In October 2017, Frontenac Heritage Foundation, Dry Stone Canada, Barriefield Village Association and St. Mark's Anglican Church collaborated to disassemble and restore St. Mark's dry stone wall, to commemorate Canada's 150 birthday and the Frontenac Heritage Foundation's 45th anniversary.

Love this, yet to learn and figure out how to restore walls my father did. The stones used were gigantic and puzzles me how did he lift them up on its own. The most essential work is the wall that supports our front yard and that is about 4.5 metres high! It stud there for years but needs reparing in a couple of places...therre is a stream flowing at the base of the wall and at times gets very ferocious so got to repair the wall before is to late. This video motivates me. Thanks

Stone will often tell you where to place it on a wall. ...... My ancestors owned huge quarries in Plymouth, Devon, England, where from 1812-1841, they supplied 4.5 million tons of limestone for Plymouth Breakwater - 1.75 miles long - and a MASSIVE undertaking for the time. ...... Other ancestors owned a Cornish tin smelting works, and from that ran a bank for over a century, funding many mines, the expansion of the railway to Penzance, and countless buildings built of cut stone. ...... so stone is in my blood. ...... I grew up in a huge limestone house built by my great-grandfather, who even built a bridge to create a new front drive, which involved blasting the side of a very steep wood - well over half a mile downhill, and great fun for small boys on bicycles and go-karts, plus great for bump-starting tractors and cars. ...... So I have huge respect for stone, those who work with stone, and those who appreciate and love stone.

12/13/2021 I once built what I called a "thrown stone wall". I collected the rocks and then attempted to place each rock in the wall, without modification, and nothing to bind them, so it fit and sort of locked in place. I learned that the rock will tell you where and when to place it. I managed to build a wall strong enough to walk on, over 6 months. We sold the house, I wonder if it is still there 17 years later. These folks did a much better job than me, but I sure do understand what they did and how. Beautiful job. ;-)
