it's AWESOME! Very artifact free and natural.

@dutchog1 you can certainly upgrade from 2.5 to 6. You could even upgrade from 1 to 6. No prob. It's not the disc you'll need. It's the registration. If you've registered your 2.5 software when you got it, you'll be fine.

@VTOLKits Yes it's stereo. I didn't get into it in the tutorial but there's a button called "spread" on the tremolo section which changes the oscillation from a mono up/down to a stereo left right movement. So the volume tremolo would pan back and forth instead of fading in and out. Pretty groovy in headphones.

@ElectrizCity There is workarounds for all of them, which you could download for free so sorry! Nor has Propellerhead addressed or answered one of my questions themselves. Like I said I am glad they made these as they have great uses that's for sure but you are not gaining much but 64-bit and Transpose if you already have the Reason/Record Duo. And you said it best you think you are getting a bargain, I believe if I was a sole Reason with no Record user this upgrade makes the world of difference

@Capecodone If you don't have Record, yet. I think you can take advantage of the crossgrade grace period upgrade. You get Record for Reason owners, it comes with an upgrade to Reason 5... and you get a free download upgrade to R6 on release. But please check those details on our website to confirm as I'm not the expert on the upgrades and grace period stuff.

@thenewrevolution100 Nope. That's the beauty of Reason 6. Record is going away. Everything is now inside Reason. No two programs. No wondering which program gives you what devices. It's all under one roof... and a very powerful creative roof I must add. :)

@astrophonix You can still run it as 32bit. From what I understand, the Mac installer will just know which one to run and the Windows installers will have separate 32 and 64 bit installs.

@WarlordofDoom1994 if you hold down the option key while clicking on the knob you want to automate it will create a lane for it in the sequencer.

@PropellerheadSW Yeah, I forgot about that. It is nice. You can't put it inline as a device though, so it is kind of limited as to when and how you can use it. But I do like it.

It should be a free upgrade for Reason and Record user but if you only have Reason or Record separately it should be the price listed. I love it in Beta testing especially this little effect redid a bunch of old tracks with it and transposed some sampled song I haven't got to finish but will forever feel like Reason 6 is owning the Reason and Record users as there is a work around for just about everything. So @PropellerheadSW do you have a reason justifying why Record/Reason users get the shaft

@sonnybrown If you guys haven't tried the EQ in the big modeled mixer that was in Record and now is in Reason 6, then I think you'll like it. At least for me, it's my favorite EQ by far in Reason.

The best part of this entire video was the "envelope follower" definition: 2) someone who follows mail trucks. I could not stop laughing. Awesome video. I really REALLY love the drums from 4:56 onwards. How did you get it to do that?

I'd LOVE if they improved the EQ device, cuz it gets kinda irritating using more than 3 EQ devices for 1 synth, since the parametric knobs seem to be the only useful ones.

@Hejzwej To make complete cuts you should use the Vocoder on Eq Mode. It can work as a band isolator.

@illDiology Reason has been able to take audio inputs since version 5, and it has Line 6 amp simulations, so guitars sound great through it. With 6 you get the SSL 9000 mixer, which is a huge step up from the Mackie 14:2. You will be able to pulverise your guitar with total impunity! I really want to hear how it handles that volume-dependent tremolo rate on my guitar!

Many VST developers are already developing devices for our Rack Extension technology. Some are ports of VST plugins, some are new devices unique to Reason! i've been using Reason since V5 with Record. And I hv never seen a need to buy or download a single additional plugin at any point. And i dont hv any project without the Pulverizer! Q: Is the pulverizer a good alternative for the glue compressor 2 b used on channel inserts?

On my cinema display, Reason's instruments and effects are small, and the controls are sometimes hard to read. I'm new to Reason, and I haven't found a way to enlarge the rack items. I'm guessing it's not possible since I can't find this in the manual or online. Please let me know if there's a secret shortcut for this. Thanks!

@mafoo17 well, that was kind of an exaggeration, but if I want to (for example) entirely cut out the low end, I usually have to make more than one device. The pitiful range of the knobs is like running with frozen joints.

Think about it, the update from Reason+Record to Reason 6 is $99. We get three brand new effects modules, that's $33 dollars each. Paid VST plugins can go into the range of $50-$200. I think we're getting a bargain, stop complaining about the upgrade and just accept it for what it is!

The whole POINT of Reason is that it's an all inclusive package If you want to use external plugins, rewire it with another DAW. I master all my Reason projects in PT anyway

As Reason 6 is 64 bit, will it still run OK on a 32 bit computer? I really want to upgrade, but am worried it might be too much for my machine to handle.

okay can somebody help me. i want to change the rate of the tremolo while recording. i am using the effect on an octo rex drum loop and i want the changes i make with the tremor rate to be recorded. i know you can record things like modulation and pitch changes, but how do i do this with the rate.

It sounds like formant filter linked to a square lfo with the pulveriser volume tremor happening on top of it.

Samuel Hanna scratch that. I think you can see the settings of most of the pulveriser at 4:26. try copying that resonance setting and the putting the filter before the dirt/squash sections
