There were a lot of requests for this video so I decided to go ahead and make it. I hope that my story of recovery will help other people who are having difficulties with their experience and help other people understand the process after psychosis a little better. Thank you for watching!

Thanks for watching guys! I just wanted to clear up a few points of confusion. The recovery process I speak of here happened after my break in 2012, so it has been a while since this has happened. I've had a couple people ask why I seem so numb or unemotional when I talk about this. It is possible that these experiences were so hard that I didn't really want to dip into that space again, to feel those emotions. I am sorry if it doesn't feel authentic. My goal was that in sharing that other people could relate or understand the process a little better. Hopefully, by sharing what happened objectively it can be helpful for some people. Maybe I will share the emotional aspect in another way down the line. Today I don't have any problem with psychosis or delusional thoughts and live a relatively normal life. Thanks for your support and let me know if you have any other questions.

How's your son doing? I've personally experienced this separately not once but twice. During these two episodes I was hospitalized 4 different times and put on lots of medication. Thankfully now I've been sober and off medication. I have recovered back to reality and back to my normal self. I never had any other previous mental health issues at all. During my second and last episode I was diagnosed with bi polar, I don't believe I have this disease and believe I had a intense drug induced psychosis. Mind you I was smoking and only using marijuana very heavily. Smoking it daily multiple times, basically being high all day long, waking up and continuing to destroy my mental health. It was very scary and sad for my family and friends to experience this, I have always been a smart alert kid. The drugs that got me better included (Abilify, Depakote, and cogentin) I started off on very high doses and gradually tapered off them as I got more into reality. It was scary never thought I would get my mind back. Most doctors didn't think so either. However let me tell you there is hope and I am 100% recovered! It does not happen over night. Good luck to you and your son and anyone else out there experiencing this devastation.

Thank you for sharing Shell. As a parent it can be really painful to see your child go through something like this. To this day it is still hard for my mom to talk about and deal with. I am glad that my videos give you some hope for your son's future. He is lucky to have a parent that cares so much and is looking for resources to understand it better. Just know that the recovery process does take time and some people do make full recoveries from the experience. It is not going to be easy as you probably know already, but there is hope. Hang in there! Feel free to ask me any questions, I'd be glad to help in any way :).

I wouldn't say you come across as inauthentic. You appear to be trying to remember something very traumatic while trying to remain objective and honest. Thank you so much for sharing. I had the same experience at the start of university and sadly lacked a healthy support system and family to find healing. I turned back to drugs because it was all I knew and I thought somehow that they might fix me. Stupid I know. A handful of episodes later I'm finally strong enough to start completely healing myself. I feel very behind at 24 but like you've said it's so hard to explain it to people and I've really struggled finding my place in the world again. All the best in your recovery and thanks for the videos.

Thank you for this video. I know its two years old but I'm just finding it and its giving me some hope. I wasn't sure if I'd ever get better and didn't know what was going on really or why I was like this now until my partner helped me find the resources to figure out that this was what it is. I used to be so proud of my ability to reason and come up with novel ideas and solutions - I have a philosophy degree, and maintained a 3.97gpa most of my academic career. And now I can barely communicate at all, and my ability to tell which of my premises are true and which ones are complete nonsense is nigh impossible for me so using reason is like.. constantly unreliable right now. It feels like I've lost a fundamental quality I loved about myself. Your story gives me hope that maybe one day I'll get it back.

Thank you for sharing. It is a really common experience to be frustrated and sad when we are not able to perform to the level that we could before psychosis. There is a degree of acceptance and adaptation that is required and it takes humility and courage. It is not easy by any means and like I said is something that I have seen a lot of people struggle with after psychosis. If you would like some support with this feel free to let me know, I would be happy to help in any way I can. I can also suggest some other videos I have made that might be helpful for what you are experiencing.

I am with you here. You explained things very closely to what I am going through. Especially feeling the energy of others.. during covid this has been a nightmare. The collective trauma from the shut down far exceeds the death veil. Thank you for coming out and discussing this. I found for me, many of the songs, etc., I was experiencing during my psychosis, still made total sense once I came out. My partner has been wonderful but the long and disturbing medical kidnapping and healing from trauma causing extreme anxiety once I got home, has been very rough. This has been a weird road and I respect you highly for talking about it.

Ive been sharing my experience with my coworkers/friends and also reddit. Ive been watching a lot of your videos that relate to psychosis and Ive got a lot of parallels like going back to my family when in psychosis, going to a psychiatry hospital to get better, while in the hospital I freaked out and thought I needed to leave because the ward I was in was hell but ended up being injected with some drug and put in solitary, and also I had a dream with a blue monkey after I got out of the hospital and played tag with him (I even wrote about the dream in my journal - I had that dream on 3/31/18) The recover process was hard. At first I enjoyed psychosis and wanted it more. I had the one major episode 2 years ago, then a bunch of smaller ones (yet still very much psychosis). I remember one larger minor episode where I thought I had to give a whistle to a girl for her birthday while their family held a party for her at the park. I also remember walking around the mall giving out Elder Futhark runes to people thinking its like an initiation into this great state of being. The last time, I remember not sleeping for a few days and then going to the pool and thought I was in some spiritual realm. I dont know if I halucinated or if it was real, but I went into the steam room and some dude touched my tattoo and said "nice esoteric tattoo", and I also thought that the world was controlled by hyper-intelligent beings who were keeping special states of beings away from us because they felt too good. Basically, I felt addicted to the psychotic state. My last minor psychotic experience was a year ago. Since then I decided to stop having psychosis. I started journaling more, exercising a few hours a week, broke up with my partner who I felt I had to carry their weight. This all led me to discovering things like Internal Family Systems, Epistimology, and Non-Violent Communication. All of which are tools I still use both while journalling and just talking with myself. I think Epistimology is a great way for me to ground myself. Epistimology being understanding how reliable a claim is and asking about the reliability of a claim. So just asking myself "how did I determine this was true" or "why do I think this"?

I feel like the old me died. I still feel sensitive to sounds and lights, the sun light is fking crazy looking. Lol. But I dont really feel anxiety anymore, or fear, my eyes are settled in such a way, its noticeable to me. Before the psychosis feels like another life, another me. Overall I'm thankful, for now anyways. Hopefully this holds, and I just need to never touch drugs again, of which I also have had no desire to touch since the episode faded, for the most part, I'll still hear certain sounds, like a bell, or high frequency pitches.. that'll remind me of the psychotic. I can remember the moment I felt like I died, the pressure was rising in my mind, and wouldn't stop, I knelt down in my room, and it got to a point to where I fell down flat, and my entire head felt fuzzy, my eyes settled low, and all the sounds and visuals started fading.. thats where I'm at now inside. Like im a new person. Though I'm aware I could fall right back in with enough stress put upon me, so I respect it, and do my best not to fear, or let negative feelings build in my mind. You have to face your fears to stop the sounds and visuals anyways, you're literally fighting whatever scary or frightening tricks your mind can come up with, and once you do, your minds dark side knows its lost the battle, it can't defeat your will, you're the master, and your shadow know it as well. I just tell myself, "throw it to your side, stride past it, and keep moving" Its quite liberating, tbh.

hello! first of all i really want to thank you for sharing this, it really comforts me that others understand what i feel. i started smoking heavily at age 14, and had a break at 15. it’s a year later, i never went to the hospital, i had no idea what was happening. since, i’ve had another in front of a loved one a couple months ago, again, didn’t know what was going on. months later i still have some thoughts, although it’s not nearly as intense as it was the first time round. i had to go back to school still in this state, and it was really really hard. i had panic attacks in class sometimes, i simply did not understand why things felt this way all of a sudden. i’m wanting to talk to others who have gone through this, i have a question. should i seek medical help now? i’m worried i’m too young to have help. again, it’s not as intense but something is still definitely there. i try to ignore is and distract as much as i can, and it’s gotten a lot better, but i think i want it treated all the way. is anyone experienced with teenagers and this type of thing? i’m so confused where to exactly turn to. thank you

Thank you for your comment and sharing your story. I understand it can be hard to know what to do in the situations. It is really good that you realize you may need help that is a huge step. As far as getting help, you might be able to talk to a school counselor for free and see what to do from there. Most schools have a counselor on staff that you can talk to and they may be able to get you to the appropriate care based on the severity of what you are dealing with. If there is not a school counselor maybe consider calling your doctor and see what they would recommend. Basically you need to get into a medical or mental health professional that can assess you and direct you to the right kind of treatment. Also I was 18 during my first psychosis, so you are not too young for treatment. Hope that helps!

Try to focus on the things you can control in your life. I know there are a lot of variables with medication, psychosis, etc. Just try to take a step in a direction that will help your wellness and remember to breathe! Life is just one step at a time. It's impossible to know what the future will hold, but what you do have control over is what you do now. The unknown is scary, but try not to let your mind take you on a roller coaster ride. Just breathe and focus on now. As far as medication goes that is something you have to decide for yourself and with your doctors.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I wanted to ask a question that's been confusing me for a while... do you believe you can do drugs and not be addicted? & more importantly, do you believe it is possible to have a "HEALTHY" relationship with any drug/psychedelics etc... I'm very curious to know opinions on this especially from those that have experience with it.
@justbeinghayden9451
@justbeinghayden9451 3 года назад
Yeah you can definitely have healthy relationships with mind altering substances. Humans have used drugs for a long time for a lot of reasons. Some drugs are more addictive and destructive than others, while others are used more as tools and not commonly abused. Things like opioids, amphetamines, alcohol, and other hard drugs usually create more problems than solve. Things like cannabis, hemp, and psychedelic generally have more potential as tools or medicine. And by drugs I'm pretty sure you mean mind altering substances, because plants have a ton of chemicals that help heal or alleviate certain conditions. But yeah it's possible to have healthy relationship with substances. But healthy looks different for each person. It's depends on whether some is using it as a crutch or as a tool and if the substance they use has a negative impact on their lives. Mushrooms you literally can't abuse because your body builds tolerance to it for about 2 weeks after consuming. But yeah there are plenty of people that use substances to help them lives lives more fully or help them cope with stuff. I personally use hemp flower frequently and it adds a lot to my life in a lot of ways. Just depends on the person.

I’m scouring the Internet for hope. My 23-year-old son is in a behavioral center after mixing DMT with mushrooms and weed. He totaled his car, Completely sharpe-ing his brothers apartment and talking nonsense about numbers and names😥. Is there hope for him, will I get my very loving, responsible son back? This video gives me some hope. Thank you!

Thanks, I had a weed/ adderal induced psychosis 3 yrs ago, doing better now mostly, except I am more withdrawn and dont feel like being social much, have you been able to improve these symptoms & how?
@justbeinghayden9451
@justbeinghayden9451 4 года назад
A lot of it for me was accepting were I am and decided what I want to do from there. It sounds like you want to be social, but sometimes is holding you back. For me, becoming social again took effort and time. I had to consciously engage myself with others even though sometimes I was scared or wasn't feeling up to it. I am still more of a loner than I used to be, but I have friends and relationships. It might be worth having a little more extra help from a therapist or coach who can coach you through it and if you are on medication that can be a side effect, so talk to your doctor about that one. Best of luck to you!

Can you please do a video on seeing synchronicities, people on the bus wearing clothes i wear, i ride bmx and ill see people riding lime green walmart bmx bikes and it makes me feel like people are watching me and mocking me. How do you cope with this type of paranoia
@justbeinghayden9451
@justbeinghayden9451 4 года назад
Yeah synchronicity is something that shows up during psychosis. The way I dealt with it was basically asking myself whether the beliefs I had were based on any reality or not. I basically had to talk myself out of the belief system that I found myself in. It took me a while, but over time I stopped thinking everything was a sign. Maybe I will make a video about it, I will have to think about it for a little while. Thank you for sharing, sorry to hear you are struggling with this. Hopefully what I shared is somewhat helpful for you.

Is ayahuasca something you would consider doing after recovering from your psychosis? I’ve also had two psychotic breaks.. and since I’ve had two separate shamans suggest I do it (even after I disclosed my history with psychosis) but I am frightened that it would send me into another episode.. what are your thoughts?
@justbeinghayden9451
@justbeinghayden9451 3 года назад
It is very risky. I have had an opportunity to do a ayahuasca ceremony but turned it down. Remember that you are in charge of your mental health. Just because someone calls themselves a shaman doesn't mean they know what is best for you. That being said you can can make the choice, just know the risk and decide for yourself. Also ask yourself why do you want to have an ayahuasca ceremony. Humans have a tendency to look outside of ourselves to heal. Just know that there are ways to heal without ayahuasca.

I do not know if she will recover and I do not know how she will view you after things have passed over. You just have to let it run its course and make sure she is getting the care she needs. If she is still not acting rationally and not being like herself, you may want to bring to her to a psych unit to get her evaluated. Usually psych evaluations are free. Wishing you the best.

So i smoked weed while I took LSD and I think that’s what triggered my first psychosis and ended up in a psychiatric ward, when I got out they gave me respridal and I smoked while I was taking it and it triggered a second episode ( even though the medicine wasn’t really working that well to begin with ) the second time I got out of the hospital they gave me Abilify and now I’ve been off of it for 4 days and I feel like my normal self, do you think it would be safe if I wait a while to smoke weed or should I just leave weed alone, it’s just really hard because before I took LSD weed never gave me these symptoms, it calmed me down and I could smoke it around friends and everything, I feel like the medicine is why I reverted back to the way I was so idk what it would do if I smoked it while I’m in this normal state.

Thanks for sharing. Honestly its not for me to tell you what to do or what not to do, but cannabis does have a risk to induce psychosis. My first psychosis was triggered by DMT and cannabis and my second psychosis was triggered by cannabis and an intense experience. I personally do not use cannabis anymore because I think its too risky for me, but you have to decide if you want to take that risk or not. Best wished to you, sorry you had to go through that, I hope it doesn't happen again. Thanks again for sharing.

@@luciekrejcova1545 It did not feel that much different at first, but what I realize now is that it did stabilize me a little bit and prevented me from getting too depressed or too manic. I think I was in a hurry to get off the medication because I didn't want to feel like I was dependent on a psychiatric drug. Yes, it was about 3 years without meds, but then I started smoking pot again because I was feeling depressed and wanted something that would help with that. Which ultimately contributed to my second psychosis. I am currently on medication now, I will be making videos about all of this stuff in the future, but I realized I forgot to respond to you so I wanted to give you an answer. I hope that helps. How did you deal with the mood swings/ do you still have them?
@justbeinghayden9451
@justbeinghayden9451 3 года назад
Self awareness is the best tool for mood swings. Knowing that you are in a mood allows you to take some distance from the experience and chose to do something about it or at least give yourself compassion and understanding of why you are behaving in a certain way. Then you can do something that will help change your mood like exercise, a hobby, talking with someone, or whatever helps you. I don't really have noticeable mood swings anymore, I'm pretty steady for the most part. But after psychosis I had a lot of mood swings.

Are you emotionally different by now? You seem kind of numb to me How were you like before the psychosis? I also had a short psychosis for some time after ive smoked weed I recovered after like 1 year and i understand a lot of what you are saying What helped me through it all was to accept reality the way it is It was not easy to do for me, itbfelt very uncomfortable with it but it gets a lot better if you truely accept reality, your existence and yourself Well im quite sure you already know this but maybe you dont or someone reading the comments doesnt so ill just write it down here

I am definitely different now. This kind of experience definitely changes the way I look at the world. Emotionally I guess I am more conscious of what emotions I am having and how to work with them, but I know some parts of me are numb for sure. Before the break I just suppressed them and they just kept building up, which is definitely one of the contributing factors to me having the break in the first place. As you said, I had to do a lot of accepting what reality was which was hard. Thanks for sharing, I appreciate it. 🙂
