This is a little more about the Zoom H2. How I set it up for recording, and a quick comparison between the H2 and H1.

Thank you very much. You speak very clearly👍, and you're easy to understand, even for a French-speaking guy like me. Greetings from France!✌

Very well done video CaneMajor! Thank you for taking the time to help others and myself. I never realized how using a mono signal would help in keeping the subject balanced in the recording. I'm a stereo recording person myself but I see it's not always needed.

This ZoomH2 seems to be such a simple device to handle. Excellent job on the tutorial!

@guitartimr Thanks for the complement Tim! As far as the H2 as an external mic for the Zi-10, if you can replace the audio from the Zi-10 with the .wav file from the H2 with your editing software, that is the best option. If your software doesn't have that capability, you will have to take the time to adjust the output from the H2 and the input on the Zi-10 to get the best recording, every time you record. This can be a chore.

Excellent video. The h2 is a great recorder even today in 2021. The display is tiny and difficult to read. For this reason: I recommend keeping the light on (as explained in the video)

@CaneMajor Thanks for the quick reply. I tried out your suggestion today with good results. Replacing the ZI-10 audio with the zoom H2 audio is the way to go for me . I tried using the Sony mini stereo mike directly into my ZI-10 and had a lot of fuzzy background also. I have listened to some of your music and do appreciate your talent. Isn't playing music the greatest ?? Thanks again, Tim

Hi Man, great channel! You have helped me a lot by explaining tech stuff in your films. Although, regarding to this vid i would like to share one thing with you either ;). You do not have to adjust the distance between you and the device. It is much easier to stay with a close distance and adjust "rec level" in the H2, by just pressing FF or REW arrows. I do not play the flute, so I do not know if it is a big difference in sound, but from my experience, it is easier to get better sound when the recorder is as close to the sound source as possible. Again, thanks Man, good job, keep doing!
@CaneMajor

Hello! It takes two hands to hold the flute to play it's loudest note. So, instead of playing, stopping, adjusting and repeating the process until you have the levels you want, especially with the buttons on the H2, and for each individual flute, it was easier to set the gain once adjust the distance to get the desired level. Also, it is up to personal taste when recording flutes, if you are in close you will record the flute in greater detail however you will also pick up wind and mouth noises. Back when I made that video my technique was very prone to wind noise. My technique has improved significantly since then so when I record with the Zoom H2n's mid mic only I position it a lot closer now. Cheers.

+CaneMajor - So, if you wanted to use it in 120 degree mode you just select that function and turn the mic the opposite way? I've heard doing this the recording will be reversed. It's something to do with facing the user and opposite the user? Can you explain that. Gerat video, thanks.

+Alex A On the old H2 the front of the unit is the one that has the screen and buttons. This side has the two mics at 90 Degrees. The rear of the unit has two more mics arranged in the 120 degree pattern. So, if you wanted to record in 120 degree mode you need to record with the back of the unit facing the subject. This is reversed on the H2n! Good luck!

Hey there, i like the video it's very informative, what i ws wondering about the H2 is if i'm going to be using it to interview people as in hold the mic to them which option would be good to do? so for example if i held the mic controls towards the camera would i have to have it set to record in the rear
@meltingthedragon24
@meltingthedragon24 3 года назад
Also, I am getting a buzz when I plug in headphones to the H2.... it causes me to record without monitoring the recording...... any suggestions?

Where did you buy that voice? :)
@CaneMajor
@CaneMajor 13 лет назад
@Airlim If you set the mic controls towards the camera you could record from the rear in a 120 degree pattern or in 360 degree mode which would record both front and rear. Having the controls facing you is a good idea because you could see the meters and be able to make minor adjustments while you are recording.

I love how you teach! Slow and clear. I hate being taught by an auctioneer! Can I use the H2 USB to plug into a power bank to use should the batteries die?
@CaneMajor

Hello! I don’t see why not. I’ve used the same technique for the H1 and H1n. Good luck with your projects!

Wait a minute. The H2 has a separate adapter for power. You'll need an adapter cable to go from the power bank to the power input not the USB port.
@geminidream4347
@geminidream4347 2 года назад
@@CaneMajor No not a separate adapter but it does have a USB port. I know some people are using the H2n with a power bank. I just wasn't sure about the regular H2. What I am needing this for can drain regular batteries in a blink so I need another source to keep going. Going to have to make sure I bookmark the H1 vid. on how you did it.

Hello! Mechanically it still works but it's a little beat up. I expected the buttons to wear out because they looked like the weakest link but they still work! Right now It's in my retired equipment exhibit. Cheers!

I own a Kodak ZI-10 and also a Zoom H2. I have tried using the Zoom H2 as the external mike and record directly into my ZI-10 to create a video playing the guitar. So far the audio has too much background noise. Is this a common problem? Am I better off to record audio on my H2 and the video on ZI-10 then mix them on my computer ? Thanks for to good videos you post. Tim
