I am a NOLAn by marriage, hubby was born in Mexico: lived and worked on the waterfront in New Orleans for decades. He came up north after Katrina in 2005. We met and became dear friends. Today I have the honor to be his wife. But, every now and then when I see some great New Orleans video on YT, I will respond in a positive way, and somebody insults, cusses me or basically gets up in it, like a flaming asshole - we call that 'being brave behind the keyboard'..Here's the deal: I am now 70, so I just let that shit roll. There's plenty to get outraged about in the world. Piss ants on the Net who didn't get what I said, in a loving good spirit? Don't give 'em oxygen... I just came by to enjoy the music..
I’ve been watching this video since it came out. Bet I’ve got 1000 of the views. I tell my kids all the time that there are two cities every American should visit. Philadelphia and New Orleans. I’ve travelled all over the US and these are the two most passionate cites we have. Never met people that are more proud of their city than New Orllenians. If you haven’t been and seen a second line, I HIGHLY suggest you do!!!
SALUTE to my brother, every ting you said iz FACTS, I watch these videos SO much cause I'm from there, and trust me, this iz the HIGH lite of our week, come Sunday we roll'n brah all day, LOVE my city
I am from the Great Snowy North, and I can't get enough of this song. Makes it feel like New Orleans...hot, muggy, and right around sunset getting ready to break it down for the evening.
@tomirmigi That might be a typo on their CD (and on New Birth's CD). A.P. Tureaud was the lawyer for the NAACP during the Civil Rights Movement who filed the case that ended segregation in the deep south. Someone told me that Trombone Shorty originally wrote the song, so now I need to go find out what album he has it on....
I feel like I need to point how different 3:51 - 5:00 is in this live version compared to the original arrangement by these guys. Brass band just has so much style and flexibility that’s not available in really any other genre of music. The music they play is sometimes more akin to dancing than playing, the players taking queues from the other band members and the steppers in front. Please catch a second line in New Orleans if you haven’t yet. It can change your life for the better
I have only been down to Bullet's briefly, when I was in Nola in Feb, but my money is on the song being about the neighborhood more then the gentleman.
PEOPLE....like folks.....you...me...us...them....humans! Mabey people of NOLA...mabey you brush that chip off your shoulder homie.....give it a few years and we'll all be lookin like mariah
