Just plowing through one second after series and got to tell you. Very entertaining, well written and it lays out issues on multiple levels. The main character Colonel Mathison just strikes an image of Sootch.

Ranger handbook is a good one to get as it covers shelter, knots, land nav etc

I would add ANYTHING by Les Stroud and Dave Canterbery. Even Max Brook's (Mel Brook's son) Zombie Survival Guide.

Hi sootch my name is john and I am a nurse but also I have been prepping for many years. I have just watched your recommended books review and some of those books I have read . I don't know if you have heard of an author called Devon c ford but he has wrote a series of 6 books called survival after it happened. These books are well worth a read. Can I just say I love your videos and have learned alot from them. Keep up the good work for the prepping community and keep safe.

My suggestions differ radically. My assumptions: 1. you will not survive alone; you will survive in a group; 2. the skills that you have are not transferable by osmosis, genetics to your spouse, your children or your members of your circle; 3. not everyone has to be proficient with a firearm, building a cabin. 4. people have to learn and review basic skills and they will not always have a live human instructor available. 5. there are certain basic skills everyone must have and those life skills have been organized, refined and put into a series of books. 1. get the boy scout handbook and find the required merit badges to make Eagle Scout. 2. obtain used copies of the merit badge books. 3. whether a member of the group is 11 years old, 45 years old, or 76 years old, those are the skills that can be learned. Then the "academic" can learn basic first aid or how to cook a meal. The young boy or girl can learn exercises to become physically fit. 4. Get the book about the Bielski brothers who formed a survival group in Belarus of more than 1000 people in the woods during WW2. It teaches leadership and group organization. I was in the US Army. In basic training, we were told that a survey of casualties in Vietnam was done. Virtually no enlisted men who had been Eagle Scouts were killed in combat. I understood that already. You not only had acquired skills, you had to plan and organize and cooperate with merit badge counselors, do projects and make the effort to learn skills. It was also said that most of the combat casualties were in the first 30 day sweep, so an incountry 30 day safe program was developed. It is darn hard and a bit late to have to learn survival skills only by watching. Meeting the merit badge requirements allows failure without major consequences. I will add something. 1. the likelihood of you picking up an ak47 and ammo and learning how to shoot after shtf is slim to none. You need to get away from the Red Dawn mentality. 2. If you have communications gear, you need to do the following: a. make a couple of copies of the manuals and put each into a zip lock water resistant bag. Make sure that you have at least a few magnifying glasses around. 3. if you have a manual for a firearm, you don't need to buy a book. Do the same thing. 4. do you have a manual on making simple traps? Buy a second one. You aren't going to be spending time hunting deer and cattle.

You can go to your local Goodwill. They have hundreds of used books. I have found many books I was hunting there at 99¢ each.

Also, to Build the Library-- consider used books on Amazon. They, in my experience are like new, and cost about half the new price

If you don't know how to grow your own food I would suggest Back to Basics or other books on homesteading. We could all be pioneers real fast.

"When All HELL Breaks Loose" by Cody Lundin is a great one for those starting out.

Watch the movie Threads from 1984, its probably the best SHTF film ever made. A good first aid book like those written by Auerbach should also be on everyones bookshelf. For outdoor survival the good old books from the days written by men who lived and worked in the wild are the best.

Anarchist cookbook is all you need. I remember getting my first cook book on dot matrix paper.

I would add a copy of The Bible. While maybe not directly related to survival it could go a long way in boosting morale, building a community, or providing guidance and teaching lessons. Not to mention, it is a source of hope.

You might want to do a top 5 or similar to help folks get started.

Need to ad farming and scavenging as well as some surgery books not just field medic. Also some serious herbology and natural pharmaceutical herbs and how to use them.

Really enjoyed this one, some great suggestions. I have one book, "How to Stay Alive in the Woods " by Bradford Angier that I picked-up from Duluth after buying some cargo pants:)

Most of my books come from Salvation Army, Humane Society Thrift Store, and Goodwill Store. You can find all kinds in places like that.

I know as a Christian the "Left Behind" series has been on my mind lately. Crazy times we're living in, but God knows the outcome AND has good planned for His children... So I'm putting a ton of faith in Him WHILE I prep. LOL

There's loads missing from this list. Basic cook book? A book on edible plants in your area? A decent map and street guide for your local town? I'd probably throw in a DIY manual and a book on how to tie knots too

Was at a local store in my area that has a decent Military surplus section including books for cheap. Got a copy of an old Army survival manual and first aide manual. Yes probably "outdated" in the sense they were reprints of 1970s field manuals. but why spend 20 dollars when the 4 dollar copy has the exact same information just not as slicked up. They even had an old Army 1911 field manual I was super tempted to get but I don't own a 1911, yet.

Decided to check out Going Home after watching this. Good read so far, and somewhat prophetic: "The stated goal of the plan was to provide aid in the form of food, water and clothing to those in need. The real intention was to remove any means of self-support from as many people as possible and make them completely dependent on federal aid to survive." Going Home pg. 263 Sounds vaguely familiar.

I really wish that Surviving the Economic Collapse book by Fernando was available in ebook format. I've looked but couldn't find it. I'm not really a fan of regular books, I much prefer ebooks because they're so much more easier to read for me.

NEW YEARS EVE . I got to thinking in light of all that's happening and I was a foriegn country wanting to catch another country off guard then new years celebration would be the time. Half the population drunk , all the noise , smoke , explosions, and flashing lights , they'd never know what was happening. Thrift books has some good used books at good prices. Its online but don't go buy all the used books listed in the video before I get mine.

No way. This library will get you a one way ticket to a body bag. How about Outdoor Survival Skills by Larry Olsen or Bushcraft by ol Mors Kochsnski. Trapping and primitive skills dominate this firearm centric BS. After spending a week in the bush with Cody Lundin, I know this list will get a city dweller killed. That first book listed in that library is on my list to burn. Also folks, if you run across The Trappers Bible as a book to buy, avoid it. You need a tree identification book for your areas, wild edibles identification books, etc.
