Deadly tornado from a supercell in El Reno, Oklahoma on May 31, 2013 nearly hits storm chasers stuck in traffic jam, after media tells residents to evacuate town just moments before the storm strikes.
This was my first tornado! I was mostly north of the whole circulation the whole time! At one point, I was directly in the twister's path and ended up only a half mile from it after it made that unexpected NE turn! I made a whole documentary of my whole experience!
My grandparents were in El Reno a day before this happened. Right after they left, this tornado happened. My grandpa told me that something told him to leave because something bad was going to happen so they did and little did they know that the biggest tornado in history was about to happen. They were also in a ef3 before but survived
It’s interesting to see some of these, and for veterans out there do RFD usually wrap or circle around the main vortex? Cause I see a lot of people calling the rain on the outskirts of the tornado RFD, and that wouldn’t seem right if this tornado was 2.6 miles wide in diameter. What they call RFD would be the tornado itself right?
0:37 to 0:44 --- On the right side of the center of the screen: is that an airplane? There's something shiny and blinking going left to right. Did anyone else notice that?
It was more having cars coming to a four way stop that caused the problem. One side go, then another side, and so on... The sheep issue was a tv meteorologist telling people they couldn't survive the tornado above ground, and for everyone to drive south. It cost some their lives.
This is the one that killed Tim Samaras and his team. :( It doubled in size in less than a minute, then it made a sudden left turn. Very dangerous work, props to all you guys that risk your life to study these and give others warning.
Yeah I remember seeing a news helicopter or airplane flying around up there. I think it was an airplane, because I'm pretty sure those inflow winds would knock a helicopter out of the air.
No it didn't at all, more like a mesocyclone on the ground. The only way I recognized it as a tornado was the motion of the rain curtains wrapping up into the circulation.
Jason Weingart you might want to reword that sentence. I would say it was the widest in recorded US history. We have no idea what went through 150 to 200 years ago when there wasn't anyone around. It was a big one though.
Twister Hunters did you feel it's power this 2.6 tornado. What was the wind speed? Did it growl and roar? You need the dominator car to be in to with stand this wide one. I actually was in NYC with my son in grid lock next to the Dominator with all the twister men sitting in it laughing my face off they were in NYC with that.
I'm sorry. But if a tornado is onthe ground and behind me, the cop will just have to write me that ticket. I'm running that stop sign like it isn't even there.
Would Reed Timmers Dominator be torn to pieces by this? im sure it would i dont think he would be dumb enough to go into this atleast i hope not Rip to Samaras and all those who lost their lives
If you want closer, look for James Birch's video. He's on S. Reformatory Rd, about 1.5 miles west of 81. He's come as close as anybody who lived through it
