Hey everyone, welcome back to TheStoneRager. In today's video, I'm rebuilding a dry stone wall in my garden that was unfortunately damaged by a mystery car or van. It's always a shame when something like this happens, but it's also a great opportunity to show you how to repair and rebuild a dry stone wall.
At The Stone Ranger, we're passionate about all things stone carving and dry stone walling. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced stonemason, we're always looking to share our knowledge and learn from others.
Aside from my work as a Volunteer and Community Ranger at the Peak District National Park, I love spending time in my workshop and working on stone projects like this one.
If you have any questions or would like to contribute to one of our videos, please feel free to reach out. And don't forget to follow us on Instagram and Facebook for more stone carving and dry stone walling content.
Thanks for watching and I'll see you in the next one!

our rocks here are rounded. Formed by the ice sheet that came across millions of years ago. We have stone walls here, built by farmers long ago when they dug the land. Now those are falling apart. Not many stone masons want to spend time on saving these treasures

@@TheStoneRanger yes people here pay good money to have the stone walls repaired. The rocks are almost never flat, because of how they came to be - ice masses rolling over rock and turning it into boulders and gravel, lasting millions of year. This whole area here is granite, which is an igneous rock and has been pushed up from the mantle of the earth due to collision with Africa, back when there was only one continent and it started breaking apart, creating all the continents. Yes, New England is part of Africa...the bedrock here contains mica, quartz and garnets, all crystallized within the granite, making it a very hard rock. Beautiful stuff.

You can use any type of stone if you just use the same principles: good foundation, length into the wall, crossing your joints, etc. But there are some stones easier than others when starting out; the flatter the stone, the better.”
