Yes. The carbon plate is the anode. Cathode material could be copper or even lead oxide. What, pray tell, is the seperator? Not only does it serve the function of dendrite containment, so claimed in the video, but also keeps the cell from self discharging. How might we learn more about this seperator? Is it the same as used in NiMH?

Since when education system uses inverted labeling for cathode and Anode? Does this thing has scientific reason behind it or is there political motivation behind it?

It is by no means an inverted labelling even in the textbooks , the function of electrochemical system decides the electrodes to be called as cathode or anode, here is an innovation in protection of metallic Zn based batteries from shortning.

It's quite confusing. Most devices consume energy rather than produce it, so we're used to "current" (positive charge carrier convention) going into the positive (potential) electrode. It is the same when *charging* a battery, but the quasi-standard nomenclature refers to the case of *discharging* the battery. *Technically when charging the battery, the names ought to be switched to what you were expecting* , but that isn't done because people want to identify the electrode with a name that doesn't change with the direction of current. By definition the names "anode" and "cathode" indicate the *current* direction, *not* the voltage potential, but unfortunately it is being used as though it refers to voltage. The original definition can be remembered by the mnemonic "ACID", "Anode is Current Into Device". Better terminology uses " positive electrode" and "negative electrode". I wonder if a good short-hand might be "posode" and "negode". This might resolve the problem, but good luck getting people to change their habits. We might as well adopt the metric system while we're at it, lol.

When i was learning electronics in the 1980's, the standard current flow was from the negative to positive. In fact, this is how they taught back in the 1950's. Later on, the schools started teaching kids that current flow is from positive to negative. I don't know the reason behind this, but This just makes it more complicated and confusing than it needs to.

Haha this one always stayed in my mind. To clarify, don't think about the anode and the cathode being switched around, since reduction will always occur at the cathode, and oxidation will always occur at the anode (yes for any type of cell/battery, you name it). The only difference is the polarity of the electrodes which probably influence the switching of the electrodes. hope this clarified.

Have you guys ever heard of Macgyver? When you took this info from Dutchsince, you should have been more aware that most people are smart enough to leave out or change certain bits of info that are crucial to the development of the finished product, as Macgyver did on the TV series. So, I guess in all your brilliance, you neglected to use a rational mind in pursuing this outcome. Was it worth it?
