Amazing, the time and dedication it takes to get one of those cars right. I'll think twice next time I see one on the road. I've always been an (A) guy, obviously very ignorant to the challenges of a real antique car. Pass me another donut please

I'm a distributor guy but that was very interesting. You explained it in a way us mere mortals can understand. My guess as to the bigger air gap at the bottom of the mag is the pre-26-27 motors tended to droop a bit in the back. The 26-27 bolted hogs head fixed that problem. Cheers

That's what I figured. Since the back of the pan is the only thing that locates the rear axle, it probably bends around some while driving. Yep, 26-27 is a better design.

I'm thinking of purchasing a 1915 T of an old fella in Tasmania. I can rebuild a Morris Minor but I find the way these work very alien. I find your videos fascinating and easy to watch. You may even convince me to go through with it. Cheers!

Sounds like fun. Yeah, it takes a while to get use to how unconventional everything is, but after that, they're as easy to keep running as anything else.

Thank you for demonstrating the Model T magneto recharge. That was very interesting and now I see why so many Model Ts have added generators under the hood. Great video!

Your nail on a string should align N-S to the earth's magnetic poles if the string is flexible enough. Like you say though it doesn't matter as long as you were consistent!

Why is it so much work to shim the thing? Certainly was not that long at the factory.

It was probably easier when new because the engine parts were dimensionally more consistent (within a few thousandths) so each engine probably used about the same number of shims. It takes a long time today because we have to start from scratch with each engine.

There is a error in your testing. Initially you test the magnet with the iron piston on the horizontal and after by pulling vertically . Pulling is much easier as there is no lever effect.
