I have to use hairsprays that are gritty in addition to little claw clips to get & maintain any root lift and/or curl. My hair is that soft slippery texture that wants to lie flat. So I use products that texturize that area & it helps. Also, finger coiling a few clumps right at the root helps me.
All great tips. Especially the gritty hairsprays. I love sprays with grit because I also have slippery hair. I’ve been buying and trying a ton of sea salt sprays lately for an upcoming video and I’ve been loving playing around with them! I’m pinning your comment for other fine, slippery haired curlies to find. As always thank you for watching and commenting and sharing! I appreciate you sticking with me all this time!
Grit makes a big difference for me too. I spritz my roots with Boldify thickening spray (magnesium sulfate, sea salt, and light hold) just before the final fluff, although I'm moving it to before scrunching on Michelle's advice. I also liked the Living Proof volumizing hair texture spray, but it had less grit and the smell of the propellant lingered for a long time.
Chelle, what about stringy hair at the roots? Will this work? I have been experiencing hair thinning due to menopause. I notice minimal curl at my root. Can you make a video on older hair and thinning hair ? I love your videos, very informative.
I tried a little sea salt spray in addition to my regular stylers last wash day and I got great curls that lasted, but I also got a gel cast so strong that no amount of scrunching with or without oil broke it up completely. 😄 It finally got softer (but still with good curl) this morning. But I went swimming this morning and washed my hair afterwards so that was that. 😉 Maybe the sea salt spray would work with a gel that was not such a strong hold as the one I used last wash day. In past, I've only used sea salt spray to refresh, not along with my regular stylers on wash day.
Oh my God that's crazy! My mom did the same thing to my hair but in elementary school and middle school I would get a perm once a year and it lasted the entire year other than of course where it grew out from my roots. I did my last perm at 14 & my hair just didn't go back to straight even after I grew the perm all the way out. I had wonky wavyish hair for a couple years and then one day I decided to style it like I used to with the perm (ie I scrunched mousse into my wet hair & let it air dry) & low & behold I had very wavy hair lol. Over time it became curlier & eventually I ended up with curly hair 🤷🏽♀️
That is crazy! I kept perming longer than that because I still didn’t recognize my own waves. And the permed part held on for so long! My last perm was in cosmetology school and looked similar to what my natural is now oddly enough. It wasn’t until after it grew out for several months and had more knowledge about hair that I realized my hair wasn’t straight anymore! Kinda funny looking back on it since it’s so obvious to me now. At least our perms armed us with a little bit of knowledge on how to style curly hair? 🤷🏻♀️
I have a problem where my hair doesn’t look good (to my standard) when I use too little product (leave in), in that scenario my hair barely curls at the roots and has volume BUT my hair looks unhealthy and dry (no defined curls), but when I use a bunch of product the curls look hydrated and all the good stuff I think look good but there’s little volume and no curl at the roots until the arch of my eyebrow (if that helps). I don’t know if I should use less product that is more hydrating or more product of something light or idk!! I could always check my hair texture but my hair varies all over my head (thinner in the front thicker in the back, defined curls at the back loose curls at the front that sometimes coil at the bottom, curls from the roots at the back doesn’t on the sides of my hair BUTTT curls at little bit at the first few strands in the front) so I’m very unsure (btw this is my first time really looking into my hair so I have no idea what I’m saying💫). I would really appreciate the help I’m trying to “glowup” before I move countries!
Hai mam !! Yours videos are truly helpful for my cg curls !! But I lives in Sweden!! Too much product in this market!! I was totally confused to choose the good product for my hair routine!! Pls help the to choose some good products for my cg curls routine !! And also budget friendly !! Hopefully waiting for your reply ❤
Does age have to do with it? Or just products? Because I used to use nothing but gel in my younger years 11-14 maybe? And I had really long curly hair, maybe 3B. Have changed products and how I wash my hair since then, I’m in my 20’s. I’ve chopped it, damaged it and has gotten better. But lately I feel like my curls have dropped. My hair is now almost to my waist if straight. And it kind of makes me worried.😅
Since you mentioned your dad's experience, do you know of any good informational resources for short haircuts for curly hair? Jon has coarse, thick hair that curls pretty close to the root, and his barber is NOT doing a good job. He's got a consult with a new stylist next month, but he doesn't really know what to ask for, so I was hoping to look through some photos with him and help him narrow down what he does and doesn't like.
You definitely just identified a gap in my content I need to fill and am working out how to incorporate! In the meantime, youtube.com/@Jessesbarbershop I feel like this channel is an excellent resource for men’s haircuts, styling tips, and hair care. Jesse himself has a great head of thick, coarse, wavy/curly hair. He demonstrates on his own hair, does haircuts on others (his clients if I remember correctly), and also does style breakdowns for some popular or trending men’s cuts and styles. Highly skilled and knowledgeable and explains things in a way that I think men can easily relate to. That could be a good place to start. Also looking through pics of men’s hairstyles just to get an overall idea of what he likes. Jesse’s videos can help give him the words to combine with the pics to help determine what he wants and how to communicate that.
@@NadiraJamal That would be awesome. He has a much larger channel so I think that collaboration would be most beneficial to me and not him. So that’s probably unlikely. 🤷🏻♀️
