Recovering An Old 1950's Record Player Restoration [DANSETTE]

This is a vintage 1950's record player I picked up very cheaply and it was in a bad state so I decided to bring it back to life and also recover the outer casing with some period Rexine as used in the 1950's when this record player was made.
I didn't have any green rexine but I did have some red and that went well with the white vinyl cloth that I used for the front of the record player. Hope you enjoy. I'm still recovering from an infection do decided to upload this video to keep you amused till I am back to full strength.

Turned out very nice in the end Martin.As you say rexine is a lot easier to work with and very durable.I have recovered a few old Hacker and Roberts radios and it was the thin foam underneath the rexine not the rexine itself that had perished.You still look like you are under the weather Martin,hope you are back on top form soon.

Im picking up an old stewart manhattan (nz made player kind of similar to the dansette) doesnt have rexine on the case but it is painted which makes my job alot easier since i can just sand off the tired old paint and respray it in whatever combo i want and clear coat it to get that high gloss look they had as new back on it. Should be a fun little restore for me

That works to get the glue off, but a little less of a manual way to do it is to just use some acetone, it'll dissolve the glue and make it easier to just take the paper or whatever off. :) Nice job on the resto though, looks good!

Hi! So I’ve got an old shenzen 3 speed record player and I’m wanting to upcycle it and make it look nicer as at the moment it has a brown plastic lid and dark brown wood around it. You’re the closest I’ve found to someone knowing how to custom record players so can you help with how do I go about changing the record player colour? Can I paint the box? Do I need to unscrew it and take it out first? Any help would be appreciated I don’t want to break it!
@RetroHax
@RetroHax 3 года назад
You should remove the deck so you can restore the moving parts. If you are not comfortable with restoring the electrics, get someone else to do that. You can then restore the box to your taste. Enjoy.

Great job! I’m trying to restore My Conquest Auto, and I would much rather Rexine over any other material, if possible as I know Rexine is hard to come by now. I’m also thinking of making mine red and white. Edit: We also have the same thoughts, I was thinking of leaving the original rexine on the lid and under the deck. Thanks
