Ciao! We're a sailing family pursuing an unconventional dream of converting an ex Vendée Globe Open 66 race boat into a fast family cruiser. We're an English (Jo) & Italian (Timo) couple with countless ocean miles under our belts plus our son Nemo & furry son Solo.
Our sailboat NV was originally designed, built & raced by famous Hungarian sailor Nándor Fa. He competed in her in the 1992 Vendée Globe (round the world single handed race known as “the Everest of the seas”), finishing 5th, becoming the first non-frenchman to finish.
We're giving this old gladiator a new lease on life, transforming her from an ex race boat to a performance family cruiser. After a 2 year refit in Fiji we're now continuing our circumnavigation and refit on the water!

Are you sure Timo isn't a Rachman Landlord in disguise transported to living offshore in 21st century? It sounds like he wants to squeeze x berths into a very inaccessible part of the boat, in my view there isn't the volume.
We decided to spend the night a couple times at those deserted islands you passed to break up the trip from Fiji to Indonesia. We weren't questioned at all by border patrol until we were almost to Saumlaki Indonesia. Those fishing nets suck!!
Ah nice! Yeah we heard a few people doing this and we actually wrote to the Australian Border Control to ask about where we could and couldn't anchor and they showed us the restricted zones. But in the end we had such good wind conditions and we were quite worried about doing something wrong during the anchoring that would result in such catastrophic results for Solo that we decided would be safest for us just to keep going...
Joanna, I would advise the enthusiastic skipper to focus on new sails, engine and water maker before he starts cutting up the boat. Also, kudos to the crew for a proper cleaning of the cockpit.
EXCELENTE NAVEGACION CAPI !!!!! LES MANDO UN GRAN SALUDO A TODA LA FAMILIA Y TRIPULACION DESDE LATITUD 34 S. ARGENTINA BUENOS VIENTOS !!!!! VIVA ITALIA MARADONA MESSI Y VALENTINO ROSSI !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Marco Aurelio
@@SailingNV be my guest, as a content creator I know the importance of a good thumbnail 👌 I am only just tuning into you guys, I am so envious, I have a 30ft cat, I can't wait to do some cruising in August, I'll be heading up to the Whitsunday Islands...
Cut the net don't think twice the balance of being a nice man and a captain are not one in the same you are with your family and there net made for a job cut the net with no time for talk they loose a net better then you losing a boat or crew or family
@SailingNV you can tell I work on boats and I am certified as an instructor 32 and under but the lessons I learned from many captains I will pass to another captain and another time
Yes definitely not something to be done on the road. Duracell are awesome, but our plans are kind of different in that we're aiming more for speed than comfort ;)
Great feeling of sailing speed captured some wonderful plans for the future the best ones come at times like these just have write them down or forget them these days.
Thank you for putting a big, long smile on my face - pls. take care that there is no access to heavy tools for Timo during passage, you might once wake up and he already started the next transformation. Cheers from Bavaria!
While I admire your tenacity guys. I see living spaces and livibility so compromised, as not to be feasible as a home. Unless and its a huge caveat, you were able to buy the boat for practically nothing and the only equity you put in was sweat. In which case. Well done on being able to convert a pure racer into something that meets your needs. It ain't pretty. But if it works well enough, its an achievement. I haven't watched the channel for a long time. Mainly because your murdering of the English language was impeneterable and make me want to pierce my own ear drums. But, I can now watch without wishing for subtitles, which is something I never thought I'd see. I fervently hope that your journey lives up to your expectations :)
Hey Mike, the boat was pretty cheap, but of course some of the parts that we needed to refit weren’t … eg the rudder bearing! We’re going to make a video about costs soon so stay tuned :) yeah we understand the comfort levels wouldn’t be for everyone, but they’re good enough for us :) and totally worth it to get to surf across oceans at 20kts 🥳🤙 haha love that you can now watch without the need for subtitles 😉 you’re learning timo-glish 🤣
