I’ve had the pleasure of working with Rebeca Mauleon for a short amount of time so far. Not only is she an extremely gifted and talented musician and great teacher, she’s also an extremely supportive, sweet, and generally wonderful person. I’m so glad she’s here to bring music to this world.
Beauty, genius, chops, passion...... the just-about-perfect women on this stage :) First time I'd heard of Sheila was her pyrotechnic timbale solo on George Duke's "Reach For It" LP on "We Give Our Love". She was..... 17? I had NO idea she could play congas like this. Rebeca is a legend....... if you had no idea who was playing in a venue, heard her playing from outside, you'd know it was her by her style on piano. When musicians can do this, it's like they "own" those particular notes :) Rebeca's compositions, while in many different classical styles from songo to salsa to merengue and cumbia, are distinctive in style. Her "Round Trip" band was one of several quite awesome projects. Love this, beautiful song and band. Thanks for sharing it.
Rebeca Mauleon carries on the tradition. She is in the groove of Latin music and does not go for hyper speed and ostentatious demonstrations of chops. African-Latin music is soulful and rhythmic, and romantic - not a mad cocaine induced hysterical as some of her contemporaries have unfortunately ascribed to. She gets the montunos down with soul.
Espectacular......... que buen solo de la maestra Rebeca y por supuesto de Sheila E las destaco por ser mujeres porque el resto de músicos ni se diga su profesionalismo y sabor
Rebecca has been my all time favorite pianist for the last number of years. I have witnessed Papo Lucca, the Palmieri Brothers, and Larry Harlow personally in my life. Rebecca brings it to an all different level. Joy to hear and see her on RU-vid.
