On the move! Sailing again
After a broken gearbox left us stranded in an island paradise (Musket Cove) for the last couple of months… this week we are finally on the move again!
Last week we installed the replacement part (the damper plate) for our gearbox, but were finding it so difficult to get the engine back onto the sail drive that we began to wonder if we’d got the wrong part…
In the end we took the engine completely back out and started afresh with help from our good friend Don with magic hands who patiently rotated the gear shaft as Timo pushed the engine to ensure that the splines from the shaft were lined up correctly.
With our engine working again, it meant it was finally time to hoist the sails and leave this little slice of paradise… but not before one last celebratory evening on shore…
Here on the left is our favourite island bar, which is exactly as the name implies - a bar, built on a mini island of sand, and somewhere we’ve spent many nights making fun memories
Time to say goodbye for now to Musket Cove - I’m sure it won’t be the last time we visit this very special place.

Thanks a lot to @bulaKurt for the drone surf shots of Don and to @wildernessofwaves for some of the nice shots of us on the sandbar

Caio! We are Timo and Jo, an Italian and English couple with countless ocean miles under our belts. We're refitting an ex Vendée Globe Open 60 race boat originally designed & built & raced by famous Hungarian sailor Nándor Fa. He competed in her in the 1992 Vendée Globe (round the world single handed race known as “the Everest of the seas”), finishing 5th, becoming the first non-frenchman to finish.
We are currently in Fiji giving this old gladiator a new lease on life, transforming her from an ex race boat to a performance family cruiser, which we'll need to make both dog and baby proof! We’re planning to set sail again in Oct 2022, so with limited time&money we have plenty of challenges ahead to turn our dreams into reality&get back on the water!
Subscribe to our channel&track our progress as we release videos about our journey as well as "how to" videos about anything boat related.
Never stop to dream, never stop to sail!
