Per tradition, I've covered the RSD 2024 guide focused on jazz vinyl (as well as blues) titles, taking on all the hard work and compiling it here for you. Hope this is helpful for anyone who is out there wondering what to prioritize this year.

If you're new to my channel, what you can expect from me is a vinyl collector's approach to the jazz genre. For years, I've only collected vintage pressings and prioritized originals of Blue Note, Prestige, Savoy, Bethlehem, Riverside, New Jazz, and more classic labels. Lately, with the resurgence of the medium and more collectors coming to the space, the music industry has taken notice and prioritized putting out high quality reissues of some of the best albums ever recorded. I think they sell so many of those Bill Evans that helps make some of the other lesser known artist releases more plausible

Be really interesting to get one of the RSD team on an interview, how they choose how many of each genre, and especially volumes would be very interesting

I’m getting the Bill Evans Yes too much Bill Evans - still getting it I will say my RSD buy will be way down - something like 25%

I don’t mean to be that guy but where is the miles davis? John Coltrane? Herbie Hancock? Make their A+ albums RSD and young people may pick them up. I get having Max roach etc but to actually get the youth into jazz it’s essential that these guys should be part of it

Record Store Day is unfortunately no longer what it once was, and that is a great shame, at least that is my opinion and experience. Circulations of 1000 or 2500 copies worldwide are of course a big joke. Record Store Day was once intended to stimulate independent record stores, but has now degenerated into a commercial campaign that mainly benefits music publishers. And above all, it is a drop in the desert when the LPs are largely bought by buyers who only visit a record store once, at most twice a year, because the rest of the year everything is bought online.

I can’t say that any of these releases are that interesting, with the Music Inc. live release perhaps being the exception. I will just spend my money on the Joe Henderson/ McCoy Tyner release coming out on Blue Note in late November. Also, Chicago era of Sun Ra is the best era of Sun Ra.

Except for the Remler I thought the titles uninteresting. April was a whole let better. I found some of the non jazz ones more interesting. Enough Evans; I skipped the last one.

What strikes me funny is that most of the VC community spends their money on reissues of records that they have grown up with and own multiple versions of trying to find the best sound!!! I own 4 copies but maybe this new release will sound better Kind of crazy and expensive
