Great song! Man, those lyrics are very deep and moving! Especially the part that goes Bah dupp bah dupp bah dupp dah bah. I can relate to that because something very similar happened to me when I was a teenager.
This is going to be my first foray into recording and your video has been a concise and clear help in understanding how one goes about it. Thanks and good luck with the singing. 🤓
@@Producelikeapro Please let me know when you release your next lyrical masterpiece. Lol. Seriously though thanks for the video. I bought one a couple of years ago but I use mine with GarageBand on my iMac
@@JohnHWelch63 He's definitely skilled with the _Antares AutoLyric_ plug in. I could barely tell there was no physical annunciation or cognitive thought process.
Hi friends, please check out the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Studio Bundle. This is an extremely affordable option for those of you looking to get your first home recording setup. It comes with an interface, microphone, headphones, and Cubase LE. That's everything you need to start making great recordings! I had a blast opening it up and laying down a little song idea from scratch! I hope you enjoy watching as much as I enjoyed making it! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hi +Antonio Padia Great question! I didn't have to for Pro Tools, but you may have to for other DAW's. Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
I've watched so many reviews and videos, the way you "learned" the kit with your viewers really brought us behind the curtain and made the review so much better and practical.
What is a driver and buffer.. I’m not experienced in tech talk but am planing on buying one of these things. But I also have windows laptop. So my main question is, is it a problem having a windows pc?
@@iTzAtaXi No problem having a Windows PC. It's just preference. I, like many, use Windows for music production. The "driver" is software you install so that the computer recognizes hardware (the 2i2 audio interface, in this case). Once you have the interface, you can download the driver from the Focusrite website (or whoever manufactures your interface) and install it on your computer. Once drivers are installed it will give you options to mess with buffer & latency parameters. However, hold off on messing with anything until you actually notice latency problems while working in your DAW. Depending on your setup (like performance of your computer), you might not even experience latency issues and not need to mess with any of those settings.
"...being familiar with a something is probably more important than the product itself" is such a true statement! I've been mixing at home with M-Audio AV40s and BX5s. When I used to take my pre-pro to the studio, they'd always ask what I mixed them on! It's just bc I know the speakers, headphones, and other sources I mix and playback on.
This is the interface I will be starting on for Christmas, but I really appreciate how your review of the product actually showed you using it step by step and discovering its quirks.
I am not a big subscriber, but this channel is a must. As an artist, I instantly want to record with this guy. As a hobbiest/semi-pro music production guy, I want to study under him. And as a youtube viewer, I want to watch everything he's ever put out, whether it actually pertains to me or not. This was killer to watch. It reminded me of me when I was younger trying to record things for the first time with barely any gear and how excited I was when I succeeded in creating something and being able to listen back to it. Man, I love this no bullshit attitude he has of just using/improving your skill and not getting wrapped up in the tech and nonsense where people try and tell you that you can't do if you've got the "wrong" gear. This video just debunked that in 15 minutes. Everyone should want to go create something after seeing this. That song sounded great with very little going on there. This might have been the best 25 minutes I've ever spent on RU-vid. Keep this up, Mr. Warren. We out there trying to make it need more people like you - encouraging approach.
When a pro use affordable equipment, looks like they playing toys. When amateur like me use affordable equipment I'm feel like a pro.. 😭😂 Nice video sir.
@@Producelikeapro Amen to that, if you take the effort to try them out in the shops, you can easily hear what has a good price/ quality for your purposes. That's just what I was doing the past 22 years. Cheers.
That's it, this pushed me to make the leap and get all the gear needed for recording finally. Thank you for the very detailed tutorial and analysis sir!!
Great job Warren. Based on your review, I gifted a lifelong musical friend with this product. I know he'll love it. BTW... Just wanted to thank you for all of the great videos, and other resources.
Great teacher....I've been watching tons of these how to audio interface vids and throwing my shoes at the screen because people just sit around and talk for 20 min and say absolutely nothing useful...this guy gives you information you can actually use and gets at it straight away and is doing something while he's talking so he doesn't waste your valuable time you could be writing and recording brilliant hit songs...bravo
If I could have pictured an exact video I’ve been looking for this evening, this is exactly it in spades - fantastic job! Thanks so much for making Warren
i loove what you did , i am planing to buy the 2nd gen of this model , i think it has a much lower latency and many improvement and others things corrected from the 1st gen you used in the video , i play acoustic guitar and sing , am planing to use pro tools , do you recommend the 2nd gen of this scarlett 2i2 for me ? thanks you .
Loved this video Warren - was already using a Scarlett 2i2 but learnt more about it from this video than from months of my own usage! Marvellously well explained!
I actually just bought one of these to bring around with my laptop, it works like a charm and preamps sound good! Not as clean as the presonus class a amps though but good enough
Hi +noreaction Fantastic! I was really impressed, quick and easy to use and extremely affordable! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
I think it's a great thing that you focus sometimes on budget equipment to o. It seems that you haven't lost your feets from the ground and that makes your videos charming and informative as well as damn cool. Is also a great thing that you actually go through all the steps of a process on camera. Thank you and keep up the great work. Have joy and be sound
Hi I know this video is ancient but I started with the 2i2 and have recently moved onto the focusrite itrack dock/iPad/Cubasis as my recording rig, and I wanted to say that the Focusrite components are exceptional. I'm still using the CM25 as my go to mic, along with a Shure SM57 for some applications. I blew out the headphones so those have to be replaced. Also wanted to say THANKS for giving us a detailed review of the products, it's always nice to see the gear being used in a real application by someone who is (presumably) not being paid to promote it. Also refreshing to see it put to use by an actual musician, I get so tired or software and hardware being demonstrated by people making crap electronic music haha. I don't normally follow people on RU-vid, but I think I'll make an exception in your case. It's a shame that you don't use Cubase/Cubasis, they could really benefit from having someone like yourself showing how to use their software. (Or I should say I could really benefit)
I recently bought my 16 year-old a Scarlett Solo bundle for his birthday, which has the single channel version of the interface. Great set and wonderful quality for the money! Nice that you've given this set the thumbs up :)
Hi +edovinus Wonderful! Yes I was very impressed with it, I just love that for not much money we can start making music! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
When I used to produce videos 15 years ago. I would use the 1/8 inch line in input of my sound card. I can say this is a much better way. Can't wait to buy one.
having a bundle like this is an excellent starting point, it gets you started recording, and gives you an idea of what you want in your next equipment purchases, (ie do you dislike that style of head phone?, do you need more than two inputs etc.)
I watched the whole 25 minutes, and WOW just thanks finally found my money's worth. Have been looking around for seperate mics, interface and headphones and this just makes it simple, just gotta learn that Cubase LE hope it's not that hard. Again thanks for this! =)
I bought this and was a total novice. I didnt even know where to put mu cables in😂 no daw experience at all. But cubase is very simple if you learn the basics. There are a lot of great tutorials on youtube that will get you going in no time.
It's already been mentioned in the comments, but setting the buffer size much lower will eliminate any latency (but will use more CPU ). Also the Scarlett 2i4 has additional PAD buttons on each channel which are awesome for hot pickups as you can use the Inst setting and attenuate the input so as not to clip.
Hi +LaTigerGenesis Haha thanks! I'm good enough for some BVs and songwriting that's about it! Definitely not a lead singer! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
@@shauryamehta3062 The only thing that has changed between generations 1 and 2 is that they no longer include Cubase, but instead Pro Tools and Ableton Live.
Go down with the hardware buffer to 128 and you wont feel any latency at all...I'm using the scarlet for all my songs, I had the studio package but I returned it cause I did not like the mic. and I bought the Interface as a stand alone device, I wish I could have kept the headphones, cause they were good. Have a marvelous time recording :) Cheers
+Conny Conrad I was just about to say the same thing, about the buffer setting, but i thought i'd scroll down to see if someone else had "noticed" that :) The mic, judging by the size & shape, may well be something like an Alctron MC001 (aka. Apex 435) or some clone/rebrand of that. K67-type capsule (with a severe boost in the high-mids) with a linear Schoeps-type circuit - that's most likely what you didn't like about it :P
Hi +Conny Conrad Thanks for the info! I think for less than $200 for everything the mic sounds great! I liked the results, especially for the price! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thank you for helping me with this video Warren! I watched about 15 or more videos on RU-vid on how to set up and use the Scarlett for pro tools on mac, and none of the videos were as detailed as this one!
awesome product review Warren, by the way great, great, great performance even on vocals at the beginning I was a little afraid but you did it just great, congratulations! and thanks for sharing.
Wow, I was looking for this demo earlier (didn't find it and didn't know about you, just getting started at a young 70 years old. I purchased this literally 3 hours before I saw this demo and am glad to know it was a wise choice. I play ukulele and keyboards so wanted an 'all in one' type system and there you have it. I expect to have it by middle of next week and the fun will start. Thanks very much for this video, it's very interesting and there are lots of nice tips on it to help get me going. 70 you wonder and now he's getting into it? Yup, I used to do IT work, all computers so technology has never scared me and didn't really get into that field professionally until I was 31. 2 years later I was the supervisor of my team. I've seen many be scared of tech but that's not me. I'm slower than I was a few years ago but still quite capable of learning and can hardly wait.....I'm what you would call a 'young 70'. Again thank you for this video. I will likely watch it a few times, there is a lot of value there.
This is such a cool video! I love how you did that and showed people how accessible home recording is these days! Plus I really like how go from recording to mixing. Even if it's only with one riff or theme. Maybe you could do a series on how to record and mix different styles at home. Great work Warren!
You said you are not a professional singer but your technical skill made you one hell of professional singer 😆 Nice music. So this is how we create it. Thank you !!!
The great thing about this package for someone just starting out is that you get fairly good extras and a great interface for not too much money. If producing doesn't turn out to be your great passion then no great financial loss. 2i2's will certainly resell. If producing does turn out to be a great passion then you can and will expand. Even if you get a new and bigger interface, the 2i2 is a perfectly usable field interface. Even cheap headphones are handy to have around as extras and the microphone can also be assigned field duty so as not to risk your more expensive mics... recording Bull snorts at the rodeo or thunder and rain or whatnot.
Wonderful video!!! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm just about to dip my toes into the world of home recording, and I know I'm going to be a total caveman at the beginning. I'm a bass player / singer / keyboard player (The latter very badly though. In fact, if it was my main instrument, I'd probably starve!! haha) 46 years gigging (42 professionally) and this will be the first time sitting in front of the desk so to speak, as opposed to sitting behind it. I am very much looking forward to it, and thanks to your wonderful video demonstration, it's going to be fun delving into it. Once again many thanks. Sending you kindest regards, and very best wishes from Ireland
This is great! I was just looking into getting one of these just as something quick and easy for my bedroom, this just drove it home! Thank's for actually showing off what it can do Warren, much appreciated!
If you want to reduce the latency, reduce the "H/W Buffer Size:" in the Playback Engine settings. 256 Samples should work without pops/clicks and be low enough latency so as not to throw off your groove. Cheers!
+Stephen Tack Yeah for real dude! Just turn that sucker down! 512 is only useable for mixing. Tracking you'll need 256 or less. 256 should do the trick for most but some drummers might want 128.
Today I just bought a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Studio Bundle its still in box ;-) Amazing way to teach very professional, keep making awesome content, I subscribed and like you channel. Love from Karachi-Pakistan.
So when direct monitor switch is on, you can still hear the music coming from your daw? And if it's off, what do you hear a 50/50 mix of your daw and your preamp input (guitar or mic)?
Yeah, from what I gather, the ON position allows you to hear the guitar in real time without any DAW lag. You can still hear the rest of your recording as you play along.
+Alejandro Melo No..you cannot have '0' latency @ 512 samples. Has nothing to do with the hardware. I am sure he can run his macbook/focusrite @ 256 or 128 samples with what he is doing (couple of wave recordings).
+Flipsh0t I was thinking the same thing. Crank that ASIO buffer size down until the CPU just starts to have trouble keeping up, then pick the next largest size. If you're happy working in 44.1 kHz sample rate, you can get away with some super small buffers like you've got. Makes for great near-zero latency recording and monitoring!
Is your system optimized for 512 playback engine???? When I track my guitars, I either use 128 or 256. I rarely have latency. Plus maybe Eleven is adding to the latency???? Try putting the eleven on an Aux and printing???
Excellent Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 setup tutorial. Presented exceptionally well with ease of understanding. Detail explanations are superb. Not too technical, but enough to understand the controls response and how to use the controls. Job well done.
I loved this interface! I started with the 2i2 and loved it so much that I stuck with the Scarlett range when I upgraded to the 18i20. Focusrite makes such great products!
I started with the Scarlett Solo Bundle a few years ago. Over the past year I've upgraded all the pieces. Got a new computer. Started using reaper. Upgraded the headphones to the AKG 240s and then to Beyerdynamic DT990s (still use the AKGs or Focusrite phones for tracking because of the closed backs). Got myself an Audio Technica 2035 condenser mic (LOVE this mic, btw), a Shure SM58 and Shure SM57. I recently upgraded to the SSL 2+ interface. But I still use the mic cable. Haven't seen any reason to replace that yet. It's the perfect length if I'm recording right in front of my desk.
U ARE A GOOD INSTRUCTOR I LIKE U AND U DON'T TALK AN IRRELEVANT THINGS OUT OF THE PROGRAM U JUST GO STRAIGHT TO THE TUTORIAL ILLUSTRATION OF THE EQUIPMENT ONE BY ONE WITH CLEAR
Hi +Jvanmax Giudice Agreed! I just wanted to open it up for a few minutes and see how easy it was to use and it is very simple to use! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thank you! I've been umming and ahhing about this set for about a year now, and now thanks to your video I have a good feeling about it! Gonna go out and buy it this week :))))
Wow, I think I have discovered a new big channel, I follow 4 or 5 channels, and this is a new one. I have been producing music with a Pod Studio UX2 many years and I probably get this Scarlett 2i2 (not the bundle). You have made a really interesting video, showing the whole process. Incredibly useful. You have a new subscriber. PD: you couldn't low the buffer size to decrease the latency? recording hearing only the DI really bothers me. Would you choose this interface definitely in the range of under 200 usd?? THANK YOU!
Wow... you know you're making me buy this system and subscribe to your course as well, don't you? Music is my passion!!! Since a kid I always knew I wanted to make something from music and you're helping, even if I'm already 35. Cheers from Portugal!!
I have been podcasting for about 3 years now, and I have a range of Dynamic mics. I also have outboard preamps and compressors to help the audio sound as pro as possible. I recently updated my interface to the 2i2 from the saffire 6 usb. Because when you use outboard preamps you dont need a great interface because you are not using the pres inside the interface. Now as a podcaster Dynamic mics are the way to go, but the little mic included in the 2i2 bundle is a great little mic. people throw words about like "entry level" or "Beginner mic" take no notice of that crap. if you know what you are doing you can get most mics to sound as good as you need. and this little mic has taken the place of my Rode Procaster for a while as it sounds great.
