While AV1 might show less artifacts, i did notice that in some cases it can make the video also look a bit more blurry (less sharp or clear compared to h.264 etc).

In this case you are really competing with OBS and the question is, what kbs are you setting in the App. I tend to record at 80,000 for 4K and it ends badly more often than not with AV1.

You might need to check audio setings for Geforce. Everytime I would unplug my headset then later plug back in, the input mic setting would change and not be selecting the correct one

AV1 is amazing so I'm assuming the 10MBps used here is for exaggeration, because even 1080p60 with 12Mbps and I still get jaggies with x264.

Yes, for sure. While they could feature an HEVC comparison, it's not going to be widely adapted as the next-gen format and is likely to lose out to AV1 for both RU-vid and Twitch (even enough YT already has HEVC support).

1. Yes, Nvidia App is the new GFE. 2. Probably, but we'll see once it releases tomorrow. Also, the new codec requires NVENC AV1 hardware support, which is currently available on RTX Ada GPUs only.

I downloaded the latest version (10.0.1.253) from the official website and tested it. But the AV1 video that I recorded cannot be processed by RU-vid. It's meaningless.

@@yathamseenu Yes, both video streaming and recording formats from OBS are OK for RU-vid to process. Nvidia's ShadowPlay always updates slowly, so we might have to wait for it for a while. BTW, I have tried using DSR to run games at 8K resolution and record them in 8K/H.264. RU-vid can process it to AV1, but the color saturation is a little too high.

AV1 was a marketing feature when 4000 series were introduced, so for almost 2 years we couldn't use AV1 features at all, and still cannot because AV1 livestreaming is not available through the app !!!!

Please add custom framerate like it's possible with OBS. Many games are locked to framerates that are not 30/60/120. For example, many arcade games run at 58 fps, 54 fps etc. Some old pc games run at 37.5 fps, others run at 70 fps etc. Recording all those games at a 30/60 fps container results in stutter as expected. Then there are also cases where you might not be able to maintain locked 60 fps, but you can manage locked 50 fps. Being able to record at custom framerate would solve the issue of stutters caused by mismatch game and recording fps.

@@chippyyyy H265 works on mine as well. You nimrod. The issue is that ShadowPlay doesn't encode with HEVC when recording SDR content, it uses AVC. Only when recording with HDR enabled, it encodes using HEVC. So what I'm saying is that why not have the option to use HEVC as well when recording SDR content.

Not gonna be possible. Both do not have the NVENC hardware to do live encoding - RTX 20 was made before AV1 really got solid ground, and RTX 30 series can decode (NVDEC), but cannot encode.

@@zip3704 It's because most people stream at 2.64 and not 2.65. This example was done at 10mbit, Twitch; the biggest streaming platform for gaming only has a 6mbit ingest cap limit; so yeah. In this example the 10mbit rate was more generous than you could get away with IRL.

Probably never, since the only hardware encoders are H.264, HEVC (since Maxwell second gen, fully fledged since Pascal/Turing) and AV1 (Ada Lovelace only). However, there is a VP9 decoder pretty much since NVENC/NVDEC started, so I wonder why they never bothered doing VP9.

@@Stridsvagn69420 Standards are/were in flux: everyone either uses H264 now, wanted to use HEVC in the future but then AV1 popped up in the horizon as the new 'open hotness' that all the big companies got behind...but AV1 wasn't really ready until after the early 2020s. By then, Ampere's design already finalized with AV1 Decode/No Encode. VP9 support even on RU-vid / Twitch was very limited, and will probably get replaced by AV1 in the future as well.

i mean if av1 needs a special encoder chip which didn't come out till the 40 series how you expect to have access to it on a 30 series, amd has the same exact issue with their 6000 series not having it and only coming out for the 7000 series, so stop crying, av1 was not really a thing in the encoding space until way later after the 30 series was even in development let alone when it dropped
