can't you use the apple LUT as the preview LUT in Blackmagic Camera? as well as zebras, that should help with dialing in exposure.

First, the 15 Pros do not deliver enough power for NVMe enclosures... I have 2 4TB NVMe SSDs in the ACASIS TBU405 enclosure waiting for a USB C hub to complete my rig. Yes, with the cables it will look ugly! As far as traveling? I'm glad I served in the US Military, I use little bags that can be strapped to my 3 day pack to hold the accessories and in the 3 day pack, MacBook Pro and iPad Pro 11 inch. Weight? Meh, I used to do At Home Hardware tech stuff and Interned at a TV Station, so I understand limitations and Gaffers tape is your friend!

I wondered if this would work. Honestly at this level of complexity, I’d just use a normal camera. Apple need to give an option for high bitrate 10bit log h265

I’m doing this as well I have a small rig frame a mokin usb3.1 hub and a sandisk 2TB but my phone shuts the camera app of after about 20min if I plug power into the hub it goes longer but the image goes dark(from heat I thing but doesn’t shut down) any ideas?

why we try this? Is this a better solution than a proper DSLR camera for normal people or professional? I think neither

Like you, I have been experimenting with options. You can use the clean video feed through an HDMI adapter to a monitor - even BM Video assist. I have found that you can write to a micro thumb drive successfully. I use a display LUT to Rec 709 in the camera and have some power grades already in DR. What I like about the BMC app is you also write proxy files automatically. Just so many possibilities. The other option for audio which I have successfully used is an external audio recorder - mine is a MixPre 6 and a Tentacle Sync - that you can now sync with the iPhone. Just less of a Kluge on the tripod. I have some V batteries that now can serve as a power source to everything and mount them via clam to the tripod leg. We are just starting to unlock the full potential of these cameras. Oh, by the way - you can use a Tilta Nucleus M to start and stop recording remotely with the BMC app. I got one of the new Nano II and they do not work yet - Tilta and BM ware working to fix it. You then have some limited camera control options. The head is spinning on possibilities. Just keep experimenting and see what works is my advice to everyone. 👍👍

iPhone really needs to come out with their own media mod.

I use front camera to shoot apple ProRes log so I can see myself. I also use separate audio recording so I can sync it in post. This messed that you are showing is not working, it’s too messy. I have 512gb version but I still use Samsung T7 4tb SSD.

If you use a hub with HDMI out you can use some sort of monitor to see yourself

Hey Vic. Have you considered using an adapter and connecting an SD card as opposed to an SSD? I think you can get a usb-c SD card reader fairly cheap. It would also be less of a bulk and eyesore on the phone.

Hi Vic, I'm sure you're probably aware of this now, but just in case, get a MagSafe charger and a dongle that allows you to do Mike out and USB to a hard drive. Then buy a nice long cable and keep a Samsung T7 in your pocket, and just plug it in when you wanna start recording, or something around that, and that will keep less cumbersome. That said, I'm in agreement with you that small rig or you Lenzi need to put there heads around solving a solution. That's the most compact. Great video as always.

I'm still looking for a great solution. Instead of leaving all the gubbins in view like that you could sling a bag or other container with pockets (so you can check displays on the mic receiver) on the tripod, containing hub, SSD, power supply and mic receiver, and just run a single USB C cable to it. that would be easier to set up as everything lives in the bag. If self-filming put the bag on the filming side. To monitor the image when setting up, you can use an Apple Watch, or HDMI monitor. Useful to know about the power issue, though

Something using MagSafe, or a phone case that supports a slide on or magnetic adapter that is: a little brick that contains power, a hard drive, an audio in for external mic, a usb out to connect to phone, and a small flip out or up lcd to show the image and can be seen from in front the main iPhone camera.
