You should really make it clear that you can only recover 500mb! That seems kinda sketchy that you hide a nearly $100 price to save peoples important files in your video.
I agree. Took nearly 24 hours to scan a 1Tb drive, only to find that I could only recover 500Mb without paying $100 for the full program. Should have been made clear from the start of the video.🤔
you mentioned "if you're drive is not being recognized this video is for you as well" I connected my hard drive and it doesn't see it, however, after reading the comments this only saves 500mb unless you pay for the full program. This is something you need to mention so you don't piss people off and waste their time.
This helped me! Thanks so much. I was able to recover over 2.12 TB (260,625 files). Mostly cell phone photos and videos for the last 8 years. Anyhow. I had to upgrade my iCloud storage for the 2tb plan (at $9.99) for the month to be able to store the photos for the short term. All things said, this was the only thing that worked for me, and I was so devastated to have almost lost all these files. What did I do to lose the files in the first place? I got a MacBook 13" a few days before the 15" came out (because I knew I didn't want the bigger one). Well guess what? Turns out I did want that bigger one, and I'd already set up my MacBook the way I wanted, so I used the hard drive to back it up, not realizing that I had formatted and erased the hard drive in the process. This process has taken 7 hours and 11 minutes so far and I have a few hours to go. Big learning lesson!!! Thanks again, I'm just happy to have the photos back!
My issue is a physical one. I have an older 750 GB. Yes, before the 1 TB ones came out. Somehow the plug in to the hard drive came off around the cord plug in. I have the case off. Do I need to solder the plug in piece back on? You are a real Pro at making videos!
We recommend you ask professionals to fix that for you. It can be either a Computer Repair, or a Data Recovery Center or even the service center of the manufacturer of your drive.
Andrew, great video. My pc needed a fresh windows 11 download. This wiped everything out. I have a WD My Book. Is Disc Drill they wat to go. Thanks much.
I own a WD 1 TB passport external harddrive. When plugged in theres a clicking noise and does not work or load up on the desktop. Any suggestions on how to get this fixed ? so that I can recover my photos and videos? cheers
I have a wad 5tb external hard drive. I accidentally tried to load too much data and it does not work. I changed the wires and the computer input but no change. Light comes on. It’s a solid state hdd. Now it will not show up in my Windows disc manager. What should I do? Thank you
Hey I paid for the lifetime version and while I can find my files I have a lot of confusion about the WD ext HD I am recovering. I can use some real tech support! So far I have not gotten very far and it's been over 6 months. thank you!

For some reason, he can't understand my questions! I am on a Mac and working to restore external HD. I have been talking with a person, but finally gave up :( I need someone to see what I'm needing. I've sent screen shots etc.... Do you have a specialist for that? thank you!
Thanks, very helpful. My dilemma is western digital is down. I bought this network drive called my cloud. I cant access it anymore. What i did i took the actual drive and put it on an new casing. AFTER the drive was installed to the new casing my pc does not allow me to access the dive unless i format the drive. How could i fix this problem?
Can this be used for a hard drive formatted for Xbox 360? My console says unformatted and has stopped reading the drive. I want to move all the data to a new hard drive.
Dear Sir, First to thanks the tutorial I have a question. I lost my data when I convert the disk type NTFS to exFat. Which type the disk type should do when I start the recovery, exFat or NTFS ?
Thanks for commenting! NTFS is the standard format for use in internal hard drives on a Windows PC system. exFAT is an advanced version of FAT32, but it is less compatible with older systems and hardware.
I have a Transcend 1TB ex. drive which In tried to format and suffered a power outage (Common occurrence her in South Africa) now I cannot access the drive but the drive size shows.
The fact that the drive couldn't be mounted normally was probably caused by something that went wrong with the directory. You can probably still recover files. Please, scan it with the free version of Disk Drill to check.
You also said that this video was for the Western digital external hard drive not showing up but hello it doesn't show up and how can you recover if it doesn't
I hope I will be successful. Do you connect the 1TB WD external HDD form Hikvision NVR (video surveillence camera system) to MacBookP with a USB to USB cable or the HDMI (to HDMI) cable please?
Hey, great video. I have a really old WD ext HD from around 2004ish. I plug it into the lap top and it lights up with the inner workings making whirring noises. However, it doesn't get recognised at all on my laptop? Any help would be appreciated.
Сheck Disk Management to see if it appears without a letter or is marked as unallocated/RAW. In Device Manager, look for any errors under "Disk Drives" or "USB Controllers" and update or reinstall the driver. Physical damage might also cause the issue. If none of these work, further diagnostic or recovery methods might be needed.
I have a really old WD ext HD from around 2004ish. I plug it into the lap top and it lights up. However, it doesn't get recognized at all on my FILE EXPLORER. No noises. Just a green lit circle.
That is hard to predict since it depends on many factors, including your Drive size and health, as well as your computer performance. If your Hard Drive has a hardware malfunction, including bad sectors, then this might be the reason Disk Drill is taking longer than expected to complete the scan.
thank you for the tutorial. I came home and my 5TB external hard drive (WD My Passport) was on the floor (my cats doing). It now won't open. The light keeps blinking and I hear it working but I can't get it to open on my HP Envy Windows 10 computer. Can it be fixed by Disc Drill? I can't find the link to Disc Drill in the description so you receive the credit? Thank you for any help.
Hi bro I dropped my wd external hard drive from the table now it was not showing in this pc my laptop couldn't recognise my hard drive and the device manager and disk management also not recognising the drive pls help me to solve this it has alot of memories of my life🥺🥺
Thanks for the video. When I connect my WD external HDD nothing shows up in disk management. As soon as I disconnect it, other drives show up. Last time it became full, almost nothing left free. It's a 2TB MY PASSPORT ULTRA. Could the issue be the HDD being full?
It's unlikely that the HDD being full is causing it to not show up in Disk Management. Typically, even if a drive is full, it should still be recognized by the system. The issue might be related to a faulty connection, a damaged cable, or a malfunctioning port. Try using a different cable or connecting the HDD to another USB port to see if it resolves the problem. If the issue persists, there could be a problem with the drive itself, and you may need to seek technical support or consider data recovery options.
What’s up brother. I have a western digital 1TB external hard drive. I put all my laptops storage into the drive and I put a password on it. YEARS later, my laptop got full again, I went to try and do the same thing, but I forgot my password. Would this process work? Thanks!!!! ❤❤❤
i have a problem with my mac that doesn't show the SD card that i know is corrupted. I tried disk drill but it does not show on disk drill either. can you help me with that?
@@cleverfiles i tried it doesn’t show anywhere. I put it in the camera and it says there is a card on the camera but it won’t show on my Mac is there a way to get it to show?
I have used a Western Digital My Passport to back up my Lenovo Yoga 510 which was done successfully...I had to do a factory reset of the Lenovo, which was done successfully, however I now want to retrieve the data from the WD drive....when I plugged the WD back in to retrieve the data on it back to the Lenovo, the screen that I am getting is not showing all the data that I had backed up...as a precaution, I also back up the folders seperatly onto the same WD drive in case I had to reload them individually...I thought I should still be able to retrieve files from the WD ext HD after a factory reset?
Make sure hidden files are visible, check all folders, and use WD Backup software if applicable. Manually browse the drive and verify it in Disk Management. If issues persist, use data recovery software like Disk Drill, or try accessing the drive on a different computer. Running chkdsk can also help identify and fix drive errors.
This could be due to physical damage, file system corruption, software issues, or malware. Troubleshoot by trying different USB ports or cables, checking disk management utilities for recognition, using diagnostic tools to assess drive health, and scanning for viruses. If these steps don't resolve the issue, consider seeking professional data recovery services or contacting the manufacturer for assistance.
I went to update my Mac book at 3 am clicked on my external drive instead of the Mac drive. Didn't realize my mistake until it was finished downloading. I can't see any of my previous files on my external now only the Mac os stuff can this help me?
Hi, I'm using a Mac and the problem I'm having is that the WD hardrive is not showing up on my Mac, I hear it running etc, but it's not showing on my desktop. Thank you.
Sir I have a western digital my passport 2tb external hdd. I have locked it with the company's security sofware and forgotten the password. Is there any way to SAVE THE DATA/FILES in it, as the last option it provides is to erase/format the hard disk to reset the password. Please help me asap.
My WD 2 terabyte tower hard drive will not turn on long enough for me to extract the back up files. Geek Squad said "sorry" I guess their extractor couldn't help. Help?
Hello, my son has the 8tb WD black external hard drive. He uses it for his XBox 1x and all of a sudden the Xbox is not recognizing the drive. I moved it to my series 1 and it still doesn’t show up as an additional storage source. Any suggestions before I replace it?? Thanks in advance.
Hi I was trying to copy my android photos and videos into an already used external drive with lots of data. I created a folder and copied the photos and videos but the previous files seemed lost and just the new one is sitting there. How can I recover old files?
Dear Sir First to all thank for this tutorial ! In second i wanna inquire about my external hard disk 3TB western ,Effected by ransomware due to that attacked time it was attached with my PC. So my all files are effected due to this attack on my PC . How i can recover my Data. All data is available but the file format is changed in (.eemv) file format. What i can do best to make my file again readable and viewable.
I've got Disk Drill running a scan right now, it's been stuck at 20% for 8 hours now and says it detects "unreadable sectors" and might find more. So, I don't know what I should be doing at this point. Keep waiting? Or give up?
Question: Because I'd rather ask first and being as that I have little to no clue WTF I am doing, will it work for attempting this on MyPassport when the message that pops up is the following E:\ is not accessible. The file or durectory is corrupted and unreadable. Thank you in advance for any help what so ever. It is greatly appreciated
HI. I formatted my USB 3.0 WD My Passport 2627, I want data recovery by your soft DiskDrill could not help me, tell me what is the reason or the HDD is encrypted and you need to solder the SATA connector.
Hello there, My External hard drive can’t show my files and the drive in Windows explorer , and when open device manager it’s tell my need WD SES Device or update it. I tried to connect in another PC but still the same problem. my question is the files and date deleted or there are solutions.
help! I dropped my WD passport. Now i cant detect in windows explorer. Tried disk drill but it's not detecting. Although when I plug it in it glows up the light! how can i do this?
Sure. You can use another external drive in this case. When you recover your files, it's extremely important to select a destination different from the location where you lost the file to save the retrieved directory. Otherwise, the files may be overwritten.
My western digital passport backed up to a duplicate passport in the form of one .tibx file. That Disk Drill just presents that same .tibx file in the result. What do I do to get Disk Drill to open that file? I'm really feeling like swearing off backups completely and just copy one hard drive to another. At least that way, if something is corrupted or lost, the loss will not be everything.
Can I purchase Disk Drill Pro and store it on a pendrive so that I don't lose the license in case I have to format the windows? Will it still work if I use Disk Drill via a pendrive for recovering data from D drive?
Hello, my issue is that all of a sudden from working with no problem to suddenly having issues watching the movie and it got choppy , then the wd passport suddenly became very slow , I unplugged it from my iPad and plugged to MacBook latest softwares running , trying to back up a 4gb file now takes over 6 hours and so I have a feeling it’s failing even tho it passed first aid test … I just want to move the files to another drive or the laptop. Would very much appreciate any help to get my files out of the drive before it dies
Hi I made my hard drive as bootable with out knowing while upgrading the windows and now it is showing only 32GB for 2TB. So how to change it back without loosing my previous data like more than 1 TB. Please help. Thanks in advance.
I have tried disk drill in my passport 1T hardrive but it say there is no data to recover.. I got so many data in it before it is reformatted. But when i tried rcovering it using diskdrill it says no data even one. What should I do?can you please help me.
My problem is totally new! Although it happens to me once and I thought it was a glitch, but it seems like it's happening again and I cannot find the reason so I avoid this issue! I use 3-4 WD passports one the same PC but I connect only one per mission, and sometime I connect two at the same time to move data between them. The problem is that suddenly and out of nowhere one of the passport shows folders from the other passport and its original folders are gone. Not only this! It also doesn't allow me to open the wrong folders in it. It just make me crazy!!! How it's possible that the data of Passport-1 disappears and all I see are folders from Passport-2. And Passport-2 is working fine and shows its folders normally. Okay I'll pay to recover the data, but it keeps on happening and I have not idea how to avoid it. Please help!
my wd external drive is protected with password by its native password system and i forgot the password not able to remember please five me a solution how i access my data. very important data are present in hard drive. can you give me a solution......
If you've forgotten the password to your WD external drive's native password system, accessing the data becomes quite challenging. WD drives are designed with security features to protect your data, and this includes robust encryption tied to the password. Contact WD Support, as they may have methods to help recover or reset the password, requiring proof of ownership. Consider professional data recovery services if the data is crucial, but this can be expensive.
@@cleverfiles I contacted to WD support but they say you have to erase existing data to again access the hard drive. by the way how much it will cost to fully recover 2tb of data? in rupees!!
I'm looking through my files on the WD easystore I have, and I have more than 1, but this was supposed to be backing up my files....And all I see are a bunchj of .c74 ext files, and .LAST. Then I see folders titles History\Volume{ bunch of # and letters} Within those look like the files but they are extensions added on to the original ext with _LAST. Also, the files are photos, and they should be huge, but they are 18byts , etc WHAT THE FILE is going on around here? I have to say I HIGHLY dislike the WD easystore sw, and I already have Acronis, or HAPPY to use others, but does WD encrypt the files? or have they gotten corrupt?? Also, I have 2 WD easystore, and the sw only sees 1. it really is trash. Then the Discovery installer only installs with a netconnection and you saying you are OK to share info. What a classic cluster fail of a department that set this up. I would shuck the POSs, but I dont have much internal room. So external it is, and they have a decent hardware package. I just want it to bahave like a drive I select a folder, and it simply makes a copy of that folder, and place the copy under the Easystore drive letter. How hard is that?
Formatting my 4TB hard disk to format memory. Now I have a lot of important data left. I showed some xexperts and they said the new model harddisk is not recovering. It will take 2/3 months to actually do the new system.....any help???
Hello, I recently dropped my WD HDD external drive now the light lights but Windows does hot see it at all It was relatively new (december) 5TB easystore any hope?
Disk Drill is a data recovery software that allows you to recover both existing and deleted data from drives and different devices. You can download it from our website: cleverfiles.com
This is misleading ... any data more than 500MB then you have to pay $ 135 USD to recover them provided that recoverability is High ... sorry but i can tell this is paid add for the software ...very disappointing !
You can use a software of your choice! here you can find more ways to recover data from WD drive: www.cleverfiles.com/howto/wd-passport-data-recovery.html
My issue I believe is physical as well. I had a few things in my hand and my passport slipped out my hand. When I plug it into computer I hear clicking noise and the passport does not show up in any of the drives. Any advice? Can my music and picture still be recovered?
Thanks for your feedback! I’ll make sure to mention upfront that you can recover up to 500 MB for free with this tool. This tutorial is meant to be informative and to show how the process works-you’re free to use any tool that fits your needs. Remember, developers work hard to create these tools, and they deserve to be compensated for their efforts.
