Don't typically send these comments! But some of y'all have pointed out that I technically condoned violence. You know what, good call out. But we're leaving this up to show what my natural reaction was. But to everyone reaching out on that, thanks actually! Keep standing up for what you believe in. Much love.
I agree with you 100%...Many people think that condoning violence is morally wrong but so is being a violent person!!! Therefore, it is usually a normal human's reaction to say exactly what you said...It was my reaction to this song and still is every time I listen to it!!! It usually ends up the exact opposite...nobody steps in to help and the woman ends up dead! Better him than her....I wish someone would have done that for me and my Mom when I was a kid!!! Love your reaction!!!!
When my daughter was 16, I came home from a week business trip. I could tell something wasn't right. Asked my wife what was up, she said nothing. My daughter would barely speak to me. I cornered my son, and he said don't worry dad, I took care of it! They all knew better than to tell me!
I had to be that brother once. I have never seen fear in anyone else's face like the fear in that a@#holes face. He was so tough beating on my sister. But never again i can still remember the sound of his crying and begging. No man should ever let that type of behavior go unpunished. It happened over and over cops could do nothing to stop him. My boys know this story and know what is expected of them if it ever happens to either of their sisters.
The most striking part to me was he asked God for mercy, not the court. This story is about a man of conviction , not a man being convicted. I’m a retired police officer, I couldn’t count the times I was obligated to arrest people that in my gut I wanted to shake their hand.
I’ve listened to this song so many times, seen the video multiple time but your reaction-made me cry. Music is something that is so personal to people and it’s overwhelming and emotional when someone else GETS IT the way you did. I just stumbled on your channel but I am now a subscriber. ❤
A mama of 1 girl. I've told my whole family, mess with my children I will serve life and get the DEATH PENALTY! I WAS USED AND ABUSED! THIS HAVES TO END!!!!!
@@tailoreaguilar7331 Lets clarify..... Taurus Judge, a 5-6 shot revolver chambered in .410 (shotgun) shell or .45 long colt ammunition. A "judge under the seat" is basically a small shotgun revolver.
Southern women are raised understanding what it means when a man says "wait in the truck". Dont ask questions, dont argue, the man has business to take care of and you dont need to know about it or see it. This is a real man and an avenging angel. And where im from hes a hero.
Absolutely. I can get away with a lot with mine but he'll give me that look. Mmm. He'll say Stay or Wait Here. I know when he serious like that to mind myself. Though he knows if things get rough I got his back.
Younger reactors always seem to be amazed at the "story" aspect of many country songs. Our lives are stories made up of stories. Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley and many others are going to blow your mind as story tellers.
If i am ever on a jury for something like this or sex trafficking or child abuse, there's no way i could ever vote for guilty. Never ever. To me, the helpers and/or protectors are pure heroes!
@@mfee2079 Really? and how do you know this. Did you blow up the video and do CIS investigation on it? And why are all the music sites reporting it as a Taurus Judge, even the National Billboard site? But I'm sure they're all just reporting it wrong and you know better.
This was my first time listening to this song and your reaction. I can say in all honesty, having raised three daughters that my reaction was exactly the same. I also told my wife that if anyone ever put their hands on you or our daughters, I will go to prison for what i would have done. Peace my brother and keep on keeping it real.
out of over 100 reaction videos ive seen to this YOU are the only male that 100% gets it and understands that society has stood back and watched DV become an epidemic... those of us that have been in her situation felt this to our souls.
When this song came out, it made me go back and revisit 90s country because of those themes and storytelling. And in between, Miranda Lambert came out with Gunpowder and Lead.
Probably had that 4.9L (300 ci) straight six in it. It's 1991-1996 era F150, but at the CMA Awards (sponsored by Chevrolet) the truck was an old Chevy used as the prop on stage 😆.
@Gregory Faulkner it's because that Chevy quite running years ago 😂 I grew up in a FORD or nothing family lol. My dad about had a stroke when I bought a Tundra 😂
Me too. I always told my daughter y'all will get into arguments. But if he ever lay's a hand on you it becomes my business then. She is my daughter I'll be damned if a man will hit my daughter. I'm a Mama .
HARDY released this song and video and also released it as a single to radio all within a couple days apart. He gave fans only a day or two notice, but on the day he announced a new song, he said it was probably the best song he's written. Now understand that HARDY had already dominated all the songwriting awards in Nashville the last couple years before this song dropped. I think even HARDY fans who know his talent were surprised with how good and powerful this song and message was; and not only that but the credits reveal that HARDY was behind the concept of the video as well. It's directed by the regular Wallen-HARDY-ERNEST video director. But what fans of HARDY do know is that if a modern country song and video could come out this good and powerful, HARDY would be the one to do it!
I wish they would do a documentary on the behind the scenes making of this video. Every detail is perfection and was well thought out by someone. I especially like the clothing/wardrobe chosen. The woman is dressed modestly and appropriately for both her court appearance and her prison visit. No gratuitous half naked women in this video. I live in Nashville and while I can find humor in seeing countless I'm-from-the-country clichés, I gotta admit that we really do dress/act/react just like that. ❤❤❤
Hardy is one of the best songwriters at the moment. Hands down. Thank you for reacting to this!! I stand by my comment…. Domestic Violence survivors needed this. Most of us never get any redemption…. So even if it’s just a fantasy in song, it absolutely helps. Thank you Michael Hardy!
It may be a fantasy in the song, but it's anything but fantasy IRL. It affects 10's of thousands of Americans, men as well as women and children, on a daily basis...animals too. Sadly, abusers come in all sexes, sizes, shapes, and ages. There are so many types of abuse. It's not just physical.
As plenty have said as a Domestic Violence survivor this song is pivitol, we rarely see that in strangers and we usually bare the storm alone... I am a 22 year Domestic Violence survivor, have had to replace all my teeth because of it, my abuser still stalks me but I'm still here...
God Bless you 🙏 sweetheart, I'll definitely pray for you, My X husband of 19yrs abused me to the point that when I did get out,he hired a man to kill me,I was on life support for 6 weeks and in a coma for 2 months, I has memory loss, I've been through 2 brain surgeries, I'm 60yrs old now, that happened 31yra ago I've gotten 85% of my memories back, he's dead,I'm happy now,not just because I survived,it's because by the Grace of God he was there with me,to give me the strength to survive, your in my prayers 🙏
And you shouldn't have to live like that! Not sure where you're from, but if you were in my neck of the woods ( SE Georgia), I have some connections and would gladly help you or any woman( and yes I said woman... I'm not into the whole pronouns and what someone identifies as nor am I homophobic, I'm just saying that if any woman is being mistreated by a man, I'll help anyway I can. If a trans woman is being beat on by a man, then I see that as a man beating on another confused man!) But anyway, I'm not saying I'd help out the exact same way that Hardy did, but I'm not saying I wouldn't either! I am saying it's up to him as to whether he learns his lesson or becomes the next Jimmy Hoffa! There's a bunch of hangry Gators and Sharks around here in South Georgia!
@@memorywhitton5527 So glad it's over, and very sorry it ever happened. Men who commit reoccurring partner abuse, should be neutered. Repeat offenders should get life without parole. No I've never been abused, but have way too many friends and family who have.
It was awesome when he is standing at the front of the truck. It gives the impression that he is still protecting her from what was going on. Like he was trying to be a shield.
David Allen Coe once said the perfect country/western song must mention; trucks, momma, trains, prison, and gettin drunk. I think HARDY has almost written the perfect country/western song.
I asked myself, “Who can’t appreciate this?” This is American justice. She did not deserve what she got. Her abuser deserved what he got. Her protector deserved what he got. All the way around it was just. I can’t understand the people who can’t see the circle of justice here. Good reaction.
My mother stopped her car for a woman getting beat at a bus stop outside of ATL. She was 100 yards from my dad's work and lit into that guy. She was 66 years old and had her 3 granddaughters, ages 12,11 & 9, in the car. The 12 year old being my daughter. She's yelling at the girls to go get Papa who was at the Harley Davidson shop. He was gone by the time my dad got there, but the young woman did need an ambulance. Mama's 81 now and would still do it. She's not as spry now and my dad is gone. She and my grandmother taught us to stand up for others. We aren't always the smartest of situations when we do it ,whether minor or major, but we're all redheads and tend to not overthink and just help.
Fun fact: Hardy got songwriter of the year 2022 Ernest is also a songwriter and released his first solo album BOTH write with Morgan Wallen and helped with his albums too. They work together 😎😎😎 Morgan Wallen is taking both of them on his 2023 tour. AWESOME TRIO!!! Taking care of each other 🔥 reaction dude! Keep up the great work 😎👍🏾
My sister had an abusive man a while back and I literally told her these same words. I pulled up to their house got out of the truck pointed and told her wait in the truck. Didn't kill the guy but I'm sure he wished I did
the next guy will if he did not learn his lesson. my moms ex back 15 20 years ago got beat badly by me, he done it again a year or so later to another women and the judge came calling.
Heck the judge and prosecutor(both unofficial family)in my county both told my family and extended family that whatever they did to my dad short of killing him the charges would be dropped before they even had to spend the night in jail after his grandparents made a mid 6 figure donation in there county to get a multi-jurisdictional case heard there due to the fact that they could control the verdict there and they knew they were gonna make a example out of him here(they were wealthy farmers that had donated well over a million dollars keeping him out of jail over the years on top of that)
Your reaction was fine and perfectly normal for a man that respects women. I survived some abuse but finally had the sense to get out of it!!! God Bless you and look out for those daughters .... like most any parent would!
I love that she is STILL waiting in the truck.. !!! I don't care how unpolitically correct this song is.. it is what needs to happen to those pos that think it is manly or cool to beat their women, their kids, their parents.... I would absolutely do worse to someone who puts hands on my daughter.. they would have to find the rest of the body first... !!!! Wood chippers are the best inventions.. !! and Lakes are very deep. Thanks for your reaction.. I knew it would be what it was.. !!!
agreed any real man would be dealing with it exactly the way he did the courts pfft they wont do anything but give em a slap on the wrist sometimes the only way to deal with a problem is with a peice of lead from a 45

I freaking LOVE your reaction and this song. The type of masculinity we have today will vilify this but I've said it before and will keep saying GOOD men still take out the trash. He asks for mercy from the Lord cause he's not sorry to do what should have been done, by other men in her life. I'm so thankful to have grown up with good men, and boys becoming good men, who knew Strong men protect others.
WRONG! This guy did not protect her, he murdered the guy! He SHOULD have brought her to the hospital and called the cops and got a restraining order and then perhaps given HER the gun and if the guy every came back after her and violated the PO, then SHE could defend herself, but what he did was straight out murder and murder is NEVER the right answer when living in a civilization. Good men do the RIGHT THING, at the RIGHT TIME, we do not murder people!
I'm a DV survivor and this song hits very hard for us. I'm sure we all wished an angel would save us. God saved me and my son from my ex husband. I didn't tell my elderly father, or my brothers till after daddy died. I would have been waiting in the truck if I had. I couldn't ruin their lives defending me. Sheriff and lawyer told me law, as written then, didn't protect me against the sadistic sexual abuse because we were married. He threatened to disappear with our son and hurt my parents. I was terrified. Nowhere to run. Then God stepped in. Thank you for your heartfelt reaction. ❤
@@carolw24 He revealed my ex husband's affair and helped me per my prayers, figure out steps to take to get OUT! Then he heard my prayers and blessed me with meeting the very man I prayed for! We have been married 21 years now. He was a great step dad to my son and taught him what a real man should be like. Now we have 4 beautiful grandchildren and I can't wait fir my husband to retire so we can move back home and be with our family.
Every woman is somebody's daughter, and we have to stick up for each other in this world. I think he did the right. I would want him to stick up for some girl if that was my daughter. The Golden rule treat others the way you want to be treated. Treat people with respect
This is a modern-day Western and a great story! It really draws you in and you can't turn away. Amazing. Reminds me of Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven which is an actual Western that has a similar plot line of a lady who is seriously disfigured by a cowboy and protected by a bad Sheriff that get's Justice Served the Old Fashioned Way.
I'm pretty sure that was my comment you read at the beginning about the song creating an interesting dynamic among the audience (I've since created an Upvoty account), but I am absolutely fascinated to see how various reactors respond. It creates every emotion on the spectrum among those who hear it and especially those who watch the video. This is most definitely a storytelling country song at its finest. You like stories? We got stories. Great reaction!
Happy New Years! A very powerful video and well written song is Eric Church’s - Lightning. It’s makes all think about the death penalty. Hardy is the songwriter of Blake Shelton’s mega hit - God’s Country
Heck the judge and prosecutor(both unofficial family)in my county both told my family and extended family that whatever they did to my dad short of killing him the charges would be dropped before they even had to spend the night in jail after his grandparents made a mid 6 figure donation in there county to get a multi-jurisdictional case heard there due to the fact that they could control the verdict there and they knew they were gonna make a example out of him here(they were wealthy farmers that had donated well over a million dollars keeping him out of jail over the years on top of that)
if anyone ever lays hands on my daughter, they better PRAY the cops get to him before I do!! Actually found out after the fact that my daughter had been beaten to the point of spending time in the hospital, didn't know it till a couple years later, as I was not in my daughters life as much as I'd have liked to been, divorce, circumstances, etc. Once I did find out, he paid a price!!! I didn't kill him, but he spent more than 3 weeks in a hospital recovering from the beating I gave him, and the warning I gave him, he NEVER told the police who had assualted him, even though I told him exactly who I was, before I beat him down within an inch of his pathetic and miserable, drug fueled life.
My dad abused my mom and the law enforcement in that county always took his side because his grand parents were major donors to them she finally had enough and left with me while he was a work and moved back home the judge at the time here and the prosecutor both was family friends unknown to him so when he started making threats about coming here it didn’t take long for my family and might as well be family to be informed that anything they did to him in this county short of putting him in the ground would be thrown out as self defense before they even spent the night in jail (They both knew that it was gonna happen anyway if he came around so wasn’t point in telling them not to lol)
I love this song and video. Country does some amazing storytelling, and this video makes me miss the 90's era when almost every song had a video that told the story. And not just country then. Music videos use to be so cool. And aging myself, but back in the day when MTV and CMT actually played music videos, I miss that. This is one of the best music videos I have seen in years. It reminds me of Reba's video for "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" and Garth Brook's video for "Standing Outside The Fire". You get pulled into the story and like you said, in under five minutes, this song/video gives us a better story than many two-hour long movies.
I could not speak and felt like I was holding my breath the whole time trying to hold back emotion as I watched & listened to them perform this live on the CMAs a few weeks ago. Very deep & powerful song/story. Real life stuff folks unfortunately
The part everybody misses......at the end, after he had been locked up for 5 years and she visits; she goes out to the truck.......still waiting in the truck......
I discovered this song about a week ago… having been in her shoes i cried my eyes out… this song is so emotional. i hope he gets all the awards for this.. and Lainey Wilson can saaaaaang!!!
As a child I lived his life. This song hit me hard. Long story short, my mother shot him. Stood trial for 2bd degree homicide. She was acquitted. In the 60s women didn't stand chance. The Lord was on our side.
It's condoning accountability is how I chose to see it. I mean on both fronts. Ole boy that did the beating getting what he had coming and "Hardy" by just waiting for the cops.
This is the best reaction that I have seen to this song. I also have 2 girls and feel exactly the same way. Beautiful song, beautiful reaction. God Bless you brother, pray for much success in your life.
Another great Hardy sone is 'Give Heaven some Hell'. What a creative & talented guy. His stuff makes you stop & think. It reminds me of the many rock tunes from the 60's & 70's with deep meanings to society. Powerful stuff.
My 32 year old daughter said the first time she heard this she thought of me. She knows that I would take care of anyone that hurts my daughters. That makes my daughter's feel safer knowing that someone has their backs
They did a great live performance of this. Also, Hardy has some other great ones. He was a writer on God's Country that Blake Shelton released and then Hardy has one called Rednecker that's hilarious and awesome.
That is his truck that she is driving at the end. Back in the late 90s I went to work on a farm, and I lived on it. I was told that the farm manager worked there because he couldn't find a job anywhere else, because he was a felon. He had walked in on some guy raping his young daughter and had killed the guy. He went to prison, did his time, and was out now. He was an awesome guy, did a really good job running the farm, and really took care of his daughter.
I agree with you and the message he sending in this song.. I spent 18 years out of my 25-year sentence in state prison for the sob that beat my ex wife and daughter to death my daughter was only 7 years old with a whole lot life to live.. I'll don't regret or change anything that I did it was worth it like the old saying eye for eye.. I might not make it into heaven to see my daughter again but I go to hell with a smile on my face and spending eternity torturing that sob for eternity!! I'm so sorry that my message was deep and vomit but I'm just telling the sad cold reality truth!!
😢 I'm so very sorry that you had to go thru that. There are times when doing what's legal & doing what's right are completely different things. Bless you‼️🙌💯
My coworker is sitting in jail for something similar, his girls ex-husband (who she had a restraining order against) beat her and his son up after the divorce and was harassing them, he made the mistake of showing up to the house while she was out of town and we don’t know the full story yet because the investigation is ongoing but the ex-husband is in a pine box and my coworker is in jail awaiting his preliminary hearing. I can’t say if what he did would be considered justified/self defense due to the circumstances of when it happened, but I don’t feel bad for the ex-husband knowing what he has done before.
I was going to tell you to listen to this song! IMO it’s the most powerful country song playing on the radio rn! Gives me the chills every time still unbelievable.
As a former LEO I whole heartedly condone violence against men like that. I’ve seen our system fail too many women too many times to ever think differently.
My dad abused my mom and the law enforcement in that county always took his side because his grand parents were major donors to them she finally had enough and left with me while he was a work and moved back home the judge at the time here and the prosecutor both was family friends unknown to him so when he started making threats about coming here it didn’t take long for for my family and might as well be family to be informed that anything they did to him in this county short of putting him in the ground would be thrown out as self defense before they even spent the night in jail (They both knew that it was gonna happen anyway if he came around so wasn’t point in telling them not to lol)
Country music has no shortage of "kill your abuser" or "kill your cheatin' spouse" songs. Let's see...you've got "The Night the Lights went out in Georgia," "Gunpowder and Lead," "Thunder Rolls," "Papa Loved Mama," "Independence Day," and i'm sure i'm missing about a half dozen others. And they are all so good.
I have an ex who nearly killed me many times. It is only by the grace of God I did not kill him and that I am free. Only by the grace of Jesus my Lord am I writing this comment. Women are 10 times more likely to be killed leaving the abuse. Yet, there are countless women in prison for using lethal force in defence. Leave. Just get out. Take the only thing that matters....your life.
Abusers getting what’s coming to them is a theme in country music. Goodbye Earl by the Dixie Chicks, Gunpowder and Lead by Miranda Lambert, Blown Away by Carrie Underwood, Independence Day by Martina McBride, Church Bells by Carrie Underwood, all excellent songs.
I don’t have my own RU-vid channel, but I hear from other ones RU-vid doesn’t like the word “kill” they prefer the term “unalive” I love your reactions as when it comes to country music I am a fan of the old classics from late 80s, 90s, & maybe early 2000s but not so much since…. However this song is an amazing exception. Just trying to say I love the content & keep doing what you’re doing 🥰👍😉
When she says "....a judge under a seat." she's referring to a revolver known as a Judge. It's a 45/410 pistol and not for the inexperienced shooter. The 45 is known as the best man stopper, not killer but stopper caliber. It's big enough for medium size game animals. A 410 is a shotgun round and it's the smallest shotgun round but it can permanently ruin someone's day.
When I was 19, I got married to someone I barely knew. He moved me off to another state, away from my family & friends. New Year’s Eve, he beat me up inside a nice club while everyone watched. (I just wanted to go home.) Someone called the cops, he was arrested & a friend took me home. I called my sister & begged her not to tell our parents. The next day, my dad & brother showed up, (they had to drive 22 hours straight). They called the cops when they got to town to meet me so I could get my things. I had no idea what was going on. My ex dropped me off & was going to get out with me but the cops stopped him & said he better just leave because her (me) dad had a loaded gun with him! Lol! Never saw him again. I thank my sister everyday for telling my parents that night & for my dad & brother who cared enough to come & get me! I’m old now & have a wonderful man & even though my dad is 90, he’d probably get his gun out again if anyone tried to hurt me! 😂❤
I was a Correctional officer for a state prison. We had a man known as Preacher serving life without parole for murder . He was always polite and quoting the Bible, he even lead a church service on Sundays in the dorm. One day while transporting him I asked him ( not really expecting an answer) what the heck he did to get there. He looked me in the eyes and said, " My daughter was kidnapped , raped and killed by a guy she had a date with. He was released after 18 months for " good behavier". I tracked him down and sent him to our Maker". I checked out his story later, because I was used to inmates telling their side only-- he told the truth. I cant beleive this man died in prison for murder. Should have been found ' innocent by reason of temperary insanity' at least !
