Oh geeze it's between the tmac flats that I had a pedal strike otb that broke my pelvis or my CB Enduro that I crashed in that helped cause a high ankle syndemosis tear and fibula fracture.
Omg those are gnarly! I had a super crazy pedal catch with the tmacs as well that sent me otb. That’s when I went back to those crank bro’s with easy release cleats haha
Kyle Warner - Mtb my first pair... of course I used them for the first time in my first xc race back in ‘96 and got dead last... was exhausted from all the crashes.. pair of VPs.
Great tip at 3:45 about the cap and play in the pedal...I stripped threads (a while back) on a pedal axle thinking that I needed to tighten the nut to remove play... almost did it again today but then saw this video and realized that I only need to snug up the cap. Is the nut on the pedal axle always reverse-threaded or is it only like that on one side pedals?
Worth noting that Crank Bros right pedals are NOT reverse threaded for the retaining nut which has been a fail point for me in the past. The nut loosens, bearing starts moving laterally and eventually it disintegrates. If there’s lateral play in the crank bro’s pedals it’s definitely worth replacing the bearings.
Yeah i love riding flats for sure! So much fun, I have found that the CrankBros pedals + easy release cleats are the closest thing i can get to a flat pedal feel with the extra security of clips on the really rough stuff!
Hey, so one of my tmac pedals came off today. It just started sliding off the spindle. Looking at this video, it seems that maybe I can get replacement parts if I do fail to work out how to secure it back on. Are all pedals the same setup as this?
Thanks for posting this- I found this after destroying a bearing on my Oneups and needed to fix. I was able to measure the bearing from my good pedal and order new ones cheap!
@@rpiian Last November these were hard to find, maybe there was a run on them with everyone having the same idea, However, if you put them into Walmart's search bar 686Z 6 x 13 x 5mm Metal Shields Sealed Deep Groove Ball Bearings they still list them. Be aware I had to send an email to Walmart because after ordering them I heard nothing for 6 days, but they got them sent. Good luck, mine are composite.
Hey Kyle, looks like you use the longer pedal shafts on your mallets as opposed to the standard length. Is there a technical reason for this or just a preference?
Hey John! Great question and good catch haha. so i personally will only run the LS or long spindles because the ride concept dh shoes i ride in are a little beefier than like a light trail or xc shoe. I find that with the standard spindles in certain situations i can't unclip because the toe box of the shoe will actually contact the crank arm and limit my movement. I have been using the LS pedals for the past 4 years :)
@@AprilRideMTB Makes sense. Thanks for the response... I use the 6 degree float cleats and had any issues with the 5-10's I use. So, I thought I would ask. Thought maybe it had to do with your leg length issue that was affecting your lower back that you were talking about in another video.
Glad to see someone actually using this grease on something. Do you know if there is any reason you wouldn't use this grease on your bottom bracket or if Maxima is carbon safe?
How often should this be done? Also. How much do pedals Like this cost. As a new rider I upgraded my pedals for $50. I thought I’d just ride em til I didn’t like em and then buy new ones. Perhaps yours are way more expensive or this procedure needs done more often than unrealized. Thx for the info I obviously need it.
Suggestion: explain which threads are reverse threaded on left versus right pedals. BTW, I really enjoy and learn from your videos. They improve my MTB experience.
I see you asked this 5 months ago so my comment is probably too late. Late last year I was running out of Park Tool PPL-1 and started looking for a better grease. I noticed that a lot of bike mechanics were using Motorex Bike Grease 2000 but it was pretty expensive. I saw some talk on forums recommending the Maxima Waterproof Grease and it was reasonably priced and also had good reviews on Amazon so I checked it out. It is WAY better than Park Tool PPL-1 lube and it's about the same price IIRC. I generally hate sponsored videos :-) but I'm definitely impressed with this grease. I've found that using a small cheap paintbrush from Walmart is the easiest way to apply it - the kind kids use for arts and crafts and stuff (pack of 8 for like a buck or something).
at least it is the light, i thought it was a color correct gone haywire, then i noticed it on one of my videos, but that was because i was filming near the tv when it turned blue. my lady absolutely LOVED your "How to manual" video, BTW. she's like, "why can't you be nice like he is to his girlfriend?"
