Rebel Moon - A Derivative Disappointment

I’m starting to think that “it’s a rejected Star Wars pitch” is a cover-up to hide Rebel Moons’ blatant ripping off of Warhammer 40K

they should've removed all of the unnecessary slow mo and final battle (which felt so pointless to me?) and just made part one strictly about the team assembling. That way there might've been enough screentime to have the characters meet in a more organic way and maybe actually give them a semblance of personality and show some actual interaction...

The movie is essentially a series of fetch quests while evading space Nazis.

I gave this film two chances. "100 pound woman besting multiple armed large assailants" is an underrated description. There is nothing in that cantina scene that tells me Sofia's character should NOT have been killed right there. No training, cleverness or martial arts should have gotten her out of that mess, at least as depicted on screen. That's where I checked out. yawn. Other movies do this and somehow I can buy into it, but here it's like, just no.

Was anyone seriously expecting a Zack Snyder original production to be good?!

It was hardly a disaster I give it 5/10. The main problem is it is shallow and derivative.

There's reasons why scorsese, Tarantino, Nolan and many other heavy character driven films are so much more successful and critically acclaimed. They know that if you don't have a good story and characters your film is going to suffer. I know that is a general statement and theirs more to making a film than that, but at the core if you don't have those components from the onset, you can't just polish a turd.

I thought the first 2 minutes was compelling, then downhill from there. You are 100% accurate. Zero character development, I just didn't care. And I wanted to care. I think the robot's character arc was the most compelling. And per the antagonist, I liked him in Deadpool

I don't watch TV and have adblock so I never see commercials or ads and am always surprised when a movie I had never heard of comes out and is awful because the only people who speak about it are paid to do so.

And I thought "Wombat & the Dial of Kennedy" was the worst movie of the year... Man I was so, so wrong... there was worse. Fortunately the year's coming to an end... but I doubt, something worse than this can be produced, even by Netflix. I really do. Now I'm going to rewatch my beloved Star Wars (the Lucas originals, of course IV, V, VI) just to clean up my Synapses. Those are really CREATVE, ORIGINAL, SIMPLE and UNPRETENTIOUS, Thank God. The movie is so bad and terrible i watched her walk into a barn against about 10 armed violent soldiers and all she had was an axe and she was able to take them out one by one... Every soldier basically stood there doing nothing in slow mo waiting to get killed.... Man it was so bad i turned it off right after that

i feel bad for Soufia Boutella. she didn't deserve this. but yeah, Hack Snyder keeps getting funding for these vanity projects. Interesting fact: Michael Huisman was Darrio Nyquillis and villain of this film Ed Skrein was the real and original DArrio Naharris and recasting Skrein with Huisman was an early sign that GOT was doomed.

Wait...this was rated R? I watched ab 75% of it before I knew it was Snyder, even his slow mo bs was in the weirdest spots and the fights were so bad, but they all had horrible acting in this. Even Corey stoll. Just, so bad

It's just poor choices and low skill film-making. I think the better course would have been start small - Kora, Bad Guys, Kai - and instead of looking for the other like some pre-ordained fetch quest, have them encounter the other characters while trying to get back, and have them earn their place through acts and deeds, not just "uh, heard about you, wanna join?" The Matrix - first 5 minutes, you have all major elements of the world: Neo, Trinity, Smith, real/digital, bad guys etc. Not the entire ensemble, that would be stupid, but enough to hook you. Star Wars - first 7 minutes, droids, plans, Princess, tractor beams, Vader, pods, crappy planet, ruthless motivations, squabbling characters. And no Luke. Really interesting way to establish the Big Wheels turning the story before meeting the protagonist. Ok it's Lost Prince archetype, and a bit of spy thriller stuff, but it still works. Better than: "this is LUKE. He is bored. He dreams big dreams. Why oh why does nothing interesting happen to hi...m hey, wait a minute...".

I enjoyed the movie and I was not bored watching this, I wanted to see sci-fi fantasy and this delivers. The story was simple and easy to follow. Yes, there is no character development and nothing significant in the dialogue, this is not that kind of movie. I do find Snyders colour tone and slow mo annoying.

If this movie was actually Snyder's Star Wars pitch to Disney, I'm not even slightly surprised that Disney declined. The script is weak and generic. Nothing happens. There's no story beyond the most basic premise. It's even less creative than The Force Awakens. (I realise it's only half of the movie, but I doubt the second half is a masterpiece.)

"star wars 4: a new hope" was disappointingly boring but it became something more with "s.w: the empire strikes back". have no expectations & just watch the movie & many would find it entertaining. the s.w. film series has a lot of boring scenes, with unanswered questions, but look what it became.

the robot was the most interesting character :P

It was good. Stop. Better than any of the modern Star Wars movies other than Rogue one. It’s fun movie. It isn’t a deep philosophical film. Just fun and very entertaining.

I wanted to like Sofia bc she's fine AF but her acting is horrible. She is not a good lead. Side actor with less lines, OK.

Two Daario Naharis, characters named Korra and Turok, Nazi in space. Did Zack Snyder playing with his action figures again? Please, tell me that Batman and Optimus Prime were in this movie.

Hiya man - I watched this and it was soooooooo bad (sorry, got stuck in slo-mo for a minute there). Frankly, I think a better launch for this would have been Kora helping the settlement fighting off pirates - taking the time to explore her backstory at relevant points (and for God's sake - explain how that twig beats up people triple her weight - just say she was "cybernetically enhanced" with surgical implants because of her work around the royal family (like the Cobra series, or even the Fury series by Webb) - and don't say "trained" - all her opponents were also "trained" - and at some point sheer mass negates the effects of training - training isn't magic.). You have her fight off the pirates (which establishes her as a character and generally how your universe works) - then the local government "notices" her and you can get a larger plot moving for a later movie or more. But Snyder is too grandiose to try to actually grow something organically - he has to jump to the "biggest and best thing" and thus dooms himself to failure. I swear, another year or two of this crap and I will dust off my legos and start doing stop-motion with the stories that I write. Can't be any worse than this stuff.

This movie gave me the same feeling i had after i watched TENET Udder pointless and coulda had so much potential. Like replicas n chappie.

Zach Schneider would be good for a "Devil May Cry" movie. Everything else nah.

As beautiful as the CGI artists make Zack's movies, (he has a vision, that's for sure, ) but it's like he hires 5 year old's to write ALL of his scripts.

It's fascinating to contrast this turd with the Creator, a flawed but gorgeous Sci Fi that is currently competing with Rebel Moon. Gareth Edwards shot in five countries. Zack Snyder shot in five soundstages around LA, and you can tell. Edwards and Fincher know how to incorporate CG into their pictures.

I hate it so much....I've already seen it three times. Not what I expected but still better than anything out there. Can't wait for part two

I had fun with It. It had some baddass action! That’s pretty much all I need from movies like this! After Empire, Star Wars just turned corny IMO. As soon as those Ewoks showed up I checked out! I liked it more than anything Star Wars that came out lately! Good dumb fun!

Cora flying planet to planet to unite these hero's to save one community of farmers from a galactic empire was crazy,.she had no army even if both blood twins united fighters..I understand Zach had Magnificent 7 aspirations but this aint a small town ran by a corrupt sheriff..this is space with starfighters and trained military that supposedly took down worlds..had that been Star Wars that lil faming community woulda been whipped out when they returned at films end..this was a Netflix/Snyder money ploy and i doubt the directors cut will save it

I don't know who is worse? Snyder fans or Rian Johnson fans in saying their work is "deep" or have a holier art thou mindset when it comes to their films but when you actually use your brains and disect what's happening, it's gobbly guck. Rebel Moon, I haven't seen it, but just listening to Drinker and Mauler break it down, it just sounds bad. Look, I love new original sci-fi or fantasy concepts. Heck, the Creator was one film I was really looking forward to.I loved the visuals for that movie by Edwards but the writing was bad. It's always been for me about the script, the writing and story. You fail at those, why bother making the movie? In Rebel Moon's case,it's like a worse Magnificient Seven/ Seven Samurai and Battle Beyond the Stars. With world building inconsistencies, like how Kora is able to take down multiple larger enemies given her stature. You could have given her cybernetics or some enhanced serum or something. It's sci-fi, you can get away with that. Problems like that really speak of someone who wasn't paying attention. But for me the more disturbing trend I'm noticing is this Part One/ Part two. Note, there are good examples, like Deadly Hallows, Across the Spider-verse, and even Dune Part One. But honestly, I find it promotes lazy storytelling. Films are theater where they have a beginning, middle, and ending. You can tease into another movie but they should be a standalone affair. Even Lord of the Rings, telling one full story across three movies, got this. All in all, I'm not shocked. But really, can get more good, tight scripts, please?

So I was looking for some enjoyable sci-fi. Zack Snyder? Sure, I like some of his movies. Inspired by Star Wars, a pet project long in development - hey, sounds good. But then I tried watching it. UNWATCHABLE. ASTONISHINGLY BAD. And let me assure you, my bar for this kind of entertainment is very, very low. Go and rewatch The Expanse or Forbidden Planet again. Anything except this life sucking dreck.

I finally got netflix and watched both of the rebel moon movies. To see if some of these bad reviews are true. I loved both movies. I loved the story and the visuals. Just great sci-fi.

No doubt I have to agree that it took me two days to get this damn video done because the hardest part was trying to be coherent on what the fuck to say about it In the end the movie is just endless wasted potential. The only enjoyable part about the movie was I didn't have to suffer alone while watching it 😅 Also, what the hell Netflix? Why are you giving him shit about using trailer footage? YOUR the ones who funded this mess!

Now you can expect Snyder cultists to harass Netflix employees because the movie sucked

Utter derivative garbage that's not even put together in a way that makes sense.. There's a difference between derivative and "inspired by" and this definitely falls, with an echoing crash, into the former.

I watched up to 25min of the film! and after just 1 few minutes I felt that i would rather have a warhammer 40k addaptation! and if Henry Cavill is making that I'm not wasting my time with this film! the opening seems unclear why the Imperium needs to take all the "oats" from the planet! and why the F do the militery need it all! its to slow of a build up! and the soldiers behavior is very unplaced in the setting they are in! they feel like soldiers that have lost all morals after prolonged war, but they don'y seem to have the buildt the reason for that!

This film hit EVERY woke troupe imaginable. It was disjointed and predictable with the worst dialog and acting I've seen since, anything Disney.😐
