In part 2 of our DIY diesel engine rebuild, we continue the disassembly all in the cockpit of our sailing catamaran....
We ran into a few hiccups where we didn't have the right tools but with a little creativity and some help from friends we made what we had work.

As a former aircraft mechanic that has overhauled numerous engines, I can say that you're doing a great job with the tools that you have. You should be very proud when that engine once again roars to life.

Billy, you are an example of people that can do. Never be afraid to try something yourself. Hopefully, there were no parts left over. I use to take the dash off of a '69 Roadrunner. There were always parts left over when I put it back together. I just threw them in the glovebox until the next time I pulled it. Hard to do that with an engine. Guessing all those parts are important. :-) At least now it is easy to video all of the steps as you disassemble something. Good luck and happy sailing.

A Yanmar 2GM is a fine engine and he is doing a very good job of it... Lovely that he can install a full kit including sleeve and new pistons and rings - it really will be a fresh motor again, hope the crank is good and the valves, guides and seats are good too... He is doing a methodical job and is being pretty respectful and careful of the process.

That's ballsy!!! First time engine build and you're using a beam type torque wrench. That takes some skill by way of knowing what "feels" right in addition to reading the torque on the gauge.

Billy, I give you a lot of credit for rebuilding your diesel on your boat. You are creative and have a “can-do” attitude. I rebuilt the engine in my first car, a Ford 351 Cleveland in my garage when I was 15 years old. This brought back lots of great memories of taking that engine apart piece by piece, cleaning it all up, new bearings and gaskets and putting it back together. I had a Chilton’s manual to guide me through it. Can’t wait to hear that sucker run! Good job so far dude!
