Reasons to buy a RACE BOAT for a CRUISING HOME
A lot of people are curious as to why we chose a race boat for a family cruiser.
They've been asking us things like what it’s like to sail, whether we can manage it just the two of us, how she behaves on a passage, what the costs are like.
We don’t have all the answers as we haven’t had the boat that long, but in this video we want to share with you what we’ve learnt so far.
In the last video we talked about the 5 biggest disadvantages of choosing a race boat for a cruiser. In this video we will share with you what we think are the 5 biggest advantages.
We aren’t the first to turn a race boat into a cruiser and we won’t be the last. For example, the Palmer family turned an 80ft whitbread yacht into the beautiful cruiser called Camara that you check out on their RU-vid channel "Camara sailing". Then there’s the Duracell project which is Mike and his wife restoring the boat that American sailor Mike Plant raced in the first Vendee Globe in 1989. You can see more about them on their RU-vid channel "The Duracell Project".

Caio! We are Timo and Jo, an Italian and English couple with countless ocean miles under our belts, including sailing half way around the world from Europe to Fiji!
Last year we bought an Open 66 ft race sailing boat originally designed and built by the famous Hungarian sailor Nándor Fa, which he raced in the 1990 and 1992 Vendée Globe (round the world single handed race known as “the Everest of the seas”), becoming the first non-frenchman to finish the race.
We are currently in Fiji giving this old gladiator a new lease on life, transforming her from an ex race boat to a performance family cruiser, which we'll need to make both dog and baby proof! We’re planning to set sail again in Oct 2022, so with limited time&money we have plenty of challenges ahead to turn our dreams into reality&get back on the water!
Subscribe to our channel&track our progress as we release videos about our journey as well as "how to" videos about anything boat related.
Never stop to dream, never stop to sail!
