I made this recipe yesterday. My neighbor had given me a set of four 16.9 oz mugs and I already have a ton of mugs, so I decided to fill the mugs with the dishsoap. They will take forever to use up! I tripled the recipe and in addition to the lemon I added "Forest Walk" by NOW essential oils and came up with a great scent. I had a little extra for a few mold bars. I ordered some little scrub brushes and may sell a couple of the mugs, or give them away to friends and family. Thanks for the tutorial!
I use soapmakingfriend instead of soapcalc. It will do the math for you and adjust the lye automatically in your recipe when you select citric acid as an additive.
@@rhonda4829yes in order to actually print or save more than one recipe you do have to pay for it the price went up within the past 4 months. You can get it for $6 a month or pay $40 for a year. Just a couple months ago I think it was $2.99 a month $30 a year. I was really hoping for a Black Friday sale where they bring it back down to 30 for the year it is a nice app.
I made these , they turned out great. Never thought I would enjoy doing the dishes, but knowing that I’m saving money and helping the environment gives me enjoyment. They remove the grease and leaves a squeaky clean ! Thank you for sharing your recipe.
Thank you for another great video Ellen, I just want to share with anyone who might read this comment. Soap making friend is a soap calculator that i use and it calculates the citric acid for you so you don't have to do the maths! Hope you don't mind me sharing that on your channel. Thanks for sharing your recipes and information.
Hi Ellen!! Howdy from Oklahoma!! 🤠 I made your solid dish soap recipe yesterday,,,I had just received my sunflower molds the day before from Amazon. I decided to use Lemon and Pink Grapefruit EO’s and did an in the pot swirl w BB’s Rose Pearl & Buttercup micas…I’ve only been soaping since May of this year, so I’m having lots of fun playing w all the colors,,,and learned how to do a hanger swirl from you, w my gear tie that you had suggested👍🏻 I also reconfigured my recipe to fill all 12 cavities(I hope I did all my math calculations right!🤞🏻😅🤞🏻). So far, I’ve not worked w citric or stearic acids,,,This was such a fun recipe to try! I can’t wait till it cures so I can try it on my dishes! And perhaps sell a few…Thank you sooo much for your recipe, and the instructional video,,,you always do a fantastic job!👌🏻♥️👌🏻 Many blessings to you and your family!😊
Hey there, Lady! GREETINGS FROM VIRGINIA! It’s such a breath of fresh air, having a fellow soap maker near me! I just want to tell you how smart you are. Never would I have thought to use coffee filters to wrap my round soaps and I have struggled with ways of labeling them for years. Thank you so much for that little tidbit. I am going to make this soap and we’ll see how we do on the dishes because nowadays even Dawn doesn’t do a good job cutting the grease. Do you remember how strong it used to be? It could cut the grease on anything. I always think of my fellow soap maker when I’m driving through Tennessee, heading back to Virginia from home in southern Illinois visiting family. God bless you and I enjoy your videos.
Thank you so much for this recipe! I had to watch some parts over again because I wasn't ready and awake enough for a chemistry lesson. But I am glad you explained the lye/citric acid equation.
@@EllenRuthSoap It's great! No, I just wasn't in the mindset yet. I was just expecting your usual relaxing soap video, and instead I had to stop and write down good information. It's great, it ended up waking me up. 😂
Hello! Ellen. I wanted to thank you for sharing your acknowledgment and recipe. I gave it a try and I love it . Your video help a lots. Once again thanks . Many blessings to you !
Good day from Dauphin Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦 Thank you beautiful soul for your inspiring videos, I cannot begin to tell you how much I’m grateful and thankful for by your information, knowledge and inspiration.😊
It always confused me when it came to factoring in Citric Acid with Lye, but how you explained it was very helpful. I am a big fan of Lemon essential oil. It makes perfect sense and smells wonderful too.
Hi Ellen. I store all my soap recipes in a 3 ring binder. I use plastic sheet protectors to protect them. Also, I use sodium citrate. You use 1.3% to 3.90% of the total oil weight. For example, for a 500g oil batch oil with 2% sodium citrate (.02×500), so 10 grams of sodium citrate. I find it easier to do it this way. Amazon sells it.
Those are so super cute for a kitchen bar! and for those that are like me and know we should do all the maths, but aren't great at it....soapee ccalc will figure out the citric acid lye difference for you!
You are so cute and genuine! Even sharing your personal diary that you keep in your studio! 😊 I’ve watched you make soap from before I myself became a soap maker. Got so much guidance from your videos. Lots of blessings.
I look forward to trying this recipe. I had made solid bar dish soap with a different recipe. It used real lemon and lime juice. It worked well on some things, but not all. I will say it's worked well for pretreating laundry stains. I definitely will try this recipe. Thank for generously sharing.
I am just in the testing phase of my first hand/body soap with CA. We have hard water and I have to say so far it looks like a game changer, really liking it! Super excited to try out this recipe in the near future. Thanks so much for sharing!
I finally got around to making this recipe last week and tested it out today. Oh my, how wonderful! I also do not wear gloves while doing dishes, so this soap really fits the bill to get things clean without drying my hands out like regular dish soap. This is definitely going to be a staple in my stock going forward. Thanks so much for always being willing to share and support fellow makers! Your generosity is so inspiring!
Thank you so much!! I love all your videos I've watched so far. I just found your videos and just today I started to watch one after another back to back.
Wow! I like the recipe. I do have a homemade dish soap with Tallow and Coconut Oil. Thank you for sharing, Mrs. Ellen. I love the Sunflower design too. 😊
Thank Ellen!! I'm going to try making this wonderful dish soap for my home and family ,looks great. Thank you for always sharing your knowledge and recipe. ❤ can't help my self, Im watching this video for the 3rd time!
Ellen, this is lovely! Thank you so much for the inspiration to finally make up a batch of these for gifts- I've been intimidated to use Citric Acid in soap but a non body bar seems like the perfect application to dip my toes into it! Where I am here in the Upper Midwest has VERY hard water so I've always heard that soap with citric acid is the best and I'm excited to see. My favourite soap calculator, Soapee, has recently added the citric acid adjustment as an option so it makes it even easier. I think I'm going to do a Lemon & Mint essential oil blend for my bars, I have a spray cleaner from Target that uses that blend to scent it and it smells divine ☺
Love this recipe! Everyone that I’ve shared with also love how well it works:) the lemon scent was amazing when first made but now nobody can smell it. Is this normal? I used 14 grams eo.
Hi Ellen. It's always a pleasure to watch your videos. Very pleasant and claming! Thank you. Soap making is a hobby for me. Started with researching for my son's skin ailments. Now it's to keep my aging skin looking young. Plus, making Christmas gifts is cheaper than buying them. That being said, I've made several different recipes of solid dish soaps that include citric acid from other YT videos. It's great, but after air drying dishes, there's always water spots. I live just north of Atlanta, GA on city water so I really don't think hard water is the issue. Do you have water spots after air drying dishes?
@@EllenRuthSoap That could be it. Normally I rinse using cool tap water. I'll try rinsing with hot water and let you know if that solves the water spots issue. Many thanks!
Hi I’m curious if the calculations you did with the citric acid and lye when you said “For every gram of citric acid it will take .624 grams of lye to counteract the citric acid.” …Is that universal or is that for this recipe specifically. I’m assuming it’s universal but I want to make sure. I want to start making soap and I’m trying to do some research. Your videos are literally the best!! Thank you for explaining every step so well!
Thank you Ellen another amazing video I love watching your videos ❤ Question, if you put them in smaller moulds to fit in a dishwasher would it be work ? or would it be to hard. Thank you ❤
This is the best dish soap I have come across, thank you. Question can fragrance oil be used instead of EO. I have not graduated to using EO I don’t know why I am so scared of EO
It is Friday night, and I am ready to party with this new recipe! 🎉 Thank you, Ellen! I am very intrigued at the addition of stearic acid to harden the bar. Will this also work with a body bar? I am formulating a horse shampoo bar that is really similar to your dish bar recipe , just superfatted with argan oil for shine, and although it starts out hard, it is soggy by the time my horse is clean! Do you have any thoughts on this 🤔? Thanks, again!
@@EllenRuthSoapIf you have a moment, could you help me figure out how to keep the stearic acid from re-solidifying as the batter temperature drops? I ended up with tiny white spots as I blended it. Should I be soaping at a higher than normal temperature when using stearic acid? The temp had dropped to about 100°F by the time it was ready to pour. Any advice would be very gratefully received.
Thank you for this inspiring video. Do you have a link to the white soap dish with metal draining rack insert? That’s exactly what I’ve been looking for.
thank you Ellen! you are cute and spontaneous... Can you pls share the link to Elly's soap with citric acid explanation? I tried finding its not poping up...
Great recipe! Do you like this better than the coconut noodles in your old recipe? I bought the coconut noodle dish soap from you and it worked very well. I have not tried your new recipe (this one) bar yet. Do you have a good dishwasher recipe?
I have really sensitive skin, particularity on my hands, (history of severe eczema), but also using gloves is not practical nor does it keep the water off my hands. I have learned that the only liquid soap to date that actually helps my hands heal, are ones that have aloe Vera in them. Is there a way to add the aloe to this hard bar soap?
Hi Ellen 🌺 I used coconut oil from Costco and when I melt the stearic acid with the coconut nut oil in the microwave my solution was grainy and on your video after you melted the coconut oil with the stearic acid your solution seem to be very clear … is it my oil ? Thank you very much for your help ❤
I pulse my oil in the microwave about 1 min just to melt my coconut oil just for not loose the property of the oil maybe next time I will put in more time 😊 thank you Ellen and this morning my soaps are very nice 😀
@EllenRuthSoap I went to the SoapCalc website and entered the numbers into the calculator. It calculated the amount. Nothing jumped out to me. What should I look for to know if the recipe is "lye-heavy"? This is only my 2nd time making soap (first time was a couple days ago when I made your laundry powder). Thank you!
Both tallow and lard make fantastic soap. If you change any of the oils, you'll need to run the numbers thru soap calc and make sure your lye ratio is correct.
hello Ellen, Can i replace stearic acid for acid citric or something else that make it the same as your wonder soap? oh wonderful thank u very much, greeting from Belgium🙏🏻❤😘
No, stearic and citric acid are completey different. If you change any of the ingredients, be sure to run the numbers thru a soap calc and make sure your lye ratio is correct.
Just a thought…would these bars be the answer to cleaning the dishes et al from making CP soap? I always seem to struggle with fully removing the greasy feel.
Hi, I love this recipe and have made it three times with success, but I made it again yesterday and my batch seized before I could get it into the molds. What temperature should I bring the oils and lye water to? Maybe it’s because of a different brand of lemon EO?
Hi Ellen, I was looking at the soapcalc recipe you showed in this video & the water is listed as 120.6 gm., however your recipe below and in your video you state you add 142 gm. water. I'm confused as to why the different water amount? Thanks! I want to make this recipe.
@@EllenRuthSoapThanks! I made this for my use this morning. Your recommended H20 amt. produced a wonderfully behaved batch. Can't wait to use this in 6 wks.!
Good day! ... In comparing the recipe you posted for us to use, the measurements do not match what you did in the video. Did you do differently than what was in the original recipe?
Ohh nooo... I just made my second batch (first batch went perfectly and is curing until July 28).. I just realized I forgot to add the citric and stearic acids, is this batch a goner or just not as cleansing or hard?
@@EllenRuthSoap Thank you for such a quick response! I just googled how to correct for a lye-heavy batch and I understand where to go from here. I appreciate you!
I've tried using stearic acid in soap but the melt point is so high that my oils have to be very hot to keep it in solution. You didn't seem to have a problem with it.
Greetings, I am interested in how the PH can be lowered in soaps with a cold process. I'm using google translate so I apologize for the clumsy words. Greetings from Croatia
@@EllenRuthSoap I bet this would be a really good bar of soap for making laundry soap as well ! It works that good , I only use liquid soap for soaking now , and can get away with just soaking in hot water too , I will probably use this recipe for the rest of my life and wanted to tell you thanks again 💙💙💙
Ok newby here. Do you sell your soaps too. I’d like to try sone before going to the work of making. I’m disabled so I don’t want to waste the time I have active. Lol.
Hi ! I was wondering why the amount of water actually used (142 g) is different from the soapcalc screenshot (120 g) at the begenning of the video ? So i'm confused about the recipe. Did I miss something ? Is anyone can help me please ? Thank you 🙂
I put it in this formulation to help it last longer and stay hard even while wet... I suggest trying some small batches and seeing if you can find a formula you like.
@@EllenRuthSoap so far this recipe minus the stearic acid is phenomenal. (It did start to crack a little while making and I had to pop them in the fridge.) Great lather and works incredible on the dishes! Thank you for this!
