As a high school child, I was at a classmate's house who had a Loquat tree in fruit. Never tasted them before that day. We sat on the chook house roof and ate every ripe Loquat. I had a gut's ache for 2 day's and the shit's for 2 day's more. Didn't put me off the. Now I'm 68 and every time I see a tree in fruit I eat my fill. Yummmmm, Yummmmm.,

I agree George, they are very attractive-looking trees, worth growing just for the ornamental value. They can even grow here in the UK, I may never get fruit from it, but that doesn't bother me.

Correction... they don't even really require water or light. Found like 80 growing in my forgotten compost box about 2cm apart in pitch black and total dryness, about 8 inches tall, too. I live in Los Angeles, I have a buddy with one on his hilcrest and it never gets anything besides rain (not often).

I had to try to plant this tree 2x, the first one died, the second one kinda of struggle a little during the summer due to the over heating in Northern California but eventually once the root systems take hold, it seem to grow fast.

Once established, loquat is bullet proof. Keep soil moist in summer.

Some say that they are an are invasive weed, whereas I say that would be far better than all the rainforests that were cleared around the country for grazing livestock.

Thank you for sharing your experiences and I can hear in your comments how you respect the loquat trees! I bought some fruits from a farmer in Naples Italy and the fruit were the size of eggs. I planted a bunch of these seeds and now I have about 15 baby plants¡ 😂😅.

Before you plant the seeds, taste the fruit first. It will give you an indication of the end product. Always ask before taking, its the right thing to do.

Interesting info and examples. Got my first fruit this yr on substantial young (4" trunk) 'Champagne' loquat, maybe I'll have invasion of new trees under it. 9a low inland N. Commifornia. Avos have far superior fruit you can nearly live on, not comparable to loquat in that respect.

I’m in coastal Denmark, my garden’s microclimate is 8b, I’ve got 2 loquats in the ground grown from seed since 2016 I don’t have fruit, I’m growing them for the looks. I reckon I possibly could get some flowers this year, the size is right. They already started growing again in March. 1 of the local nurseries started stocking plants 2 years ago. You can hardly ever buy the fruit, other than online.

Will loquat fruits ripen after i cut them ? The birds love to eat them but when i taste it its still sour.
@RealLifeFruitopia
@RealLifeFruitopia 7 месяцев назад
You have to bag them to get maximum ripeness. Also, refrigerating them makes them super tasty.

The Loquat’s are an invasive weed’s in Australia they come up in our bush. You need to net the trees when fruiting.

They can but usually, the fruits are a bit on the sour side if the area is truly tropical (never drops below 15 C) they can survive in zone 8B (down to -9C) but can fruit properly only in Zone 9 (and above)
