Rebuild XL 3000 WARN Winch: Rebuild & Replace Steel Winch Cable

In this episode we remove the XL3000 Warn Winch from our 2012 Can Am Outlander 500XT to replace the steel cable. Once removed, we found 1 missing winch tie-rod, 1 worn almost through and severely bent. So we will show you how to remove the winch from the CanAm ATV, rebuild as well as replace the 3/16" braided steel winch cable and hook. You'll learn how to install or remove a warn winch from a canam outlander ATV. Enjoy!

I suggest getting a pulley and putting it on the plow and running the cable through the pulley and back up to your bumper this will put half the stress on your winch and will keep your I loop and hook from being pulled into the fairlead, which is probably what broke your other cables, hope that helps!

Great tip. Using the pulley will give more leverage and use less power to pull as well

Great video! I'm going to do this on my 500xt max soon. I'm waiting for the synthetic rope and aluminum hawse fairlead.

Let me know how you like the rope. I moved my plow mount forward and using that new roller fairlead, still broke the new cable in about 4 days use!

Just a tiny wedge to hold the cable in place. You could likely jam anything in there

nice vid, considering going synthetic, but my steel is good for now, shortened her up a bit! question -- i noticed when i had my winch off, the freespool rotating knob (looks different than yours) is loose, and i can pull it right off... i never noticed this on the wheeler, but on the bench i noticed it... seems odd... doesn't look like anything broken or missing though???

Hello, great video, just came in handy on my 2007 outlander 500. these XL3000 winches are not listed well on the internet, not at all actually. Could you tell me the part number of the replacement tie rod kit?

Brian J i cant recall the part number. I search a local warn winch officw in my area (mississauga ontario is where i found one) and went in - they had the kit there - sorry i dont recall that part number unless i said or listed it in the video
