Reconstructing a severed body

Are you dying to know?

In this video, Tracy described the process she used to bring a poor person's body back together for a viewing, after a horrific accident in which the torso was completely severed and arrived in the mortuary as two separate parts in the body bag. The person was treated with total dignity and respect as Tracy worked to aesthetically repair the injuries and prepare the person so the family could say their goodbyes. It was an extremely confronting case and one that will stay with Tracy forever.
The mortuary work done to repair and reconnect limbs, and in this case, a severed torso, is done at the request of a family to view their loved one. The family are aware of the injuries that have occurred and feel a need to see their loved one before burial or cremation to allow closure.
It is the mortician's job to make this experience as least painful, horrific or upsetting for the family as possible.
Thank you for your support in watching this video. We believe it is important that the public has access to understand the work that is done behind the mortuary's closed doors, if they choose to.
Til next time,
stay safe,

I always watched my aunt do every single one of her clients from her hair salon. Every one of them knew that she was there for them for every stage of their beauty career…in life and in death.. … she always considered it her personal healing time to be able to say goodbye to a friend that she had so much connection with. Touching somebody’s head is very intimate … hairstylist half the time are therapists….. such an underappreciated profession. Carry on the good work, my loves

I’m deeply sorry for your loss and trauma. My son was also 23 and passed in Oct. However, no one would let me see him. I asked that even if they draped him with a sheet and I just be allowed to stand in the room (not even touch him), but no one would let me. There will never be closure in that.😞

I can not thank you enough for answering my question that I still apologize for about male genitals. 8 years before my son passed away he was in a house fire and burned 65% of his body and was in a coma for 2 months. He got his grandma and dog out and they went back in so he went back in to get them out again. His dog didn't get out. Grandma passed a week after the fire. I can still smell that burn smell of his body and it's a smell you wish you never smelled. He couldn't deal with the mental and physical pain and turned to heroin laced with fentanyl and that killed him November 11,2015. Love you both so much and missed you. So happy you both are back!!!!!!!

Sharing your story we hope has and will help through your healing because let's face it and I speak from experience (Tracy here) the pain of loss never leave us, we just choose to walk a different direction to help cope with our losses🙏 Please don't apologise about the genital questions honestly I really can not understand some people! We all have genitals in one shape or another it's just another part of the human body. We are glad to be back too, we missed you guys 🥰 Be kind to yourself always and take good care hugs from us both downunder 🦘🥰❤️

Thanks to a wonderful person like you we got to say goodbye to my Uncle, who died in a car crash. He was put back together so well you'd not have known how badly he was hurt. While working at the MEs office, a body came in and five minutes later, his head was brought in a cardboard box. My curiosity got to me but I learned a valuable lesson…”you can’t “unsee” what you’ve already seen.” Keep in mind, I wasn’t even 20 years old. Fascinating but so raw, it needs healthy processing. 🖤🖤

I say this with the utmost respect and love for my friend and his family. He was hit as a pedestrian and dragged under the car the weekend when Princess Diana died. I can't conceive how he suffered in those seconds before death. We who worked with him decided to go to the funeral home at the same time to support our friend, his family and each other. I will never forget what I saw. He should have never been in an open casket. He didn't even look like himself. We were all taken aback. His mom had a large framed picture of him next to the casket. he looked nothing like his picture. I knew him for years and I was shocked. My decision would have been closed casket. I make no judgement on his family for deciding differently nor do I make judgement on the funeral home. i cant imagine what they had to work with. It was a horrific accident. For me it was difficult knowing he was gone but the last picture in my mind of him was traumatic. rest in peace Jeffrey, you are free now...

It’s such an amazing gift you give to the bereaved. I lost my best friend in an accident years ago. She was missing for several days in July before she was found at the bottom of the gorge and they said to remember how she was and it still haunts me that I never got to say goodbye. I’d given anything to see her one more time. When my cousin passed in a motorcycle accident the weather was cold so even though he was laying in the field over a day he was still able to be fixed up and looked very peaceful.

What a lot of work!! God bless you for the hard work you do! A very special person to do this work. Treating the person with respect as well the the deceased’s family. A physically & mentally challenging job. As a mother, why would a mother want to see their child in such a state?! Why would you want that mental image seared into their memory?! Remember your child as they were not the trauma they sustained. As for me, it’s hard enough remembering the death of my mother ( which wasn’t peaceful) it’s haunting. God bless you for your amazing & important work.❤

I don't work in this industry but, I hear what you are saying and yes most don't want to see the 'Afterward' of what is left after a accident or burning death, yes, I too would not recommend a viewing. If a reconstruction can be done with less injury and can be covered and everything will look more normal, not saying exactly normal but close then yeh do this and have the viewing. Now with my husband's grandfather he died on the toliet and was not found for a week, so his head neck and upper torso was totally black (he was Native American and Caucasian). The mortician said she could not make him presentable, but she knew someone, who could do the reconstruction and make him as normal as possible. Yes, here in the USA they have very good reconstructionist. This was back in the 1980s and the reconstructionist did charge for his work since the face and chest did have to have a lot of work. The price was not all that expensive, considering it took three days to finish. Not sure if reconstructionist these days charge a pretty expensive amount. Not sure if the morticians here in the USA are reconstructionist or not, maybe? Any way when the family had the viewing, we were all amazed that he looked like he had in life, infact he looked at least two to three years younger and looked like he was just napping and might just wake any minute. The viewing was for everyone after the family saw him, as the decision had to be made to allow others to see him. Ladies thank you for your video's they are great and informative!

My uncle Robert Newton was brutally murdered on the 20 June 1994 he was 47, they found his body in a pond. We were told 1 day later on the 21 June. I went to the funeral home with my sister who asked if we could view him and the funeral director told us not to. I didn't want to see him anyhow like that, I just wanted to remember him the way he was the last time I had seen him. It broke my heart the day he died and still pains me to this day. I also thought about Emmet Till too, such a sad and horrific ending for a little boy. I loved how courageous his mother was, we should all learn from it but unfortunately in this world some do not. You Tracey are a star to behold taking care of those that are passed and still need care! xx ps, you can see my uncle's remembrance page at Wakefield, Yorkshire crematorium online.

I think people are beginning to realize that there’s a lot of procedures done to the dead that are not necessarily needed and can be an expense that is avoidable. Death is natural and we should not fear it as it’s going to happen to all of us. All you can do is be completely honest with the families and then obey their wishes. And when it comes to children I am not at all surprised when the parents need to see their child’s body. There needs to be proof as well sometimes. Thank you for sharing ladies xo

He was reconstructed and they had the visitation, which lasted for 3 days, and the funeral all there at the house. Much respect to you, and thanks for another great video!

Emmett Till was a young man ( around 12) that was visiting the city near his home apparently looked at a white woman, she told her very racist husband who got his buddies and killed that boy and threw his poor body in the river. They brought his mother in to view his body, and the poor mom said leave his body as it is, I want people to see what they did to him. This black family must have suffered so but, I saw his body (it's everywhere online even though it happened in the 30 or 40?) I found out the made a movie named Emmett Till...I can't watch it I would never stop crying....The husband and his friends were not convicted of any crime, and the woman admitted to lying.

When my mom passed I bought her bright red nail polish, a pair of high heels that she would have loved and I asked them to curl her hair for me and take a lock of hair. I always loved my mom’s hair and skin as they were so beautiful and not only do I have her ashes I have a piece of her hair. The ladies who looked after my mom did such a wonderful job with her and even sprayed her favourite perfume on her which we really appreciated. She looked so beautiful and had passed away with a smile on her face and she looked like she was snoozing and having a lovely dream. Although it was a shock to see her in her coffin she looked so beautiful and we had as long as we wanted to spend with her. We put letters, notes, photos and even her favourite mug with her favourite teabag in. We like to think that when she went on to her next life she looked amazing, had her hair done, her nails polished and heels to die for, and when we did that we both just sat and spoke to her and gave her a kiss and to be able to just do that really helped us to deal with everything. I always promised my mom that I would make sure she looked beautiful and I kept that promise. Thank you for doing what you do for people and their families. X

I have you ever just cried over a death or a group of deaths? I’m not typically squeamish, but I am very sensitive. I think I would be overcome with emotion if a child or children or especially an entire family were all killed in an accident, and the mortuary where I were was tasked with making all of them ready for a viewing. Do you ever have to blink back tears when a baby or young child dies? Have you ever had a situation where an accident has taken a whole family or the majority of a family? Here in the US we had 3 siblings all killed in a car accident with a drunk driver. So many beautiful young lives snuffed out so quickly. And the parents spend days at the cemetery just polishing and sweeping the monument over their graves. They each have a photo and give a brief description of their interests and accomplishments. And those things would play over and over in my head. I just know it. And thank you for always being so compassionate with the deceased and their families. You’re a very special person with a huge heart. ❤

What do you do with a person who has an ileostomy bag? Do they decompose super fast because their intestines are exposed? Seems like the gases would blow up really quick and cause problems.
@Areyoudyingtoknow
@Areyoudyingtoknow 6 месяцев назад
Hi, yes bacterial build up can be slightly fast but not always. The bag would be removed then would aspirate through that area then treat with a cavity fluid slowing down the decomposition. Thank you for your question take care 😊💚

I wish you guys were around here. My Cousin basically blew his face off with a 9mm. He was like a brother. I wish we could've seen him to say goodbye. Funeral homes where I live were like no reconstruction. You don't want to see him poor guy. No insurance and nobody else would pay for a reconstruction or a service. He was sent to the crematorium. Was very sad he was 39. I wanted to be in this business since I was like 16. I only backed out because I think I'd lose it with babies and children.

I lost a friend in 2000 to a murder/suicide. She was shot twice in the head with a sawed off 12 gauge shotgun, he then shot himself. She was only 16 and they had to identify her by a birthmark on her thigh so of course It was a closed casket. It's great that you are able to do this for families.

His mother had an open casket & even to this day 23 yrs later, I still remember what he looked like. They had to do some major reconstruction & Im sure they did the best they could but it looked nothing like him. Not only was it so hard to hear these stories, but it was hard to see you so affected, Tracy. But that just shows how much you care and how important your job is. I will always wish i could've seen my mom, but it was so sudden and i honestly didn't know what to do. She died so quickly then was brought back and on the ventilator for 3 days, swelling up from the fluids... I could barely look at her the entire time. And i was scared if i viewed her after, she'd look worse. I was extremely traumatized. But i know now, I should've seen her. I knew she didn't want to be embalmed, and we had to do cremation because of cost...but i wish i saw her before because i have no sense of closure. (As much as you can have with a sudden death of someone so important. I know you know exactly what i mean, having been there yourself.) ...Sorry for the super long comment! On a happier note, I'd love for you to be able to come to America one day! Would be so interesting to hear your thoughts on the differences here.
