Looks good! I bet this is much easier without the tub on the frame. I replaced my spring years ago, 2012 or something and it was a massive pain.

Oooofa yeah Ny brother did his spring too with the car assembled. If I have to do it again the biggest thing I’ll have going for me is the new hardware. Won’t have to fit rusted bolts.

Many owners with early model Spitfires convert the rear spring to the later Swing Spring

I considered that, but decided to stick with the original and purchase a camber compensator.

i did the rear spring on mine too. was an american guy who made them with delrin. maybe i should have painted mine like you did. i hot glued the buttons on the leafs and then sprayed each leaf with many coats of graphite. looking forward to seeing how high the butt will look. i too sorta though those buttons were thick. we'll see.... they aren't that difficult to swap out in situ if it is too high.

I’m hoping that it just helps to level out the car. I also got the lowered front springs which should help too. It will be interesting for sure to see how it sits.

Awesome video Steve. I think I'm still down one vid from this current one. I hope your hand heals up ok. Saggy Butts😂. I'm more intetested in how to repair the Saggy Chest I've ended up with.😅

Hahahaha this is the current one. I have been slow putting stuff out the last few weeks.

Looks great. Those do look a bit thick, but I'm wondering if they "Help" the rear "SAG" issues. By the way.... there is a 20 ton press just to your right there...

So I replaced them in a later video with significantly thinner ones and the spring I think will be much better.

Great job on the leaf springs. Have you use lowering block and what is the height of the rear and front suspension.

Thanks! No lowering block on the rear, however I did put lowered springs in the front. The car rides with the nose pointed up from factory due to bumper height laws, but with the 1” drop in the front I am hoping that this will allow it to sit more level.

Good choice. So to achieve 1 inch drop in the front the new set of springs instead of 10 turns I should order with 9 turns? That is how it works? My apologies for the ignorance in this matter . @@StevesProjectCarGarage

Hi Steve. I have a feeling that these buttons are to thick. You should have messured the hight of the spring before and after the renovation. The space between the leafs are to big after my opinion. Anyway i used carpet tape to keep the buttons in place during assembly. BTW Did you notice that on the top leaf there was stamped 'FRONT'? Remember to mount the spring in the right direction. Great work!

Thanks for the advice! These buttons are pretty tried and true. Fingers crossed I don’t have issues.

its been a while since you released this, but can you link what teflon pads you used?

I ended up swapping these out in favor for thinner ones that I found here. www.dcmachinist.com/shop/spitfire-gt6/4

I think the teflon pads have too thick a brim. Let's hope they flatten like a lot of teflon buttons do.

They do seem pretty thick, but many people swear by these replacements.

The shackle bolts shouldn’t be tight like that, the buttons are too thick round the rim, will stress the leaves, and will give the rear wheels too much positive camber, which is dangerous. The original rubber buttons squashed down to only about 2mm, teflon will not do this, would advise sanding them down a few mm.

I ended up replacing them with thinner ones in a later video.
