I received a shipment of "dead" NineBot scooter batteries. I was able to dismantle, recharge, and reset them to working again. Here's how I did it.

@ 10:41 the little brass reset button can be pressed with a charger attached to wake up the BMS, good video

Thanks...great video...opening mine up I noticed full 41v on the end of the cells, but interrupted negative connections to the bms from the under board

Looking forward to seeing what you do with the recovered packs.

They were originally intended for a friend in a wheelchair with a scooter rig attached to help give him extended range. I've had a couple of bad ones in the batch, but most of them are staying pretty solid.

If I just want to get to the reset button on the bms board, after I take out the four screws on the end, is it necessary to take the sides off or can I just pull off the top piece that is covering the board and access the reset button?
@magic.marmot
@magic.marmot Год назад
I think you have to remove the sides, but they're not attached.

@@magic.marmot what if I make a few small incisions on the sidewall and pull it open to access the button and then tape it shut? Or would this compromise the batteries Integrity moving forward?

Awesome video! So I tested my voltage on the battery and its 41 volts, however after pressing the brass reset button, Im not getting any color light to show up at all... Any ideas?!

I had at least one pack that had a failed BMS, yours might be the same.

How can I charge the battery’s ? I need special charger ? Mines been sitting for along time and is below the threshold for charging normally is there a way to use original charger and by pass the chip that shuts it down.
@magic.marmot
@magic.marmot 4 месяца назад
You need a power supply that is constant voltage/constant current. If you can access the cells directly, you can charge the battery, bypassing the protection circuit. But be careful, if the individual cells drop below the minimum sustaining voltage, they may be damaged.

One whole side of my battery is fully charged and the other side is flat, would these method re balance the whole battery pack?
@magic.marmot
@magic.marmot 10 месяцев назад
If the cells in the pack are flat, they're probably dead and should be replaced.

Can I use a 12v charger from a laptop to charge the battery directly?
@magic.marmot
@magic.marmot 6 месяцев назад
No, you need a charger specifically designed for LiPo charging a 10s pack.

Where did you get charger?
@magic.marmot
@magic.marmot Год назад
I used a constant current/constant voltage power supply, but for these chargers, you can get them online. Just look for 36v or 40v lithium ion chargers.

The battery from my e25e is flashing blue light, but de voltage is only 3.5 volts. Also as i charge my battery de lights from the charger is flashing red and blue. Do you now what the problem is?
@magic.marmot
@magic.marmot Месяц назад
No, but if you check the manufacturers website you may be able to find that information. Flashing blue and red sounds like an error condition, but I have no idea what it means. If the whole pack is reading 3.5 volts and that's not per-cell, it sounds like the pack is dead.
@jafeth1195
@jafeth1195 Месяц назад
@@magic.marmot the pack is not dead because in the inside of the battery is reading 39.9 volts and the 2 conectors that go into de controller of the scooter read 3,5 volts, do you now what I can do? Do you now what the problem is?
@magic.marmot
@magic.marmot Месяц назад
@@jafeth1195 My suspicion is that the BMS has an issue. It may need to be awakened, but I know nothing about the pack and can't really help.

i bought a faulty scooter which had not been charged for some unknown time and the battery will not charge....the battery pack is the same type as in this video...can i just connect my bench power supply at 42V to the thick red/black power connector without having to take the plastic casing apart ??? pls could you advise.
@magic.marmot
@magic.marmot Год назад
Not really. If the voltage of the cells drops too low, the BMS inside shuts off. You'll probably need to connect directly to the pack to see if it can be recovered. Taking the cover off is easy though.
@magic.marmot
@magic.marmot Год назад
Also, there's a small button on the BMS board on top that you press to reset it once the pack voltage itself is above 33v. Use a constant current constant voltage to charge the pack.

@@magic.marmot many thanks Rob for your reply and i will try what you said...some time ago i was given a bulk amount of the 18650 batteries some of them were badly low voltage but i charged them with my bench power supply and got most of them working.

I removed the battery pack from the scooter and measured 15V on the two pin black connector...so i connected my bench power supply to this two pin black connector and charged at 42V for some hours until the battery circuit stopped the charging....the blue light came on but i could measure no more than about 21V on this black connector so i put the battery back into the scooter and the scooter powered up but when i tried the brake a message came onto the app screen that the battery was overcharged and to be careful so we took the scooter to the park and rode the scooter for some time until the battery level went down to about 60% the i plugged the charger into the scooter socket but i got no indication of charging,,,so im confused....could you pls advise ????

I did everything in the tutorial and I've gotten my battery up to 41 volts but he still won't turn blue and it still won't register I don't know what's going on also at the plug it's only register in about 20 something Volts.but 41 volts at the terminals on the pack
@magic.marmot
@magic.marmot Год назад
Take the plastic shell off of the pack. On the top there is a pushbutton that you need to press to "wake-up" the BMS. Jehu already has a good video on how to do it, but remember that these are surplus packs and some are defective.
@weedhopperarmes6372

@@magic.marmot I've tried that still just blinks red a few times then stops. Also when I test the main battery input connector ( the two pronged one with the red and black wires) I get only like 20v or so but if I put the positive probe in the connector and the negative probe directly on the negative side of the pack I get the full 41v.

that is exactly what I was thinking. Why go through the trouble to jump the battery, when it can be easily pressing the "reset" button, since he went through the trouble of actually open up the casing. In other videos, instead of removing the entire casing, they used a soldier gun to create a tiny opening in order to access the "reset" button switch.

I have the Blue light on, but original charger stays green not charging 😶
@magic.marmot
@magic.marmot 6 месяцев назад
I used a CC/CV power supply to charge through the power connections, not the charging plug. The charge port on the battery has additional circuitry that may be bad, especially in surplus batteries.

This is a link where you can find out how to reset (awaken) the internal battery (nine bot E22E) without opening the battery : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-toRyGWnEL8Y.html from Chris Luellen. I did do the procedure (with the 12 volt) and my battery is flashing with a blue led and after a few houres loading (no red led on the charger) or letting the charger connected, it did show 38,5 volt. At the start it was 19.5 volt and no blue led. I did not see the red led. I will assemble the Nine bot E22E and see what happens... 🙂 Is this the same as if i should open the battery and push the reset-button on the BMS please? What a nice video Rob Withoff....congrats !
